Verbally abused by hotel call centre

I’m actually really shaken up. I’m currently in Antalya, solo trip at what I thought was a nice hotel. It’s 0245 here. Since 2200 I’ve had 4 calls asking me to turn my music down by the guest relations. I’m not playing any music or even have the tv on. Quiet as the proverbial mouse.

This last call at 0200 was by a male who started barking down the phone: do you’ speak German, do you speak English? Me being half asleep just mumbled : English, why? And he started yelling at me to turn off my music. I tried to explain that I’d been called earlier and I’m not playing music. And then he said ‘why don’t you fuck off!’ I was a bit startled and said What? And he replied like he was talking to a child: You called us so why don’t you fuck off you dumb ass! Then started literally shouting at me down the phone at which point I hung up.

Just spoken to Jet2 who were lovely and called the hotel reception and said they’ll get the rep to contact me in the morning, as understandably can’t really do much at this time of night/morning. But then she said, if it escalates then please call 112 for the police and I hadn’t even thought about that. So now I’m worried that some hotel bloke is going to try to get into my room- possibly escalating in my head too much now.

Heres the other thing though: there is no noise in this part of the hotel. It’s dead quiet. I went on the balcony and I can’t hear a thing from anywhere.

Im now wide awake but also really tired and I just want to go home. It’s just really mucked up my holiday and I was having such a nice time, just chilling and relaxing on my own. I’m not due to go until Sunday and I’m generally not an anxious person but this has really put the wind up me. It was the nasty way that he spoke to me that I haven’t experienced, even when I used to work on the 9’s for the police.

I don’t even know why I’m on here posting about it. Probably just to keep a record and maybe validation of my feelings I guess. I can’t call DH as he’s asleep at home and he can’t do anything from there.

That sounds scary! Is it definitely someone who works there? Just wondering if it’s some sick arsehole playing ‘a joke’?

Your feelings are totally valid. I know your husband is asleep but would you consider calling him anyway? Or do you think that might be worse because he can’t do anything from there?

Hope you are okay 🌷

@LiviaDrusillaAugusta No need to quote the entire OP

@LiviaDrusillaAugusta No need to quote the entire OP

It condenses the quote so what’s the problem? I am trying to help someone who sounds terrified and you come on and tell me not to quote the OP? Okay then…

In fact there are two lines of the OP showing.

Giraffehaver · 27/03/2026 00:19

God OP that sounds horrible. Hope things get sorted tomorrow but for now something heavy against your door and do something distracting like reading

Lukilols · 27/03/2026 00:21

That’s weird.

I wonder what happened? Have they called the right room number at the wrong hotel? Either way the man had no right to swear at you like that, but I doubt his call centre is anywhere near yours or he will come looking for you but I understand why you’d be anxious about it.

I would also speak to the hotel reception directly and explain what’s happened.

EmeraldRoulette · 27/03/2026 00:21

Oh my goodness, you poor thing

Definitely put something against the door

However, I do wonder if reception is actually unstaffed and some drunk guest has got hold of the phone?

Lukilols · 27/03/2026 00:23

If you ever go solo travelling again look into getting a mobile lock for your room that can slip under the door. They sell them on Amazon.

I typically don’t use them for fire safety/health reasons and I’ve normally felt comfortable in the hotels I’ve been in, but if I felt unsafe I would.

ClarkGriswold · 27/03/2026 00:26

@LiviaDrusillaAugusta just FYI you’re maybe seeing it differently on yours but it doesn’t condense the quote to 2 lines- I’m having to scroll the entire OP again that you have replied to. No offence intended.

GrimDamnFanjo · 27/03/2026 00:27

That just sounds so odd! Hopefully the rep can get to the bottom of it all.

That’s what I wondered. There are a lot of wankers who would find that funny

AlPaccacino · 27/03/2026 00:27

I’ve edged the chair under the door. It wouldn’t be a drunk guest as I’ve had 4 calls, first 3 were different women. The Jet2 rep said that she spoke to a male in reception and he hung up on her.

AlPaccacino · 27/03/2026 00:30

The entire OP is showing.

KeeleyJ · 27/03/2026 00:35

So sorry if this scares you any more than you already are - whatever you do, don't leave your room as it could be a member of staff with evil intentions trying to get you to head down to reception. Try and barricade the door as best you can and keep the lights on so your eyes are adjusted to the brightness.

It could be an innocent mistake e.g another room on the other side of the hotel calling you as their neighbour is blaring music and they've incorrectly guessed the room number or reception have made a mistake but I would be really worried too. Disappointing response from Jet2 as well, would think they would have an on call 'in person' rep. 24/7.

EmeraldRoulette · 27/03/2026 00:37

So there's lots of different people on reception?

Okay, I think wrong room is most likely but that's an appalling way for them to handle it.

By the way, I travel with a doorstop alarm - not sure if you can buy one where you are, but that might make you feel better for the rest of the stay.

AlPaccacino · 27/03/2026 00:42

The rep is on duty tomorrow morning but the 24 hr hotline is in the uk. I was originally going to go to reception then thought about it properly. I spoke to my son on Messenger and he said hotel master keys don’t work if the deadlock is on. He works for Hilton as night manager so hoping he’s right.
he actually sounded demented, like there was something definitely wrong with him to scream at me. And it was real screaming, not Sistine Chapel/mumsnet ‘screaming’

Hope you manage a little sleep OP. Are they calling your phone in the room and can you record them on your mobile if they call again? Appreciate it’s hard to think straight when you’re woken by a call at 2am but thinking it may be useful evidence if you want to push Jet2 to move you elsewhere tomorrow x

Friendlygingercat · 27/03/2026 01:00

Sorry to hear of your experience OP. It must have been very scary. When you see the travel rep I would insist on some kind of compensation and definitely put in a claim.

I have travelled solo all around Europe, USA and the middle east. I always used a door jammer - mine was a simple rubber wedge. Another trick I learned was to unplug the phone at night. In some countries the people who clean the rooms are young males. Some of them think solo woman are fair game. Ive had random males ring my room late at night so for that reason I always unplugged the phone unless I was expecting a call. Ive also had random males tap on my door at night. These men are not going to persist or make a noise for fear of disturbing other guests. However its something to bear in mind when you travel solo.

How does quoting the entire OP in the first reply help her more than not quoting it?

In the app it doesn’t condense the quote and the OP is probably using the app.

JulietteHasAGun · 27/03/2026 05:38

How odd. Hope you got some sleep and I don’t say this lightly he needs firing. Can you ask the rep to move you to a different hotel?

WileyWinifred · 27/03/2026 07:02

Hope you’re ok OP and were able to get some sleep.
