Anyone else unsure whether they actually like chocolate?

I had a bar of milk chocolate the other day. Not the grotty palm oil variety. I didn't enjoy it at all and told dh I don't like chocolate anymore and I am now a non chocolate eater. Except, I'm not sure. I've always liked chocolate. I like black forest gateau. I don't like brownies or chocolate ice cream though. I like a hot chocolate, but not chocolate milk shake. I like chocolate peanuts and raisins, but not chocolate brazils, in spite of loving brazil nuts.

Anyone else not sure whether they actually like it? 😂

I could take it or leave it. I didn't like it as a child.

Overtheatlantic · 04/04/2026 16:18

No, I’m quite certain I adore it. In all its various delivery systems, but especially ice cream and mousse.

Devastated999 · 04/04/2026 16:18

I'm not a massive lover myself. The only chocolates I tollerate are Lindor and Fererro Rocher. Anything else I'd leave it.

I’m a non choocolate eater too. It’s too sticky. If forced I’d have galaxy mintrells and I love Tiramisu, but that’s just dusted with chocolate.
I quite like the NaKD cocoa delight better.

oohyoudevilyou · 04/04/2026 16:19

Apart from Twirls and Flakes, I can take it ot leave it. Dark chocolate is too bitter for me, and I don't like any kind of chocolate cake, drink or dessert.
Haribo are a completely different matter 😂

somanychristmaslights · 04/04/2026 16:20

I loved it, but everything recently tastes vile. Although I had some Tonys salted caramel chocolate the other day and that was delicious!

Overtheatlantic · 04/04/2026 16:20

Goodness. Is this thread really in the spirit of MN?

GoldMoon · 04/04/2026 16:20

I can take or leave chocolate . I've probably only had brownies once or twice in my life same for millionaires shortbread .,Haven't had an easter egg for years .
If ever I have chocolate it's always at least 75% + dark chocolate and only a square or two .
Milk chocolate does nothing for me as I find it too claggy and sweet .

janeandmarysmum · 04/04/2026 16:23

I won two easter eggs in two separate raffles and couldn't finish either of them. One was a galaxy minstrels egg - the chocolate was vile. The other was an expensive monty bojangles truffle egg. Palm oil featured heavily in the ingredients and you could taste it. So I guess I don't like chocolate anymore. My T1D husband nobly finished both eggs over a few days to stave off hypos.

gingercat02 · 04/04/2026 16:25

I only really like crap chocolate. Kit Kats, double deckers, twirls, aeros. I like lindt balls. I'm really not fussy or snobby about chocolate.
Hate chocolate cake, chocolate desserts, brownies, and would much rather a great coffee than hot chocolate.

ginasevern · 04/04/2026 16:25

I'm not mad about chocolate either and I definitely don't like chocolate desserts of any kind. I prefer sweets if I want a sweet hit. Something like fruit jellies or jelly babies. Generally though I'd rather have a bit of cheese.

Springiscoming368 · 04/04/2026 16:28

I love chocolate but I can’t stand hot chocolate / cakes / puddings / sweets. I’m never bothered by a pudding unless it’s a brownie etc.

My husband loves a good pudding and sweets.

junebirthdaygirl · 04/04/2026 16:28

Chocolate has changed. I always lived a Cadbury Fruit and Nut but it's not the same and it makes me cough for some reason. But l will have an Easter Egg just for tradition!

Wishitwasstraightforward · 04/04/2026 16:29

I used to like chocolate very much. These days I am increasingly ambivalent. I think that the changes that have been made to ingredients over the past few years have taken the shine off it.

Even the good stuff which hasn’t been ruined hold less appeal- probably because eating the ruined stuff has changed my attitude towards chocolate.

Kingdomofsleep · 04/04/2026 16:31

I only like white chocolate, and I've been told by several people that's not real chocolate! I absolutely hate expensive dark chocolate.

I also can't drink more than a few sips of hot chocolate. It just tastes of impending acid reflux for me

PeonyPatch · 04/04/2026 16:32

Oh I love it, but I love good chocolate. Not the mainstream crap that’s out these days.

PembeGreyfurt · 04/04/2026 16:33

That's quite alright. Just give me your share please 😊

Yeah, I'm a bit suspicious of it now. It was actually a bar of Tony's I had because it was the only one with few ingredients and no palm, but it didn't taste like chocolate. It was just kind of sweet and not much else.

I love mostly anything chocolate and I've spent a ridiculous amount of money in the British aisle of my local store on whispers and flakes. The only chocolate I've had that I didn't care for was some expensive artisan vegan stuff I had recently. It tasted like punishment. My mum has sent us all proper British Easter eggs and I can't bloody wait to open mine.

Rhosie · 04/04/2026 16:43

Not a lover of milk chcolate, too sweet, but I do like dark chocolate. Not keen on other forms, cake, ice cream though I do like the odd brownie.

Chocolatebunny61 · 04/04/2026 16:46

I love chocolate and will happily eat loads but I was given a Thorntons Egg yesterday that I ate a bit of and it was absolutely revolting - I had to put it in the bin - and that’s unheard of for me!

Moveyourbleedingarse · 04/04/2026 16:50

I wish. I have an addiction to 90% dark chocolate from Waitrose.

Massively dislike sweet milk chocolate. Gives me tongue ulcers and a headache plus a racing heart.

But 90%, I can eat 5 squares a day. Sometimes 7.

Its both expensive and not brilliant for my calorie intake. Though it is surprisingly high in fibre and protein.

Whattheduck · 04/04/2026 16:53

I was a chocoholic but I’ve not touched it since Christmas as I’ve really gone off it as it just doesn’t taste the same anymore.
I thought I’d miss having it but I don’t.

Wynter25 · 04/04/2026 16:59

I love chocolate

RawBloomers · 04/04/2026 19:07

I like it a lot less than I did a decade ago, but still enjoy it in some situations.
