It didn’t just attack her though - she took an overdose (suicide attempt) and it’s suspected that the dog was trying to wake her up, not trying to kill her.

A very different situation from when a dog randomly attacks its owner or a neighbour/family member.

We all know the best way to wake someone from sleep is to eat their actual fucking face.

The dog delusion continues to worsen.

Humans do not wake each ither like that you are right. Dogs arent humans though (we are told that enough times on these threads I am surprised I find myself pointing it out)

It’s more like:

  1. Dog detects something is wrong (owner is unresponsive)
  2. Tries normal behaviours (licking, nudging, pawing)
  3. Gets increasingly stressed/confused
  4. Transitions into mouth-based behaviour (dogs use their mouths for everything - and will gently bite faces of each other sometimes if one of their pack doesnt wake up. The point is it's gentle mouthing at this point rather than an actual bite down)

From there, with an owner still unresponsive and the dog growing increasingly distressed the attempts become even more frantic >> skin gets broken and the taste/smell of blood intensifies behaviour and starts a loop.

The dog didn't think "oh yay she's out for the count! I finally get to rip her face off like I have wanted to for years and years!"

ETA - the dog will know and be able to smell that something is seriously wrong rather than just deep sleep. They can smell and detect even the tiniest changes inside your body that even the best technology cannot.

Yes. I was trying to avoid giving too explicit a description - which you managed pretty well - but also I hadn’t thought it was necessary to explain in detail.
Obviously dogs have dog reactions, not human ones.
It’s why I would never leave a dog alone with a small child: it’s well-known that a child’s jerky movements and other behaviour can sometimes trigger an otherwise gentle dog and there’s no point in blaming the dog for that. Because it’s a dog. 😏

And if I end up in social housing, I have to risk my life by being exposed to all these dogs?

How would you be risking your life? You're vastly more likely to get run over.

Knife crime on the rise - ban knives.

Violence on the rise - ban television, video games, social media, social interaction.

Motor vehicle deaths on the rise - ban cars.

What is the point of this post?

Only weirdos would want to ban all dogs because they read the news.

The phrase, "touch grass," comes to mind.

The point is that these attacks are becoming more common.Where did I say that I thought all dogs should be banned?
All dog owners should be responsible for training their dogs ,not leaving them unattended near children and open spaces.

They're not more common, though, they're just more reported on to draw the eye of people who have a phobia or certain leaning.

Scaremongering and bias confirmation makes for great ad revenue for the media.

It reminds me of those 1950s magazines, "ALIENS INVADING EARTH - IMPOSSIBLE TO STOP - BAKED BEANS THE ONLY WAY TO AVOID STARVATION"

I didn't say you said dogs should be banned.

I asked you what the point of this post.

Deaths as a result of being attacked by dogs are most certainly on the rise. Im not saying there are necessary more attacked in general but, fatal attacks are becoming more common.

We can agree to disagree. Some sources say more common, some say not so. Pick your poison.

Another ridiculous Mumsnet anti dog thread. Dogs are not aggressive creatures by nature and the vast majority are incredibly tolerant beings.
It’s the idiots who mistreat and poorly train them that are the problem. Dogs rarely just attack there are always warning signs and it’s our job to understand them and act accordingly.

Banning dogs is ridiculous.

Dogs are a predator species. Canine teeth are literally named after them. Most dogs are socialised from an early age and have been bred from docile parents, but there will always be a small minority which are inherently aggressive nonetheless. Of those few, some of them will be large and strong enough to be a dangerous threat.

You absolutely cannot deny that some dogs are easily capable of killing a human.

By the way, your calling a thread 'ridiculous' when it concerns the untimely and violent deaths of several people? Not nice.

Hear! Hear!

Too many people have a dog and then expect other people to run their lives around their dog.

Now i love dogs but i don't love ones that i cannot control if they go into attack mode.

Its these larger, more aggressive breeds that need limiting, though banning breeds doesn't seem to work, a very large licencing fee together with training and insurance would be better way forward.

Your post is why there are so many dog attacks, inc a great many fatal ones.

Dogs can be unpredictable and have genetic make ups that, in certain breeds, makes them not afraid of humans at all and when they do attack, they don't stop and they are unstoppable.

I remember seeing a video of a Rottweiller attacking a person, someone hit the dog over the head with an iron bar, it made no difference, it kept going.

More recently, UK police fired 9 rounds into an XL Bully before it stopped.

Training isn't compulsory and the law allows idiots to have large aggressive and uncontrollable dogs.

This is what needs to change, the Dangerous Dogs Act needs urgent reform.

MabelRoyds · 17/04/2026 15:09

Do we ban humans that kill humans? No, we usually say, ooh dear, were they a bit stressed? Maybe they need help.

why would we ban a poorly trained animal?! Give it some nice food and a stroke.

Animal Rights.
