What do you think?

Is it close to real do you think?

Not watched it yet but planning on starting when I've finished watching Trying.

Can I ask where I can watch trying?

Went and got I. Bed last at about 9.40 and caught the last 20 mins. Didn’t know anything about it at first. Do you know what, I couldn’t take my eyes off it. I have had 6 cycles of IVF and 8 miscarriages. Yes, I think it was pretty close.

MotherofPufflings · 01/04/2026 16:29

I'm on episode 2. Not enjoying it as much as Trying. I'm finding it hard to care that much about the characters - they're nice enough but not engaging enough to make me to feel invested in what happens. It's a bit slow, feel like the episodes drag a bit

MotherJessAndKittens · 01/04/2026 16:33

for the couple having problems conceiving yes but not sure about the other couple. Guys a prat. Acting seems a bit awkward to me.

It's on bbc iplayer

Episode 3 - it's growing on me...

ThunderCatsHooo · 03/04/2026 16:25

Terrible acting and very unlikeable characters. It's so so slow and very predictable too. I knew exactly what would happen in the first episode, of course the woman who doesn't want kids gets accidentally pregnant then proceeds to rub her nose in it. Then the whole wedding thing, if you started bleeding and you were at a wedding you wouldn't dash off like that in your wedding outfit, you'd ring the early pregnancy unit (as you are still under 16 weeks) who will probably say "we'll try and squeeze you in for a scan tomorrow if we can". All the dramatic rushing in a taxi in wedding clothes and with the woman she barely knows. Just completely unrealistic. And then there's the swearing, who swears that much in real life? You are led to believe they are quite middle class, yet the effing in conversation?? I swear when I stump my toe I wouldnt have sat pre children casually effing in conversation to my husband. It's so unnecessary and unrealistic.

No Spoilers.

I've binged it, so it certainly had something. There was some powerful acting, by Lisa and Stephen. Some of it was heart wrenching, however - a potted review - IMO -

  • It was at times so slow that I thought it was going to keel over. I'm sure it was designed for effect, but it didn't work for me. Minutes of silence. The story could have easily and more effectively been told in 4hrs instead of 6hrs.
  • Dave and Amanda - totally incongruous. They simply wouldn't ever be a couple in real life. I did ponder at one point if she might be wanting to get pregnant, but I cannot believe that anyone would choose somebody so totally thick as pigshit to father their child.
  • Dave - Do people like him really exist? Have I lead a sheltered life? His character was really difficult to believe, watch and was grating.
  • I hated the music. Totally unimaginative. The singing was awful. On a plus point though, it was easy to zone out of it.

As for the subject matter though, I thought it was well played out and heart-rendering. I cried at times. I thought that Lisa and Stephen were wonderful, and I loved their interaction.

I love it!! So realistic. I've had multiple miscarriages and don't really know anyone else who did in real life ( whether it's because they don't talk about it)

MotherofPufflings · 15/04/2026 15:39

I take it all back - I LOVED it by the end! Incredible acting by the two leads - I was right there in that scan with them. Even Dave was growing on me with his attempts to forge a bond with his son.

Reminds me of Mum quite strongly - understated, observational humour. Really hope the BBC commissions another series.

Daffodilsinthespring · 15/04/2026 15:49

It was the best thing on the tv for a very long time. The flash forward in the last one made me cry.
