Goodbye - Cosy Winter Nights

Ladymuckypuddle · 29/03/2026 13:39

Will start this by saying that I do like every season and I am grateful for each season I experience. However all that said, I am a little bit sad that the dark nights are over. I like closing the curtains at 4pm, putting on the candles and log fire all cosy with throws and pjs. Anyone else going to miss the Winter months?

Nope. Not at all. Its only cosy when you dont need to go out in it. Many of us have been battling relentless rain on our way back from work at 4pm having seen no daylight all day. Depressing as hell

Buscobel · 29/03/2026 13:41

No, not at all. Not one little bit!

Netcurtainnelly · 29/03/2026 13:42

Goodbye, good riddance.
Spring and Summer await 😍

Morepositivemum · 29/03/2026 13:42

Only thing I don’t like is trying to convince everyone they shouldn’t stay up because it’s brighter! They don’t listen when I tell them they need as much sleep all seasons!!

ChaToilLeam · 29/03/2026 13:42

No, I'm ready for a bit of daylight now! The sun's often on its way down by the time I finish work, so if I don't get out at lunchtime, I'll barely see the sun.

SilverPink · 29/03/2026 13:43

I like the winter months when I’m in, all cosy and warm, but hate them when I have to go out. I try and embrace all seasons really, like you, but I am looking forward to lighter evenings, not constantly being out in the dark. I like to sit in the garden with DD, reading and knitting in the summer months. Also love being away when the nights are lighter and we can do so much more stuff.

ExOptimist · 29/03/2026 13:52

I really don't like it when it's dark at 4pm. Winter is never full of crisp snow and blue skies, it's months of interminable rain and grey sky, especially this year. I love the lighter evenings, I like being able to go outside and garden after dinner, it's so peaceful, just me, the plants, the soil and birdsong.

Ladymuckypuddle · 29/03/2026 13:54

Just to add that I do go out to work and out in the evenings during Winter I don't completely hibernate. I do understand what you are saying about extra light and being able to do extra things outside in the evening. Sometimes in Summer months, I feel a pressure to go outside and make the most of it. Where's in the winter months I don't feel that pressure.

I love cosy winter nights by the fire in pjs but I'm looking forward to not having to light the fire and for the house to be naturally warm and bright. I'll still be in my pjs by 7 most evenings 😅

Lugol · 29/03/2026 14:01

I am an Autumn/Winter person so I really miss it when the mornings get lighter earlier.
I'm also virtually insomniac and up at 6am every day so resentful of missing an hours sleep when I have about four hours a year as it is!

I hate UK Spring/Summer where everyone power washes their patios for seven hours every time the sun peeps through the clouds or spends all day trimming an inch of grass from their perfectly manicured lawns (or maybe it's just my neighbours).
I don't mind stormy, rainy days.

It keeps 'the scum off the streets' as my elderly ex neighbour used to say.

damelza · 29/03/2026 14:11

The day is long enough for me up to say 6 o'clock. After that it's getting dinner ready and doing bits and pieces as most of us have to do. So it's only now and then that I can enjoy a peaceful hour or two in the garden after all that! And often the weather doesn't co-operate either. I'd rarely go out anywhere after dinner/tea (no kids to ferry around), so it's the garden or the house for me!

Weekends are different and I enjoy like most people a couple of days of good weather to get out and about, when we get a decent run of sun that is!

I have to agree with others that there is much more "pressure" to do things and prove that you have a wonderful outdoorsy kind of life and go here there and everywhere in the brighter nights. In Winter it's a lot easier to get away with vegetating and PJs. 😊

steelseries · 29/03/2026 14:12

Nope, won’t miss the dark one bit!

I’m a summer person all the way.

SocialSkills00 · 29/03/2026 14:20

Exactly.
I’m looking forward to walking home from school with DC in the sunshine then playing in the garden / paddling pool. Miles better than getting battered by wind and rain as we trudge up the road in the dark!

Lottapianos · 29/03/2026 14:20

I really do enjoy the Winter (except for Christmas) but I'm absolutely ready for a change of gear now. I look forward to every new season as it comes. I'll be very excited when Autumn rolls round again, but I'm not in any rush!

me. But the dark nights will be back again soon enough I guess.

Delatron · 29/03/2026 14:32

God no. I love it being light in the evenings again. You can do so much more.

I have zero interest in being ‘cosy’ on my sofa from 4pm!! I have other things I need/want to do that are far preferable in the light.

Disturbia81 · 29/03/2026 14:36

I love all months and the positives they bring, but do love the cosiness. You can still have that though! Nothing stopping you closing the curtains

Ladymuckypuddle · 29/03/2026 14:52

@Disturbia81 true and I could always treat myself to some fairy lights Grin

I love the cosy nights and the stormy days of winter. I don’t really enjoy sitting in my garden not my thing. So yeah I will miss the ber months

Exactly! Even in the heat of summer I’ll close curtains, fairy lights on, candles, big fan on instead of fire though 😆

Whosthetabbynow · 29/03/2026 15:34

Love the dark evenings. Love winter. Nothing we can do. Just have to crack on.

mycatwearsahat · 29/03/2026 15:36

No. We had 4+ months of them. But don’t worry, they’ll be back again before you know it.

GoldenCupsatHarvestTime · 29/03/2026 15:46

I dislike midsummer when it’s still light when I go to bed! But no I prefer the bright sunny mornings of spring.

PinkNailPolish2026 · 29/03/2026 15:53

Nope. I loathe the dark winter nights and I’ve been watching the lighter nights slowly return from mid January. I hate the cold and wearing layers or coats and much prefer the spring and summer months. It’s been horizontal rain and wind here today, I put my winter clothes away a week or so ago and brought my spring/summer stuff down from the attic 🥰

ShiftingSand · 29/03/2026 16:05

I’m with you on this. I don’t want bright light in the evenings, I want to get cosy and settled. I also like to get into a cold bed and warm up with a nice duvet, unlike in the summer when it’s difficult to get comfortable and fall asleep when it’s hot and sticky. Autumn and Spring are the better months for me but I know I’m in the minority.
