Verbally abused by hotel call centre

I’m actually really shaken up. I’m currently in Antalya, solo trip at what I thought was a nice hotel. It’s 0245 here. Since 2200 I’ve had 4 calls asking me to turn my music down by the guest relations. I’m not playing any music or even have the tv on. Quiet as the proverbial mouse.

This last call at 0200 was by a male who started barking down the phone: do you’ speak German, do you speak English? Me being half asleep just mumbled : English, why? And he started yelling at me to turn off my music. I tried to explain that I’d been called earlier and I’m not playing music. And then he said ‘why don’t you fuck off!’ I was a bit startled and said What? And he replied like he was talking to a child: You called us so why don’t you fuck off you dumb ass! Then started literally shouting at me down the phone at which point I hung up.

Just spoken to Jet2 who were lovely and called the hotel reception and said they’ll get the rep to contact me in the morning, as understandably can’t really do much at this time of night/morning. But then she said, if it escalates then please call 112 for the police and I hadn’t even thought about that. So now I’m worried that some hotel bloke is going to try to get into my room- possibly escalating in my head too much now.

Heres the other thing though: there is no noise in this part of the hotel. It’s dead quiet. I went on the balcony and I can’t hear a thing from anywhere.

Im now wide awake but also really tired and I just want to go home. It’s just really mucked up my holiday and I was having such a nice time, just chilling and relaxing on my own. I’m not due to go until Sunday and I’m generally not an anxious person but this has really put the wind up me. It was the nasty way that he spoke to me that I haven’t experienced, even when I used to work on the 9’s for the police.

I don’t even know why I’m on here posting about it. Probably just to keep a record and maybe validation of my feelings I guess. I can’t call DH as he’s asleep at home and he can’t do anything from there.

I’m ok. Had a call from cr this morning and they are offering me a free dinner in their à la carte. Really? Apologised for technical issues. Not the totally psychotic bloke apart from to say he’s been with them for 3 years. Just having a latte whilst the Jet2 rep finishes with his current customer and then onto the manager.

A free dinner doesn’t really make it ok. A woman on her own should feel safe and not be abused like this. Jet2 have booked you into this hotel they have a responsibility to you. Wait until you are home to write reviews on the hotel and holiday and warm other sole female travellers

BubblesMacgee · 27/03/2026 09:09

OP sorry that you have had to deal with this and hoping that Jet2 rep gets this sorted to your satisfaction and comes down hard on the hotel management to deal with the perpetrator. Well done for staying put in your room and getting some very good advice from your lovely son. I also like to travel alone and have experienced some odd issues from predatory male hotel staff in the past - it has inevitably happened in the wee small hours and felt very isolating. I always now take a rubber door wedge with me and secure the room from the inside if anything kicks off, I also have an old fashioned dictaphone which I got for a couple of quid on a local selling page which has proved very useful for recording conversations and telephone calls to prove where there has been a problem. It shouldn't be an issue for a woman to travel solo, except sometimes and for some individuals it is, so go prepared. Enjoy the rest of your holiday and don't let this idiot spoil anything for you.

The entire OP is showing.

Not for me it's not. It's 2 lines.

It depends if you are on the app or a web browser.

Flowers wine free dinner and late checkout.
I’ll do a shitty trip advisor when I get home. Apparently it was a room to room call from a drunk guest. They showed me the call logs. Technical issues my arse. Bought a wedge from the Migros supermarket today.

If they’ve shown you call logs and it was another guest then that’s not their fault and it sounds like they are doing quite a few things to apologise.

Who cares? You’re creating even more posts to scroll past by going on about it 😂

Well if it was another guest then it's not entirely the hotel's fault. But I wonder why they didn't speak to that guest or block his phone?

Anonanonanonagain · 27/03/2026 11:36

Sounds scary op but I guess they cant help if another guest made the calls. Take the phone off the hook for the rest of the trip and/or ask to be moved to a different room.

AlPaccacino · 27/03/2026 12:32

Apparently only a few rooms still have this capability now. The whole phone system is being overhauled after similar episodes last year. So why not the whole hotel? Just had another incident where the doorbell was being rung and saw someone vanishing around the corner. I just can’t be arsed now. Totally shattered and need a nap before the ‘free dinner’ tonight.

There’s no need for a shitty review when it’s not the staff who are at fault, they’ve shown you what happened and gave you a very good apology.

It's absolutely justified. Just because the caller wasn't the staff member who did it, doesn't mean the hotel isn't at fault. Clearly their systems mean it's open to abuse and the OP shouldn't have to suffer because of it.

ginasevern · 27/03/2026 13:33

@Berlinlover "The entire OP is showing."

Which is obviously way more important than a frightened woman looking for support. Jeez.

EmeraldRoulette · 27/03/2026 16:25

@AlPaccacino oh my goodness, what a nightmare

I'm amazed that in 2026 anyone is still running a system where guests can phone room to room.

I actually don't think that's much of an apology but I've had to do a fair bit of travelling on my own - hate it - and while I haven't had anything like this, I've had a couple of incidents where it is extremely obvious that hotels don't really give a crap what happens. And those kind of standards just get lower and lower as people get less human.

have they been able to tell you if that person is still in the hotel? Has that group been spoken to? It sounds like a group.

honestly, I think they ought to be thrown out. But that's never going to happen.

are you staying? Do you want to stay in another room? The vanishing person that you saw concerns me as well.

JustLookingThanks · 27/03/2026 18:01

So sorry this is happening to you. A new room might give you some peace incase someone phones again.

I didn’t know this. I might stop using the app then as it drives me nuts that people quite the OP.

It would probably be less irritating if you could only see the first couple of lines.
