Radio breakfast show

Hi all, I’ve really tried to like Gary Davies on radio 2 since he took over from Scott Mills, but I just don’t. It’s so so boring and old fashioned feeling. Please can anyone recommend a radio breakfast show to listen to on my way to work? I can be in the car for up to an hour so really want something light and funny. Did listen to Chris Evan’s on virgin before Scott Mills, but all his health and running chat got annoying. I like a mixture of chat and pop music. Need to give something else a go, Can’t carry on with radio 2. Thanks everyone.

I enjoy absolute radio breakfast show with Dave berry. You can also choose to listen to it on the multiple stations so 80s music, 90s, rock, pop etc.

MelanzaneParmigiana · 13/04/2026 20:04

Jeremy Kyle on Talk Radio

I like Nick Grimshaw on 6 Music.

I listen to Nation Radio South while Gary is on Radio 2 as I'm not keen on him either The presenter on NRS is Steve power he is so funny decent music

MissyB1 · 13/04/2026 20:13

Crikey I’m the opposite, I can finally listen to radio 2 breakfast show now Scott Mills has gone!
But I know lots of people who enjoy the Absolute one.

SurreyWifi · 13/04/2026 20:13

Chris Moyles on Radio X, from 6.30-10.00. I genuinely chuckle every day. A good mix of interviews, chat and music.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 13/04/2026 20:30

Greatest Hits - Simon Ross

I’m with you on Ooh Gary Davies. Never could see what the appeal is.

Nick Grimshaw on 6Music is good and Absolute Radio is ok too.

DanceMumTaxi · 13/04/2026 21:04

Thanks all. I think the music on 6music might be a bit too alternative for me. @SurreyWifi I listened to Chris Moyles for years when he was on radio 1, but stopped listening when he stopped doing the breakfast show. Used to love him, comedy Dave and Dom. I like it when it’s a group and the producer etc gets involved. Get a bit bored of just one voice. Going to try a few out over the next week or so.

Im the complete opposite. I used to think Chris Evans was ok but I just couldn’t stand his sycophantic clique.

Rossie on greatest hits. I listen every morning.

Also normally listen to Chris in the mornings. He still gets the producers involved and Dom still does the news and is now basically the main sidekick.

I like Greg James on R1... but it's awful when he's not there

Happytaytos · 14/04/2026 19:59

Greatest hits or absolute.

Heart is awful!!

DanceMumTaxi · 14/04/2026 20:48

I tried Chris Moyles this morning but he just annoyed me going on about Leeds Utd and I felt like I listened to more adverts than anything else. The music was too guitar based too for that time in the morning, I did like the songs, just not on the way to work. But disappointed, I had high hopes. Might give Greg James a try tomorrow, but I feel like I’m too old for radio 1 now. Maybe I can re-live my youth.

Another Heart fan with Jamie and Amanda, so bright and warm every morning with a raucous belly laugh.
Wake up and win is my daily highlight and i bought the game too!

SirChenjins · 14/04/2026 20:58

I much prefer Gary Davies to the yawnfest that was Scott Mills, but I also listen to Greatest Hits (really like the 'when I was 17' segment at 7.07am), and STV Radio - although I imagine that's local to this part of Scotland.

ShowOfHands · 14/04/2026 21:01

I can't bear Gary either and wish they'd sort out a replacement. He's an old fashioned Smashy and Nicey style DJ and sounds like he's smirking all the time.

I've taken to listen to podcasts on the way to work instead. Currently listening to Dish.

dishwashing · 14/04/2026 21:10

I listen to Heart 70s with Carlos. Have enjoyed him for many years. Sadly the music can be a bit repetitive but I don’t listen every day and I only have it on for an hour or so in the car anyway so it’s not too bad. At home I choose my own playlists.

DanceMumTaxi · 14/04/2026 21:11

@ShowOfHands yes! Smash and Nicey is absolutely spot on! Hit the nail on the head there. I know people like him, but I just can’t bear him, it’s really ruining my commute.

another 6 music listener here. In the mornings with Nick Grimshaw they do have a bit more mainstream stuff too, in the cloud busting section, which lasts an hour…

FairViewRosie25 · 14/04/2026 21:20

Gary Davies is fine, no stupid quiz or the silly birthday “not” game. Interested in seeing who the new permanent presenter will be. Greg James??

LindorDoubleChoc · 14/04/2026 21:32

My well documented out-and-out phobia of Gary Davies has had me pretty much permanently tuned away from Radio 2 for weeks - I just can't risk hearing him! I've rediscovered Radio 4 lately but also quite like R5 before 9am.

Travellingraspberry · 14/04/2026 21:34

Another vote for Greg James on radio 1. I'm well outside their target audience I'm sure but think he's great, good mix of fun and silliness but can be serious when needed
