Would you eat prawn Chinese takeaway left out overnight then chilled?

I left some Chinese food on the counter top last night as forgot to put it in the fridge. It’s prawn dish. It’s chilly here overnight and I put it in the fridge first thing this morning. Would you eat it tonight?

Will the OP tease us as to her fate by not returning…

You must not eat ANY chilled food that has been at room temperature for more than 60 mins! Look it up, it’s called the food danger zone. I also think you need to look up Heat Resistant Bacteria! 🦠

You know it's not a 100% certain death sentence 😂

I've eaten left overs my whole life, still alive and planning to carry on doing so for the foreseeable

TinyMouseTheatre · 22/03/2026 18:35

I’m normally very relaxed too but not with prawns, so it’s a no from me.

Very little point asking on MN.
Lots of the posters on here are proud of the fact they’ll eat any minging old thing that’s been left out or gone past it’s use by date as long as it “smells and looks ok” because they’ve always done it and haven’t yet died.
My dad was like this until he actually got food poisoning. He’s a lot less cavalier about it now.

myotherscarsaskoda · 22/03/2026 18:37

Nope !

ThePoshUns · 22/03/2026 18:37

no way and I’m quite laissez faire about such things

Vodkamartini3olives · 22/03/2026 18:45

I would and have done many times. I'd probably eat it cold or nuke it.

Manicmondayss · 22/03/2026 18:49

Yes. I’ve never had the shits from it

chellewillnotbebeaten · 22/03/2026 18:51

Not prawns, hell no! Anything else I’d happily eat cold for breakfast but not prawns x

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 22/03/2026 18:58

Not me, but I wouldn't eat a prawn dish if it was put in front of me freshly made.

I'm not allergic to prawns but they look like pink wood-lice with their legs pulled off, which I find a bit off-putting.

It's probably best I don't even talk about crab or lobster dishes...

Oh don't be silly, at home how does one get things cold enough for the fridge from piping hot within 60 minutes?

You can easily leave something at room temperature for an hour and then put it in the fridge. It doesn’t have to be fully cooled

GeorgeMichaelsCat · 22/03/2026 19:03

No

Pollqueen · 22/03/2026 19:05

Most likely and did so last weekend with rice and prawn balls. Obviously didn't kill me

SerenitySeeker4 · 22/03/2026 19:05

Nope.

Golly, surprised it’s so adamant. I’m eating them right now. Will let you how I get on, lol..

Get plenty of toilet paper and a sock bowl. Bottled water by the bed. About three days worth.

starballoons · 22/03/2026 19:12

Yes - I actually did this on Saturday with leftover from Friday. Made sure it was heated well 🤷‍♀️

4 hours.

You know those cages of chilled foods in supermarkets are often out for more than hour especially when it’s busy ( like Christmas when theres lots of prawns about…)

Schoolchoicesucks · 22/03/2026 19:21

I'd risk it with some things, but not prawns and not rice from a takeaway. Good luck OP.

dunroamingfornow · 22/03/2026 19:22

Depends if I fancied a week off work and had a stone to lose

letshearitforDavid · 22/03/2026 19:23

I wouldn’t eat them even if they had been in the fridge never mind left out.

ShetlandishMum · 22/03/2026 19:27

No. Bin.

CarterBeatsTheDevil · 22/03/2026 19:28

I would, but I have the digestive system of an ox and wouldn't even think about it. I would say that if you need to ask Mumsnet you're probably better off binning it!

redboxer321 · 22/03/2026 19:29

Yes. But only if I absolutely needed to have food poisoning for some reason.
To be fair, I wouldn't fancy it freshly delivered.

Comtesse · 22/03/2026 19:34

I am quite gung ho about food hygiene (eg use by dates, reheating) but I would probably chuck that out now because a) seafood and b) I trust my own standards but it’s always a bit unknown with takeaways.

MarmaladeSandwich7 · 22/03/2026 19:35

No way!!
