My vote on May 7th will be a Senedd one so it’s a bit scary right now. In my constituency the right voting pattern would keep Reform from getting the 6th seat -they aren’t likely to get more than that here. But it’s impossible to tell who is really the best vote to avoid that - everyone says it’s them and the polling isn’t really addressing d’Hondt so I’ll vote Plaid and cross everything.

PickAChew · 23/04/2026 15:07

No elections for me, either. Ours were last year and look where that landed us.

Despite the overall council make up, LD candidates won by a landslide in my ward so no need to hold my nose there. A GE would be harder to predict in the current climate. We'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

BIWI · 23/04/2026 15:08

Our council is Labour-controlled, and they've been doing a really good job, generally. We've had lots of communication from them about initiatives and performance - which the Lib Dems (who are the national party in control here) have been very snide about. I doubt Reform et all will get very far here, as it's very much going to be between Labour and the Lib Dems. Possibly Green, but we've had no correspondence from them at all.

DuncinToffee · 23/04/2026 15:11

Our council boundary changed, for local elections it is usually between the local independents amd Lib Dems.

I hope the reactions against the flags that popped up means there isn't a lot of love for Reform.

Keeping a keen eye on the Respect Party in Tower Hamlets.

Well, well, well. That will upset posters elsewhere who are banging on about how fabulous he is and how his testimony means Starmer must go (I’m not sure how they arrived at that even without this info though, to be fair).

There are suddenly many anti-Labour MN armchair experts on the finer and more acane details of the vetting process and which boxes are ticked etc. It is really amusing.

LittleBowSheep · 23/04/2026 15:46

MsJinks · 23/04/2026 14:04

Haha - someone pointed this out to a St George flag shagger at a counter protest - he shouted back he wasn’t at all from outside Ingerland then looked actually quite upset lol

Lol. I'd like to say it's amazing how many of them don't know. But it isn't, is it?

I'm in Birmingham. A council so incompetent it can't be assessed.

The bin strike has gone on for (checks notes) 14 months. No sign of ending.

They have spaffed hundreds of millions on an accounting system which still cannot provide a basic audit (at any level).

They have spaffed millions on a Content Management System that really does reflect the best the 1990s had to offer. It also doesn't really work.

Several oil companies are bidding for mineral rights too some of the larger potholes.

And the illegal traffic calming wheezes continue unabated.

Not quite sure people are in the mood to return Labour in any shape.

cardibach · 23/04/2026 16:07

This IPSOS poll is more encouraging re the Senedd.

I am in traditional Toryland. My councillor is an excellent independent who has really been hands on. I reckon he will be replaced by a Reformaloon, sadly.

Piggywaspushed · 23/04/2026 16:30

placemats · 23/04/2026 14:33

Yes that's my stance. Anyway the Green Party is going to have to get a new system in place instead of entryism. Plus they are full to the brim with Corbyn fans.

LOL, that'll be me!

BIossomtoes · 23/04/2026 16:37

I’m in Tory Central. The local MP is doing a really great job so I envision Reform getting nowhere here. That might, of course, be just my Pollyanna tendencies.

TemperanceWest · 23/04/2026 16:47

Two weeks to go. I expect MN to be anti-Labour/Green and pro-Reform froth central. Tories are probably an irrelevance at this point and may end up with fewer seats than Labour in all three countries? Not sure about Lib Dems? I would like to see them do well.

cardibach · 23/04/2026 16:49

Mumsnet is struggling to find my ‘I’m on’ page. I can get to all the threads on it in other ways and can see and access notifications, but not the ‘I’m on’ tab. Anyone else?

Karistyleaftea · 23/04/2026 16:50

We have 3 Labour here, the Tory stranglehold of however many years was overturned last time around.
Thankfully.
They will have my vote again and the lovely red poster will be in my window too.
Another one here who cannot vote Green due to Polanski at the helm. It was dreadful how they tipped out Adrian and Carla. I may be very wrong but I don't think the party will do much for women with him in charge.
What the BBC are doing currently is dreadful imo and I hope that it will catch up with them very soon.

The G&D by-election gave us a taster.

Maybe we can come up with a plopper bingo card

Had the same and then finally logged out by the site - when I logged back in everything was okay again

And maybe some Russian inspired names like our last couple of ploppers?

Eta: dear lurkers, don't bother reporting my post, the posters referred to have been banned as I understand it, so I am not troll hunting.🙂

Yes - I've had to log out, log back in after forgetting password, then clear cookies and turn round 3 times and kiss the cat. Got back in eventually although still seems a little flaky.

A parliamentary by-election is a lot different from a council election. Obviously devolved Parliamnets are different.

'Starmer is toast' needs to be on that. Also 'Two Tier Kier' (note spelling), 'Rachel From Accounts' and no doubt many more.
Very interesting stuff from Cat Little today.
