I’m travelling alone. Mid 50s. Single. Adult kids could not care less!

but I’m so excited now my annual leave has begun!

I’ve booked a lounge at the airport and preordered duty free. I’m flying Qantas PE from LHR - picked up some jargon.

dont think I’ve missed anything but who knows

sooooo excited!!!!

That is exciting! Where are you going in Australia?

FannyCradocksDoughnut · 26/03/2026 17:21

Bon Voyage!

Everybodysinthehousetonight · 26/03/2026 17:21

Have fun! Which part?

EyeLevelStick · 26/03/2026 17:22

Well I’m excited for you. How long are you going for? Whereabouts are you staying?

I’m hopefully going in September. 🦘🦘🦘

Willowskyblue · 26/03/2026 17:22

I’m excited for you. I love flying long haul solo - having someone bring you food and drink and having entertainment on tap! One top tip - get some dioralyte and have one sachet on take off, one half way though and one before arrival. It really helps with avoiding dehydration and helps with the jet lag. Have fun!

ThePoshUns · 26/03/2026 17:23

How exciting! Have a fantastic time.

SevenKingsMustDie · 26/03/2026 17:23

Amazing! I was getting ready to go this time last year!

I went to Sydney -> Uluru -> Cairns ❤️

Have an amazing trip!

Carriemac · 26/03/2026 18:14

Amazing ! It’s a fantastic country we went this time last year and the weather was perfect

AnotherExpatKiwi · 26/03/2026 18:17

Have a super time! Adelaide is my favourite city in Aus. Has some nice beaches and the names on the stations from New Brighton into the city always made me smile.

LankylegsFromOz · 26/03/2026 18:21

I'm excited for you!

It's a perfect time to come, not too hot but you can still swim at the beach (depending obviously where you're going).

And... no kids to stress over flying long haul. Double win!

Have fun!

Heyhelga · 26/03/2026 18:26

Have an amazing time. We went last year to Melbourne-Cairns-Gold Coast-Sydney and we had a great time.

Flatinbed · 26/03/2026 18:26

Have a great time. It is fantastic country.

Tellmeagain · 26/03/2026 18:33

Queenage · 26/03/2026 18:46

so jel. I went on my own to Perth and fell in love with the place. I’m so keen to return. Enjoy every minute

Mimilamore · 26/03/2026 19:02

Very exciting and well done for going solo… where are you going to? I went to NSW and still relive it!! Nobody here was much interested and I couldn’t really share it …

reversegear · 26/03/2026 19:05

Oh wow can you keep the thread going so I can virtually come with you!! How exciting- I’d love to do this 🥰

echt · 26/03/2026 20:25

Have the best of times. Do get back to us and tell us where you're going.
Here in Melbourne it's a cold and windy 16, but will be back in the late 20s by mid-week. I'm thinking layers.Grin

superexcitedaboutit · 26/03/2026 20:38

Oh my god thank you all!! I’m staying with my cousin and her family in Perth. We’re spending Easter at her brothers ranch and then the week after in Sydney for a girls trip. Just can’t wait to see her life and relaxxxxxxxx

Ive been to Aus six times solo and I absolutely loved it, based myself in Brisbane and flew out to different places from there...miss it a lot

Vickyvogue25 · 26/03/2026 20:56

I flew alone to Sydney via Singapore in summer of 23, age 60. We had spent time in Singapore for my 60th a few months earlier, hence me breaking the journey there and staying in same hotel, knowing the subway etc.

I was meeting my daughter in Sydney for the women’s football World Cup (she was out there travelling and flew back with me).

I travelled from Cheshire to Heathrow to fly, and had a few minor mishaps on that day (starting with leaving my phone at home as hubby drove me to railway station 🤣🤣, my son brought it to me) but after that it was plain sailing.

I’ve always been independent but when booking the footie tix the previous autumn, and my DD said “You coming too mum?”, I said “I can’t fly to Sydney alone 😲”. But I did, and now know that if wanted to travel alone in the future, I could cope.

@superexcitedaboutit Have a fabulous trip, I’m well jealous, definitely will go back again with DH, when we are both retired.

Vickyvogue25 · 26/03/2026 21:04

One of DH’s relatives - M - had an auntie who emigrated to Brisbane area in the 60s. M’s mum flew out alone to visit in the 70s, having barely left UK before, and it was a much longer journey then!

As M said to me in 2023, if her mum managed the journey alone back in the 70s, anyone can!

Sounds wonderful! But they won't call it a ranch! It will be a farm or if it's really big a station! 😁

Hopefully she takes you outside of Perth, maybe down south to Busselton and the Margaret River.

Queenage · 26/03/2026 21:16

And Fremantle, you can go there to that fantastic cocktail bar that they throw peanut shells in the floor. Sad as I am, it was a highlight 🤣🥂🤣🥂

HandfulOfMoths · 27/03/2026 20:56

That sounds like a brilliant trip, I’m quite envious. Enjoy, I loved Australia when I went 20 odd years ago and would love to go back.
