I left some Chinese food on the counter top last night as forgot to put it in the fridge. It’s prawn dish. It’s chilly here overnight and I put it in the fridge first thing this morning. Would you eat it tonight?

No. Prawns are one of the very worst sources of food poisoning.

loislovesstewie · 22/03/2026 19:54

No. Definitely not. ( but I don't eat prawns anyway)

Yes if it was last night because it was very very cold here anyway.

On a warmer night - no.

ChoosingMyOwnRandomUsername · 22/03/2026 20:42

Absolutely not.

You can easily leave something at room temperature for an hour and then put it in the fridge. It doesn’t have to be fully cooled

It does if you don't want to bring the temperature of all the other food in your fridge up!

It does if you don't want to bring the temperature of all the other food in your fridge up!

If you leave something on the side for 60 mins to cool it won’t raise the internal temperature of your fridge. If you put it in when it’s just cooked and boiling hot then yes it will raise the temperature

curious79 · 22/03/2026 21:38

Yes, every time

Purplecatshopaholic · 22/03/2026 22:19

Interesting, a few people who are willing to do it, and loads more No Ways than I expected. Having decided just to go for it, I feel totally fine - for now. I will try and remember to come back and report my findings for the MN record, lol.

I wouldn't. That’s a long time to be at room temperature.

binnibonnieboo · 22/03/2026 22:27

No way

greenteaandlimes · 22/03/2026 22:36

likelysuspect · 22/03/2026 22:47

Yes Id eat it. It being prawns would make no odds, it would be fine.

Kickinthenostalgia · 22/03/2026 22:51

Not a chance… I wouldn’t eat any food left out over night…. I have a fear of being sick so that’s an absolute no from me…

Gowlett · 22/03/2026 22:54

I’d fish out the prawns, and eat the rest…

LiveLuvLaugh · 22/03/2026 22:57

No - these not much I won’t eat but I would never keeps prawns to have as leftovers, let alone not fridged immediately.

TheeNotoriousPIG · 22/03/2026 23:31

Yes, but I clearly have no standards 😁

I mean, I'm not dead yet, so I assume that's a good sign.

Travelfairy · 22/03/2026 23:54

No way

Tootiredcantsleep · 23/03/2026 00:20

Only if I wanted to lost half a stone quickly, and in the most unpleasant of ways. 😬

nocoolnamesleft · 23/03/2026 00:21

Only if I desperately wanted to lose weight in a hurry.

ThatPearlkitty · 23/03/2026 00:22

not prawns, but in general eg curry then yes

Classy59 · 23/03/2026 00:50

Are you crazy!

marmaladejam1 · 23/03/2026 01:02

No , as my second child was born 6 weeks early after I ate prawns from a buffet and became violently ill ( bad decision but I was hungry). It had obviously been out for ages.In my defence I didn't know that as we had just arrived.
