I'm alone in the house. I have been for the past week. Yesterday my house suddenly started smelling of bacon. I haven't cooked any bacon.

What smells of bacon? I keep getting a whaft of it. There are worse things to smell but I am a bit confused.

Hot dogs, Frazzles( crisps) smoked parprika do you mean smokey bacon smell? Sorry my suggestions are probably so weird 😅

Some burning woods can have a bacon-y smell. Could it be that?

Yeah, someone down the road having a bonfire, possibly involving ancient creosoted fence panels.

Is it coming from a neighbours house?

No neighbours close enough by that I could smell their bacon.

It could be wood. I had the fire lit last night. Or someone could be burning locally and it might have wafted over.

I'm vegetarian, but it doesn't bother me, it reminds me of when I used to go camping, especially on a sunny morning like this morning.

Have you had a cold recently? Since Covid I often get phantom smells after recovering from a cold. Usually offensive smells, like sewage, gas or smoke, but occasionally ‘savoury’ smells like meat.

Do ask someone to visit some time soon and see if they can smell it. It is indeed most likely to be something from your wood burning. However olfactory hallucinations (smelling something that isn't there) can be a warning sign for Stroke, Epilepsy and other unpleasant things that can happen in the brain so don't ignore it if you can't trace a physical reason.

Oh goodness. DH and the DC are back tomorrow and so we'll soon know. DS2 can smell bacon a mile off. Its the fastest way to get him out of his room and down to the kitchen.

Might you have COVID or did you have it about 2-4 months ago? Many people have changes to their sense of smell a few months after infection. It happened to me and I thought I was going mad!

I get this every few weeks, there’s a food factory a mile away and if the wind is right then the air smells strongly of bacon/frazzles/twiglets/marmite, it’s gorgeous!

always mentioned it as a kid when my mum had them in the house, and she would always think I was kidding but I honestly thought they did and still do!

I think overheating electrical things can smell a bit like bacon. I've known two different vacuums have a distinctly bacon like smell!
