51 year old, menopausal, struggling to get over a sinus infection and feel like crap. Not on HRT (long story). Still don’t have my sense of smell back after a month, and still blowing out gunk (sorry) and feel like I am functioning on 80% energy levels. We go away next Wednesday for a special family holiday and I really need a quick fix!

Berrocca? A friend recommended it to me..I haven't picked it up yet to vouch for effectiveness.

Buy the supermarket versions, they’re the same but much cheaper! Also, magnesium 🙂.

A 1litre smoothie

Metatone Tonic. Orange bottle and not cheap but it never fails!

Louiesmomma1 · 28/03/2026 15:57

my advise is to invest in a neti pot from Amazon ! After a serious bout of sinusitis it was recommended by a friend and I have never looked back ! It’s staggering how ropey we can feel from an infection 🥴 hope you feel better soon x

TheCurious0range · 28/03/2026 16:00

Magnesium before bed helps me get to sleep quickly and I get more deep sleep according to my fit bit, b vitamin complex in the mornings and an electrolyte/hydration drink every day and a conscious effort to drink enough water and I actually feel better
I loved mushroom supplements made me feel twenty years younger and so switched on but have since been diagnosed with a heart condition and haven't been able to check with cardiology if it's ok, GP didn't know but bvits and magnesium fine, I also take iron but that's because I often err on the side of anaemic

HooseMidden · 28/03/2026 19:33

@TheCurious0range berrocca is a variant of an electrolyte/hydration drink? Are there others you recommend?

I have the Myprotein lemon and lime, mainly because it's periodically on offer in Tesco and with ice cold water it doesn't taste like play dough like a lot of them do

peonyfruit · 28/03/2026 19:42

Ashwaganda. It really takes away aches and pains. Thyme oil capsules could also help as they are antimicrobial and antibacterial.

WhamBamThankU · 28/03/2026 19:43

NMN really helps me with energy. It stopped me feeling like i need a nap on an afternoon!

Lobsterteapot · 28/03/2026 19:45

An E?

swoosher · 28/03/2026 20:27

Ah just come back to this thread to see all the suggestions. Thanks everyone, all great advice (might skip the E though 😂)

Ginger is your friend, try it with smoothies. Turmeric is good to if you can cope with it. I've recently found ginger preserve and it's delicious!!!

FootFlapperage · 29/03/2026 18:50

Also a good glug of tonic water perks me up

Out of interest what mushroom supplements did you use? I already take a selection of supplements but need all the help I can get!

I'm told cocaine also has a similar, er, uplifting effect.

They're not all the same though. Aldi's version has more or less the same levels of vitamins but another one I looked at (may have been Sainsbury's but not sure) had far lower levels.

No it's high doses of B vitamins and quite high dose of C.

Vitamin B12. See if you can buy it, or get it over the counter. I think your GP can also prescribe an injection. I have one every 3 months, but that's because I have deficiencies. I'm also interested in some kind of perk-me-up. Vitamin B12 over 3 months doesn't always last, perimenopause, exhausted, and feel like the walking dead.

Oh I get mine from Aldi and assumed they were all the same sorry 🙈.

GloiredeDijon · 29/03/2026 21:15

Nothing.
If you are worried that you are deficient in something such as iron, vitamins then you need this checked via a blood test and you can then take the correct treatment.
Otherwise you are just throwing your money into the void of the wellness industry.

So does speed, I’ve heard.

Florin · 29/03/2026 21:42

The innocent smoothie energy shots give you a real boost.

PersephoneParlormaid · 29/03/2026 21:43

Vitamin B complex for energy

VoltaireMittyDream · 29/03/2026 21:50

I have had nasty sinus problems all my
life. 4 things have helped a lot recently:

  1. NAC supplement thins out the nasal gunk & helps with energy levels and brain fog
  2. Using a neti pot (one of the squeezy plastic ones, not the fancy ceramic ones) worked much better than decongestant meds for clearing out the sinuses, and it is amazing to see how much crap comes out of my snout. I add a few drops of hydrogen peroxide to the solution and find that zaps any brewing bacterial infection.
  3. Using a dehumidifier at home has meant every cold doesn’t automatically turn into a sinus or chest infection - there is nothing quite like perpetually damp British air to fuck up my airways
  4. Iron supplements every day. I had low ferritin for years and was constantly ill and exhausted. I have more energy now I’m not constantly fighting off ever cold going.
