Lovely. It reminds me of one of the things I often ponder. How does my dog know what another dog looks like? Whether it’s a chihuahua, Dachshund or Irish Wolfhound, none of which look anything like a miniature Schnauzer he will always recognise them, even from a great distance, as another dog (and start barking).

All very good questions that get to the idea of what "intelligence" might be.

I am still of the belief that intelligence is the universes way of getting to zero entropy quicker. The huge amounts of energy "AI" are consuming rather tends towards that idea 😀

Haven't seen @PandoraSocks for a while and hope everything is okay. I know we sometimes disagree but I do enjoy reading your posts.

Yes, where is Pandora???

DuncinToffee · 20/04/2026 17:04

I was watching the caribou migration documentary on the BBC the other day where they all start moving on the same day every year

We had a horse who, when we first got him, would get anxious in his stable so we put a mirror in and he would happily stand nose to nose with "the other horse".

Piggywaspushed · 20/04/2026 17:07

Pandora's account isn't active atm which is worrying, I think the benefit bashing and the lack of a safe space -even on here sometimes- got to her.

I really hope lovely P is OK.

PickAChew · 20/04/2026 17:10

The jackdaws that fly over us at sunset every day are similar. They all gather on and around the local coop building and might sit there for a good while on a warm evening. There can be over 100 of them after all the youngsters have fledged. All at once, they take off and carry on the journey, as if one of them blew a whistle.

pointythings · 20/04/2026 17:39

I wouldn't blame her for taking a break from Mumsnet. It is for the most part toxic, a few threads aside.

I wonder if this is how Reform will win the General Election ?

Not stand "Reform" candidates, but "Independents" who then immediately "join" Reform.

(I never liked this "you vote for the candidate not the party" bollocks).

The u and the i are adjacent on the keyboard, and calling out typos is the preferred strategy of those with nothing valid to say.

It was clearly a typo, to most of us anyway. Except to those whose only purpose on this thread is to taunt and ridicule us.

The last independent MP elected was Jeremy Corbyn.

New blinds and the electrics sorted (includes outdoor light and super extractor fan in the bathroom). Happy bunny.

The last independent MP elected was Jeremy Corbyn.

But with our broken electoral system, it's entirely possible that an "independent" MP could be returned as a result of an anti-Reform tactical voting trend.

Some dogsbody MP called the PM liar and was asked to leave because they didn't retract the accusation.

Their first name rhymes with 30p.

Absolute joke that man Gavin Robinson DUP. The nerve of it!

Zarah Sultana was too.

Troika71 · 20/04/2026 18:38

Diane Abbott was superb.

Well that makes a change from attacking her

Fairly obviously planned in advance to do this - lovely bit bait for the GB news watchers.

(When I type he planned it, I mean he did as he was told)

They absolutely did as they were told.

Abbott was in the Cabinet alongside Mandelson.

Attempting to derail a good conversation by attempting (and failing) to ridicule those already involved shows that person for who they are. Trying to taunt others when you are a one trick pony who doesn't seem to have the wit to understand the depth of discussion confirms my view that the person is disingenuous and as far as I'm concerned not someone to pay heed to.

Agree. It is crass behaviour.
