How does someone like Keir Starmer receive a knighthood?

I can't help wondering how Keir Starmer ever got to be made a sir? I always thought sirs were people who had done something special?

That's how PMQ works. Every single PM has handled it in the same way. It's a circus, not serious politics. Remember Cameron's 'calm down, dear' sneer? You don't have to like PMQ, but don't pretend KS is the first and only to enact it as it has always been.

The purpose of PMQs now is to get tv coverage - 30-40 seconds of whatever cheap “zinger” for GB news or whatever.

Serves little to no purpose otherwise.

Was far more useful before it was televised.

I'd suggest you pull up a few videos of Boris Johnson and Liz Truss doing PMQs.

Fess up. You're not for real, are you? I'd be almost relieved to find out you were trolling rather than someone who actually believes what they're saying.

you believe that anybody that does not share your point of view is trolling?

Have you ever considered that we have all had individual lives and pasts, and that as adults we will be products of our pasts and lived experiences. This means we will all have differing points of view. This does not make
us stupid or trolls .
I hope this clarifies things a bit for you!

There was a great episode of When it hits the Fan on Radio 4 about how David Beckham got his knighthood and the amount of time and effort it took his PR firm

Personally I don't think you are trolling. However, your complete failure to see or understand the wider political context because you want to score cheap points about Starmer undermines your own argument. You would get more engagement if you were more thoughtful, informed and nuanced in your approach.

It’s a bit odd by any standards not to have googled why Starmer was made a sir before posting.

I do think you should have googled before posting. Would have made for a better discussion (eg discussing should someone with an honour give that up before going into politics)

Have you watched his behaviour on PM questions? He gets asked some serious questions which are of utmost importance to the general public in these times of uncertainty, and he answers by talking about something totally different and unrelated to the question. It's frankly bizarre . He is simply incapable of answering a question at all. He veers off by answering a question that he would have preferred to have been asked.

You really are showing yourself to be incredibly naive and rather foolish. Have you never watched or listened to PMQs before Keir Starmer became PM? He handles PMQs no differently to any prime minister I can remember over the last 50 years, including Margaret Thatcher, Tony Blair, John Major, Boris Johnson, and Theresa May. That is how PMQs work.

All PMs do this sort of thing at PMQs. I agree it is not a good thing, but it didn't start with Starmer.

Johnson was particularly stellar at not answering the question.

My main point was always about the criteria used for awarding these honours.
I'm no fan of KS - I think he's awful and certainly incompetent for the job of PM in my opinion.
I'm not looking to score cheap points - I don't need to, just look at his popularity ratings.
We are still allowed to criticise those we think deserve it. I also think the labour party is the one most likely to curb this freedom but I don't want to start a discussion on this. I thank God I can still say it though.

I would love to discuss it further but not on here as I think there are too many people on this thread who are unwilling to have a serious discussion (on both sides).
We all learn from listening to the opinions of others and understanding why they think as they do. This leads to greater understanding all round and is the start of being able to reach consensus and try to explain standpoints.

OK. But as far as I know there is no legislation on the horizon that will silence anyone, but if you know of something it would be good if you could share?

It's literally nothing to do with your point of view. It's that you started a thread full of completely incoherent arguments only to display how incredibly ill-informed you are on those very arguments, which, by the way, are things that you could gain an understanding of in about 15 minutes on google.

You can't even seem to decide what you're against. His record as DPP? His honours? The whole honours system? His elevation to head of the Labour Party? His policies as PM? His performance at PMQ's? Because none of the last three relate in any way to your first posting, but you don't seem to be able to understand that.

Still waiting to find out who those 'masters' were? The ones he somehow pleased enough to receive a knighthood. Can you explain?

not really when you consider the proposed blasphemy laws being debated in parliament . It's probably closer than we think.

You are pinging around trying to formulate an argument on the basis of what sounds like a lot of GB News talking points.

Google would have absolutely answered the question. But you didnt really have a question - you just wanted to moan about Starmer. At least own it.

Starting a thread titled “I don’t like Keir Starmer” would be a better way to own it than faux inquiring about a perfectly googleable fact.
