To have second thoughts about leaving my cats to go on holiday ?

luluxxx · 12/04/2026 11:07

We are going on holiday for two weeks in 2 months time.
I am getting really anxious about leaving them.
They will be going to my dads house (where they’ve been before )
Im going to really worry about them.
My dad turned his spare room into a cat room,he has a big cat tree ,toys and blankets etc but I still worry about them.
Im having second thoughts about going but we have paid nearly £4,000 for this holiday so it’s a lot to waste and think partner would be so mad.
Aibu ?

Yes love, YABU.

What are you worried about exactly?

DisplayPurposesOnly · 12/04/2026 11:09

YABVU.

spicysalad · 12/04/2026 11:10

YAB ridiculous. If you’re not comfortable with them going to your dad’s house then get a pet sitter to come to your house.

sounds like your father has gone all out to look after your cats, think they will have a ball!
We all worry about leaving our pets, but it's, not like with a stranger and like I said your father seems to be doing all he can to make them happy.
no point in wasting the holiday and the money go enjoy yourself

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 12/04/2026 11:12

You’re having second thoughts about going on a £4,000 holiday because your cats are going to stay somewhere they’ve stayed before, with a member of your family, who has set up an entire room especially to suit them and their needs?

Okaaaaaaaay 🤨

Whoops75 · 12/04/2026 11:12

YABU

Seriously I have left my kids in similar setups

Nowvoyager99 · 12/04/2026 11:14

Are they normally indoor only cats? Mine would go mental being cooped up for two weeks.

If they don’t normally go outside then YABU.

InconsequentialFerret · 12/04/2026 11:15

It sounds like they've got a great set up at your Dad's! Try not to worry 🙂

Alabamaslammer23 · 12/04/2026 11:16

If they’re used to going outside a cat sitter would be much better. Cats are happier in their own environment, I would also be worried about them escaping from the room when the door is opened. I’ve had cats all my life and always had a cat sitter. We’ve found a lovely local lady from the Cat in a Flat website.

TheWildZebra · 12/04/2026 11:17

Did you post about this before? I recall a post last year about something similar where the cats were in one room and the dad had dogs and the issue was keeping them separate or something.

Comedycook · 12/04/2026 11:18

Get a grip

zurigo · 12/04/2026 11:18

What exactly are you worried about OP? It sounds like your Dad has made a big effort to keep them happy and safe.

DarmokAndJaladAtTenagra · 12/04/2026 11:23

Are you really worried about your cats? Are you just fixating on an imaginary problem to try to distract yourself from an actual real worry?

Or is this post a wind up?

worrisomeasset · 12/04/2026 11:30

To be honest, you have absolutely no reason to worry. I’d recommend getting some help for your anxiety issues.

Absolutely this. Sounds like cat will have a great time. My cat adores going to stay with my parents as she loves my mum.

mondaytosunday · 12/04/2026 11:49

I just went in a 15 day holiday. I normally get a sitter to stay but was let down so the first ten days they had a teenage boy from up the road come twice a day, then a friend stayed for the last few days. We are back home and the cats are totally chilled and don’t seem to have missed us at all!
What exactly is your worry? I agree with PP that perhaps there is something other than your cats causing a reluctance about this holiday. Going away can be stressful but try and focus on the new experiences you will be having.

Worlds gone fucking mad. They are cats ffs.

All this “fur baby” shit from grown adults. Embarrassed for you Op

You’ll get the same responses as you got the last time you posted about it.

catipuss · 12/04/2026 13:33

Sounds great I wish I had someone like that to look after my cats. I hate leaving them in the house alone with someone coming in to feed them or worse kennels.

No need for this nastiness.

My daughter and my cat are my world, I wouldn’t have anyone else come in to look after him, or send him to a cattery. He hates it if we even go out at the same time.

ThisGreenUser · 12/04/2026 13:48

I don’t think YABU, I didn’t realise how stressful I was finding leaving my (very elderly rescue) cat until she had died. I would be so irrationally stressed out about leaving her but in reality she was sleeping 22 hours a day and being fed unlimited chicken by my neighbours!!

Your kitties will be fine, sounds like your dad is excited to have them. Enjoy your holiday!

Ok you could have put this in a kinder way but I do agree. Too may people over indulge their pets these days, particularly dogs, and then wonder why they have behavioural issues etc...

Crunchymum · 12/04/2026 13:59

I get it.

We go away for our first holiday abroad this year (2 weeks) and it's the first time we've left the cats for this long. They are quite used to me being around as I WFH so I always feel guilty leaving them.

We have left them loads for a week at a time but two weeks just feels so long.

Someone will be in once a day to feed, clean out litter trays and give them some fuss (one cat won't be seen for 2 weeks as he doesn't do strangers - even FIL / MIL). Plus they'll have open access to dry food and water etc.

The only other option is we never get to go away for longer than a week and given the cats are 4 and 6 that means many years of foregoing longer trips.

I console myself with the fact they'll sleep 95% of the time we're away anyway 😂

If you're the alternative, give me cats and people who worry about cats any time.

I agree. It's so weird and depressing to watch the human race behave like this. I bet the cats don't give a shit
