I never choose the favourite I just look at the list of names and choose a couple that jump out at me. Today I’m going for Spanish Harlem and stellar story.

Can’t wait til 4pm. Off to Costco now to get all the buffet food, kids have picked their horses and the sun is out 🐎

No doubt all the virtue signallers here will be tuning in too, frothing and getting yourselves in such a tizzy.

Definition of deluded.

No one. Horse racing is barbaric.

No virtual signalling here. I loath horse racing and fox hunting. I loath cruelty in any form.

Vinorosso74 · 11/04/2026 12:40

I won't. Horse racing is a cruel industry. A horse died at Aintree yesterday. It broke it's back yet the jockey still whipped it and made it win the race. All about the money.

It's not a well loved event on Mumsnet OP. I live quite close to Aintree. It is a massive event locally and has been a big thing since I was a child. My DD hates it and has nothing to do with it. I'm going to my mum's to watch it.

Yeah, Lady’s Day always makes me laugh! I always thought they were meant to make an effort!

They make a huge effort! Seriously, some of them have been preparing for ages. It brings in a massive amount of money for hairdressers and salons locally. It might not be your taste but trust me, they make an effort.

RampantIvy · 11/04/2026 12:50

Or with anyone else I know. I have several horse owning friends and they all hate it as do all my other friends.

Everyone is aware that it is a massive event locally, but it doesn't make it OK.

Certainly doesn't look like a lot of them make an effort unless it's an effort to look a mess. I am convinced most of them don't own a mirror

Maybe if jockeys were being injured or killed in almost every race it would be stopped. They pretend they care about the horses but they really don't.

The jockey yesterday is a disgusting piece of shit whipping an injured dying horse. I hope he never sleeps well again after what he did.

Nobody. Seeing that horse break their back on a jump and continue to be whipped despite gait ataxia the jockey must have felt … I rode thoroughbreds for years you can feel their gait change. …

Disgusting isn't it.

Laiste · 11/04/2026 12:54

Yes let's swan about in big hats while horses die.

Widgetinacan · 11/04/2026 12:55

I went to Ladies day at Cheltenham and it was such a sleazy affair. I'm still surprised at how scummy it was. Really opened my eyes.

Just did a quick Google and am amazed at how many horses die in these races. Makes you wonder what it's like behind the scenes too. It seems like a bloodsport really. It needs to be banned in a civilised society.

I’m gutted I missed it this year I really wanted to go. I’m trying to book York but just need to plan dates around booking a holiday. I was also going to back panic attack but didn’t like the odds.

The Ebor meeting at York in August is great.

I heard a horse had been put down but did not know these details.
That's absolutely sickening

Lets hope he gets a lifetime ban, it's a dreadful "sport" and should be banned, just like fox hunting and badger baiting.

Many many horses die or are badly injured over a year. It's disgusting and if evean a fraction of that number of jockeys were injured or killed then racing would be banned.

If you think it is ok then I feel sorry for your lack of feeling

Not a TAAT but one came up on the "Similar Threads" from last year .
Very similar theme , who are you backing , great laugh etc , even the "Well I'm off to get in a great amount of food etc"

Op ( on that thread) managed to rake in £2500 from her DH win for a boob job .
Hope it brings them happiness ,
Can you even get both augmentations for £2500 ?
