How many pairs of knickers

A light hearted (but actually super serious!) thread.

You're going on a 7 night European holiday.
Mostly sightseeing, walking about, not overly strenuous. Likely go to the gym every other morning.
Will go out of an evening to eat and few drinks.
Weather not warm enough in all likely for handwashing.
How many pairs of knickers are you taking?

Me...10..i think. Literally just packing.

If you don’t think you can hand wash, 10 sounds about right. A couple of gym pairs, a few daytime one and some more for the evening (I’d always shower/change before going out for the evening) and a couple of ‘panic pairs’. However, I do think hand washed knickers would dry overnight on a towel warmer even if it’s not turned on.

I always wash undies as I go on holiday. Never fancy carrying back 10/20 pairs of dirty pants that might get handled at airport security!

So maybe 6/7? They always dry in accommodation bathroom imo each day regardless of outside temperature.

Bring as many as you want. You can get great microfibre very light but comfortable ones in M+S that you can rinse out and they dry overnight or even quicker. That's what I do usually, and remember to bring a peg or two!

Clefable · 26/03/2026 14:55

12-14. I like to budget double really. You don’t want to run out of pants or have daytime showers etc and have to put in dirty pants! Plus three gym visits is three pair of pants on their own. If I am planning exercise I add extra pants just for that.

Cyclistmumgrandma · 26/03/2026 14:57

Around 6 and I hand wash and dry as I go.

Arlanymor · 26/03/2026 14:57

14 - two per day.

Yes, I’d take 2 per day, just to be on the safe side!

CrushingOnRubies · 26/03/2026 15:07

16 pairs. 2 per a day and I always like to have a couple spare in case of emergency

zingally · 26/03/2026 15:08

My general rule is "how every many days you'll be away for, plus an extra 3 per week, plus one."
So that's 11 pairs for a 7 night holiday, and 21 for a 14 nighter.

If it was guaranteed sun and we were staying in one accommodation I'd definitely take less as can wash and dry within hours.

I kid you not, when I did a stage of the Camino, I pinned my newly washed knickers to my backpack to dry while walking. The weather wasn't great, but they dried fine! I certainly announced my presence that way ha ha, but packing for that was a challenge, hence the rucksack drying method. 😊

hahabahbag · 26/03/2026 15:21

I carry 7 pairs plus handwashing soap leaves whenever we travel (for more than 3 days) but we are usually on the motorbike do we are very restricted for luggage. Top tip for drying in hotel rooms is to get a pillowcase, put your wet clothes in (not too much at a time) and blow hot air from the hairdryer whilst jiggling the pillow case. Honesty it works well, especially thermal socks that just wouldn’t dry in 24 hours and we were moving on.

user2848502016 · 26/03/2026 15:47

14 (yes I do wear them at night and it’s a fresh pair)

Arlanymor · 26/03/2026 15:47

I'm not going to wash my knickers on a 7-day holiday unless I was backpacking in the Himalayas. I'm on holiday - including from doing my laundry!

Caspianberg · 26/03/2026 15:55

I don’t even own 21 pairs pants!

Piemam · 26/03/2026 16:23
  1. Fresh each day and night, plus extras for getting dressed again in evening, if post-swim or showering and so on.

Squirrelchops1 · 26/03/2026 17:04

21 is the highest so far.....any more?

OP posts:
ThatLimeBiscuit · 26/03/2026 17:08

Probably 16 pairs, but that does seem a lot when written down 🤣

GoldMoon · 26/03/2026 17:08

I took 4 pairs for an overnighter recently .
I'd take more than 10 , maybe 14/15 .

damelza · 26/03/2026 17:11

So do you all take home a bag of smelly knickers in your suitcase, sometimes 21 of the things? Ugh, I'd rather die than risk my case being searched at customs with so many dirty parachutes inside.

Wash n go. Bring enough for as many days as you are comfortable with, but always wash them before packing, or throw any tatty ones away. Come on are standards slipping or what here FGS! Think of your reputation.

Blorengia · 26/03/2026 17:16

10 is plenty. If you start getting low on reserves a quick handwash and they'll be dry in the sun in a couple of hours.
