What have you done in the real world that MN disapproves of?

As per the title.... what have you done in the real word that would have Mumsnetter's frothing at the mouth?

I will start.
Someone reversed into my (parked) car and we sorted it out ourselves (without informing insurance!😲) with them paying us to get it fixed (which has now been done).
Gosh..... aren't we naughty!🤣🤣🤣🤣

What is it with Boden on this site, most of the clothes, esp kids ones are hideous 😂

Agree 😆

willitevergetwarm · 10/04/2026 16:51

I do all the card and present shopping for mine and my DH's family

I love my in-laws

My MIL is difficult and rude and other than DH and I eye rolling and having a bit of a moan we don't go low/ no contact and tolerate her because she's old, probably autistic and has good traits

This is the one I think is actually the biggest disparity between MN and real life!

Pretty much everyone I know (including myself) have difficult relatives and mostly just have a whinge about them and carry on regardless. On MN everyone appears to go NC at the smallest bloody thing! It would take something absolutely HUGE for me to go NC with a family member.

We're all human at the end of the day and people (including all us perfect MNers 😉) can be knobs and act badly at times!

AgnesMcDoo · 10/04/2026 16:53

let my children go out to play from a young age
let them stay home alone if I pop out
let them stay in the car when I pay for petrol
take them out of school for family holidays
leave my front door unlocked
answer my door when the doorbell rings
have actual conversations with people instead of texting them - especially if it’s on a topic that might be misunderstood
I don’t change my bed sheets / towels / bra daily
I don’t mop the floor or vacuum several times a day
I liked my MIL

Me and my husband have on occasion lost our tempers and called each other unpleasant names without me thinking we are in a toxic or abusive relationship.

FoolOfShips · 10/04/2026 16:55

My MIL and I are fond of one another.

My DH doesn't have an 'outing hobby, think cycling'.

I can't drive a car.

I adore my daughter in law. She is one of the best women I have ever known. We're very pleased she's become part of our family.

On the same note, I adore my MIL and FIL and I think they would actually take my side over DHs if it ever came to it 😆He agrees and doesn't seem to mind😉

ToadRage · 10/04/2026 16:57

My husband has cuckold, threesome and girl-on-girl fantasies and 'shock horror' i have no intention of divorcing him.

Oh god, I once worked at an ultra HNWI's property in central London and had to sign an NDA/instruction sheet in the security hut before entering the property. It included the rule I couldn't sit on anything (including the floor) and that I could use the toilet used by the kitchen staff but for urination purposes only. Security had to accompany me and stand outside. At their other property they provided a permanent single portaloo behind the bins for non-household staff.

Blimey, that's terrible. Hope no one every used the staff toilet for a wee and suddenly found they really needed a poo. What would they do if someone did?

How the other (massively rich and ridiculous) half live 🙄

Absolutely! If I took to MN when me and DH had an argument and gave you the complete rundown (from my POV obviously), I would probably have people telling me to ring Woman's Aid and leave him instantly.

In reality we can both be dicks at times and I can give as good as I get. Just depends which one of us is in the bad mood at the time 😂

We've only ever gone to sleep on an argument once (I think?!) and we talk everything through and then it all blows over. I don't understand how can people can live with someone every single day and go through all the complexities and stresses of life WITHOUT arguing at times?!

kingcake · 10/04/2026 16:59

I put all three of my kids on the Gina Ford schedule from birth. Resulted in three happy, well-rested kids who slept through the night by the time they were 3 months old!

godmum56 · 10/04/2026 16:59

I wear crocs and skinny jeans and am happy to use people's preferred pronouns if I can remember what they are. I don't EVER go to the gym and never have, can't swim and can't see what the fuss is about, have never worn makeup or heels or gone clubbing. Oh and I drive a diesel 4x4.

GreenCaterpillarOnALeaf · 10/04/2026 16:59

Also sometimes I do have a ciggie if I’m at the pub garden and it’s sunny. I don’t buy my own anymore but if I’m with my dad I will steal one. 7 mins taken off my life but 7 mins well spent if you ask me.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 10/04/2026 16:59

Existed, basically.

BlackCat14 · 10/04/2026 17:02

My partner and I have been away for a night or two here and there and left our baby with grandparents overnight.

Also, whenever my partner does something annoying, I don’t LTB.

EverythingElseIsTaken · 10/04/2026 17:03

I have a friend who is a trans woman. I share finances with DH. I have male friends. I’ve never got my ducks in a row. I love my DH more than I love our children.

Snap. I also - shock horror - do my DHs washing, make his lunches and pack his case for him if we're going away.

He works his backside off and does plenty of stuff that I don't think about / can't do so it's only fair. Plus it makes me happy doing things to make him feel loved.

ToWhitToWhoo · 10/04/2026 17:04

It's more something that I haven't done: I haven't learned to drive. I was advised not to, because of visual processing problems that would make me a danger to myself and others on the roads. But accordong to some on MN, Ithat's no excuse and people like me are just useless wasters.

LavenderFieldds · 10/04/2026 17:04

golla346 · 10/04/2026 15:14

Already done multiple AMA 🤦🏻‍♀️

👏👏👏

Arraminta · 10/04/2026 17:04

Have never even considered going NC with anyone let alone family. God knows MIL deeply offended me several times and was twice deliberately malicious. But I wouldn't have dreamed of causing a family rift because I love DH and would never deliberately try to hurt him.

AgnesMcDoo · 10/04/2026 17:05

I don’t send thank you cards

ThatLilacTiger · 10/04/2026 17:05

Treated trans people like people.

SwimmingInWarmWater · 10/04/2026 17:06

We wash towels used for showers after every use because I hate towels hanging around the house

We have a second home and also have properties that we rent out

We call our dogs our babies and take them to cafes with us

Our adult children live with us rent free

I love my friends children and like to hear about what they’re up to

We have a lot of TVs

We spend thousands on Christmas, with lots of decorations, gifts, matching pyjamas etc

We decorate our house for Autumn and Halloween

I don’t care when people don’t use headphones on trains, in cafes etc. I don’t do it myself, but it doesn’t bother me any more than people chatting or other noises that I hear

I prefer cooler weather and on hot days stay inside with air con

GoldenPineapple15 · 10/04/2026 14:10

I throw away the roast chicken carcass without making stock or soup.

You are being unreasonable. Your family could have lived for a week on that!

Topsytiger · 10/04/2026 17:11

Have loo brush, know how to use it.
Have tattoos
I vape
I eat crisps for breakfast sometimes (often)
Can cook, won't cook, will microwave
I've got buzzballs (as of this afternoon when someone gave me some to take home to be honest, I'm guessing they're not an MN favourite)
