We all know MN hates the word moist, but are there any others that you really dislike?

I don't like smear or seep.

Letsgoforaskip · 03/04/2026 15:10

Pleasant/nice

Going forwards

No offence (probably means there’s going to be offence 😂)

Whosthetabbynow · 03/04/2026 15:10

Win/win. Moreish. Congratulations. Gusset. Sustenance. Gobble. Space cadet (to refer to someone whacky). Whacky. Lots more I’m sure

Advocodo · 03/04/2026 15:12

‘Norm’.
It never used to be a word I am sure!

That’s like “I’m not being nasty/racist/rude…” preceding a comment which is exactly that!

PottingBench · 03/04/2026 15:16

Yes no. Why do people say this all the time????

Or 'I'm not being funny but........"

PottingBench · 03/04/2026 15:17

People who start a sentence that is meant to be derogatory with the word sorry.

Sorry, but you brought it on yourself.

They're not sorry In fact they're the opposite of sorry.

Gobsmacked, not going to lie , gotten

ChaToilLeam · 03/04/2026 15:21

"Points to ponder" gives me the rage.

And don't get me started on "reach out" - if you're not in the Four Tops, don't say it!

biwr · 03/04/2026 15:27

“You’ve got this”

YorkieTheRabbit · 03/04/2026 15:28

Robust
Let me be clear, usually used by politicians who are being anything but!

igelkott2026 · 03/04/2026 15:46

gift, impact as a verb - it's give and affect

excited for when people mean excited about, or looking forward to

talking to something when they mean talking about - I talk TO a friend and ABOUT the weather. I don't talk to the weather! Well maybe people do actually when they tell the rain to go away :)

likely will instead of probably will or it is likely to

youbizarrehorse · 03/04/2026 15:48

Plate as a verb.
Piece as a word for an item of clothing.

Wondering what your issue is with gotten @ThesophisticatedJY?

EllaPepper · 03/04/2026 15:48

"it is what it is". this is such a defeatist phrase and rarely the case. it really irritates me.

To me it sounds ugly , if that’s ok ?

ohyesido · 03/04/2026 16:21

I’m fine with moist

I can’t bear “snog” or the phrase “boyfriend and girlfriend” uttered by grown adults

DreamingOfGeneHunt · 03/04/2026 16:22

Portion/helping/serving. Which is unfortunate because I work in a kitchen.

StrikeItMucky · 03/04/2026 16:23

"Excited for"... this annoys the shit out of me too @igelkott2026

"Me either" - when people mean Neither.
"Based off of" - It's generally "based ON"
I'm sure there's many more that irritate me but this is all I've got so far

feelingfree17 · 03/04/2026 16:24

I came on this thread to say gobsmacked 😄.

I find it oddly revolting.

HangingOver · 03/04/2026 16:37

I fucking hate "silly" when not spoken to a child or animal. I don't know why but grown adults refering to anything is silly feels so twee and matronly.
