Dsd ill and I’m panicking

Had a terrible headache all night, went away with paracetamol but still lingered, it’s back now. She has a temp, aching all over but what’s worried me is this headache and her neck is aching too. She can kiss her knee and put her chin to her chest, how comfortably I don’t really know as she’s got adhd so hard getting proper answers out of her. She said when she put her chin to her chest it hurt all down her back in a line, I’m worrying about meningitis! Would she still be able to text me by now if she had it ? Started feeling ill about 8pm last night

Ring 111 but expect to be told to go to A&E. Not worth the risk.

Aknifewith16blades · 17/04/2026 20:56

How old is she OP? It sounds like she might be at uni.

Calling 111 is likely the best idea.

OttersOnAPlane · 17/04/2026 20:57

It's never worth taking risks with meningitis.

She’s at her Nan’s house, we don’t live near, she don’t get on with her mum hence being at her Nan’s

Nan needs to ring 111 for medical advice

SilverBlue56 · 17/04/2026 21:02

The adult in the house needs to call 111 or take her to hospital

Zapx · 17/04/2026 21:04

111 will almost certainly send to hospital with those symptoms. She needs seeing ASAP

tummytucklipo · 17/04/2026 21:08

This is what I’m saying to her but she’s worried about going, god knows why her nan or grandad haven’t done it or at least called her mum

OP posts:
AnnaQuayRules · 17/04/2026 21:10

Please talk to her Nan (her mum's mum?) and tell her she needs to take her to A&E

Whereabouts are they living, have you rung them and told them to get medical help, is her dad around.

tummytucklipo · 17/04/2026 21:15

She’s just told me she hasn’t spoke to her mum and nan doesn’t know about the head and neck ache, I’ve just told her meningitis kills and she needs to tell them so hopefully now she’ll get taken to hospital

OP posts:
tummytucklipo · 17/04/2026 21:16

Would light be bothering her by now ?

Meteorite87 · 17/04/2026 21:19

Yes @tummytucklipo light sensitivity is an early symptom.

Call her back, video facetime, speak to grandparents snd tell them she needs to go to hospital and they need to tell her parents iif she agrees, are grandparents her legal guardians, where is her dad.

Shufflebumnessie · 17/04/2026 21:29

Does her temperature come down with paracetamol?
Is she eating/drinking?
Is she able to move around, or is she too ill to get out of bed?
Are her hands and feet cold?

This is what the NHS advises
https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/meningitis/symptoms/

DS had Meningitis when he was younger so I fully appreciate your concerns. Could you ring 111, explain the situation and ask them to ring DSD grandparents directly (I'm not sure if that's something they'd do but you could check). If there are serious concerns that it might be Meningitis then she really needs to be seen by a medical professional, and sooner rather than later as it's an illness that can move with devastating speed.
I really hope it's nothing more than nasty virus and that she's feeling much better very soon.

Would light be bothering her by now ?

It's irrelevant, with her symptoms she needs to be seen

tummytucklipo · 17/04/2026 21:40

She’s told her mum now who has said it’ll probably just be Covid or the flu
