Not long enough though. Ludicrously lenient sentence.

I was absolutely gobsmacked such an elderly couple kicked off like this - showing the very worst of pensioners and today’s U.K. - glad they got jail, wish they got more.

FT

Sir Keir Starmer ignored advice in November 2024 that any political appointee for the job of ambassador to the US should undergo national security vetting before being formally appointed, government documents suggest.

The revelation increases scrutiny on the prime minister’s decision to announce Lord Peter Mandelson as ambassador to Washington in December 2024 before security vetting had taken place.

Maybe he could start his own truth social and call it farage truth or FT for short Wink

Not for one minute do I believe that Starmer deliberatelymisled Parliament regarding Mendelson.

Unlike Johnson who did deliberately mislead Parliament and the Queen.

TemperanceWest · 20/04/2026 13:26

It looks as though Starmer is going to admit that he inadvertently misled Parliament. So all that needs to happen is the record will be corrected.

If Robbins clarifies tomorrow that Starmer didn't know about the security vetting failure then that's it. The vultures can stop circling for a little while.

Come now, we all know there will be more to come out.

This is Starmer, after all, and this story has more legs than a millipede.

Its a monumentally bad decision, however you look at it. Can I bear to listen to Stärmer later?

He's only just realised it now? How precious is he?

TemperanceWest · 20/04/2026 13:35

"Friends of Robbins have said he had a legal duty not to divulge the details of a highly intrusive vetting process. Ciaran Martin, a former senior civil servant, said: “Not only is there no duty to disclose the details of a vetting case, there is a duty not to disclose them.” Simon McDonald, a former permanent secretary of the Foreign Office, said vetting was a “confidential process”, citing the Constitutional Reform and Governance Act 2010"

Just trying to catch up with the Senedd Leaders’ Debate on ITVX but only half of it’s there. It’s enough to see what smug arrogant gits the Tory and Reform leaders are though…

The assumption is that there is a leak in the white house of market sensitive information prior to market impacting announcements by Trump.

Probably a large orange leak.

Nobody will ever get into trouble for it...

It's all incredibly murky and not even subtle at this point. Corruption, greed and dishonesty, no matter the human cost, in plain sight.

PropertyD · 20/04/2026 14:00

Starmer is in trouble here. Do I think he will survive? Probably..

Burnham - not even an MP
Rayner - being investigated for tax evasion (as Housing Minister)
Streeting - too close to Mandelson

He cannot simply blame everyone else everytime something goes wrong. I didnt know, they didnt tell me etc.

Its also probably not his choice to go on 'first' - he doesnt know what Sir Ollie is going to say. This is far far worse that Johnson eating tea and cake. Mandelson could have given state secrets to China, or being blackmailed. Why on earth did he appoint Madelson before he had been security cleared and then show no interest in the result. Maybe he just didnt want to know as he had already announced the position. After all he didnt want to appear stupid and ill informed...oh wait.
