Recommend me a top tier four slice toaster

HotSpotNot · 17/04/2026 18:48

Our toaster just died.

I'm sick of buying crap toasters.

I wanted a decent four slice toaster that is a pleasure to use, and will fit all sorts of sizes and thicknesses of bread.

I feel like I want it to have two separate levers so if toast on one side is halfway through, you can start a new piece on the other side.

I feel I deserve this. It's finally time to live like I'm a success!

Dualit

Nikkynakkynoo · 17/04/2026 18:50

https://www.procook.co.uk/product/stainless-steel-long-slot-toaster-4-slice This. Worth joining their mailing list as there's often discounts.

Edit: I actually meant this one! https://www.procook.co.uk/product/procook-gun-metal-toaster-4-slice You can set different cook time for each side, which is great as my kids are heathens who like their "toast" like it's been barely kissed by a light summer breeze

Dualit. Mine is over 30 years old and is brilliant.

CalicoCaterina · 17/04/2026 18:55

This brand is made like dualit used to be made, when my 25 month old dualit needed two new elements and a timer I decided it wasn’t worth the repair costs and bought the brand I’ve linked to. Mine isn’t for sale there at the minute that I can see. I bought a Rowlett Esprit 4 Slot in stainless steel, it came with sandwich cages and spare elements.

Dalmationday · 17/04/2026 18:56

Dualit. We have it and love it

Thank you for the suggestions, I think the pro cook four slice is my favourite so far!

Dualit would have repaired your toaster for you.

We have the dualit 4 slice architect and are really pleased with it. We like that you can lift the toast up to check on it!

Badoingy · 17/04/2026 22:57

We have a dualit (2 slice) and it toasts one slice more than the other! We were expecting it to be great so it's really annoying!

Miranda65 · 17/04/2026 23:00

Dualit. They last forever. I would never consider any other brand of toaster.

DeadBug · 17/04/2026 23:00

I have Dualit also. It looks lovely but my favourite thing is the bagel button. Toasted on one side and just warmed on the other. Perfection. 😊

Malvasylvestris · 17/04/2026 23:17

Sage do some good ones, We've had ours for ages

NeverDropYourMooncup · 17/04/2026 23:22

I hate Dualits with a passion. We were given a catering one and it was shit when we got it and shit when we replaced the elements, thinking that might make it produce toast instead of bread vaguely singed in a couple of places.

Got a Rangemaster after trying a bunch of other cheap-mid range brands, all of which were also crap, just nowhere near as crap as the Dualit was. That thing is built like it's actually meant to last.

Thanks! How long have you had it? I really like the look of the Architect, but heard some of them don't last that long? And they arn't as repairable like classic dualits.

Dualit would have repaired your toaster for you.

Yes, for more than £100.

I had a dualit architect first, the plastic melted around the toasting slots just out of warranty. I then bought a proper dualit thinking it was repairable. Not long out of warranty and it needed two new elements and a timer.

The elements are £20 each, the timer £25, plus postage and repair costs.

I decided to cut my losses. The Rowlett toaster comes with two spare elements, after they are £9. Handmade in England, 3 year warranty, feels like a tank.

Magnoliasunrise · 18/04/2026 07:26

Dualit. Had ours for over 20 years and still going strong.

CopeNorth · 18/04/2026 08:24

ours just went too and we got this https://ao.com/product/bta730uk-sage-the-bit-more-4-slice-toaster-stainless-steel-34872-79.aspx?ef_id=EAIaIQobChMI8eK12uz2kwMVZpNQBh0LrCiEEAQYASABEgItCfD_BwE%3AG%3As&s_kwcid=AL%218149%213%21%21%21%21x%21%21&gclsrc=aw.ds&utm_medium=cpc&utm_source=google&utm_campaign=shopping+-+sda+-+kettles+toasters+and+irons+-+performance+max%7Cshopping+-+sda+-+kettles+toasters+and+irons+-+performance+max&utm_term=shopping%7CBTA730UK_SS&utm_content=%7Cpaidpla&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=19855484549&gbraid=0AAAAADmq13-pBwIovLeWqYU-a_6QJor2F&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI8eK12uz2kwMVZpNQBh0LrCiEEAQYASABEgItCfD_BwE&mm_rf=mm_23e2dd55894ceb3dd74e

it was a toss up between this and the ProCook. The Dualit long slot was out of stock and I also didn’t love the look of the plastic on it (plus some reviews said it melted).

it was hard to find a long slot 4 slice. We have the safe coffee machine which is great so thought we’d try the toaster

HellenicOfTroy · 18/04/2026 08:28

Our Dualit Architect gave up the ghost after about 7yrs (and quite a lot of burning tbh). Getting it repaired by Dualit was expensive and although my husband would have done it himself, he came to the conclusion that the elements you can buy online were for the other (individual handle, more expensive) Dualit. So we cut our losses and bought a Russell Hobbs one - it's good at toasting but the slots are weirdly shallow.

thebeautifulsky · 18/04/2026 08:37

We've had two Dualit Architect toasters. They toast well and the bagel function is great, but for us, they didn't last long (two years) and the elements on one side failed and tripped out the electric. Happened both times.

We've now got a Smeg and so far so good!

cinquanta · 18/04/2026 08:45

I think most of the recommendations for Dualits are for the classic Dualit toasters. The sort with the clockwork timer and the manual lift lever.

We have one that is 25 years old and used daily. I prefer it to other toasters I have used.

CalicoCaterina · 18/04/2026 08:47

I do feel like the ‘repairable’ factor is a bit of a red herring for most given that they recommend it is repaired by a qualified person and PAT tested afterwards.

My first dualit was a different story, XH took it when we divorced and I thought goody, a shiny new toaster, but they don’t seem to have the longevity anymore. I don’t think my parents have ever replaced an element in their ancient dualit. Something has changed.

CalicoCaterina · 18/04/2026 08:49

My new classic failed after 25 months @cinquanta , more than £100 to get it repaired, 2 slice. I didn’t bother, it’s in a cupboard somewhere.

Ours needed a new element. DH repaired it.
