Good Morning Mumsnet! What are you all up to today?

I'm just drinking my first cuppa of the day - trying out the conservatory this morning, looking out on the garden. I think the dining table may still be my spot of choice 🤔. We'll see when we eventually pick a sofa! But this will be nice for the summer.

The washer's on, but I haven't washed up from yesterday yet. So I'll tackle the pots when I get up for my tablets, then sort my tablets for the coming week, and a second load of washing since I seem to have miles of line here.

Today's plan here is much the same as yesterday - sort through the last of the boxes re-box in matching boxes what's being kept (easier to stack) and sort the rest into various bins/tip. We discovered yesterday that the loft space is unsafe to use so I need to consider some sort of small shed maybe. I'm thinking something like one of those plastic bike lock ups might be enough 🤔.

I also have a box of Easter crafty things, acquired during various sales over the years. That's going in my work whatsapp - someone will collect it, I'm sure.

The only thing left after that is to pull out the contents of the understairs cupboard I wanted to empty last week and make that more useable for the time being.

Dd2's going to carry on with her things in the girls' room. She has a small box of rubbish to come down, and I think a small suitcase and box left to unpack. I'm not quite decided whether to do any of dd1's or leave them for her.

Tea will be the leftovers from last night's Chinese takeaway, followed by showers, and an hour sewing ends into my finished baby gift blanket. Then an early night, ready for the last week of term 🥳. Hopefully we can start to decorate downstairs over the Easter hols.

What about all of you? 🙂

Good morning @lucysmam! You’re so good at executive functioning and I’m in awe of you getting everything unpacked so quickly.

I’m currently on a bus to Glasgow to reunite with a Canadian friend I haven’t seen in two years. I can’t wait to hug and smoosh the heck out of her.

Songlines · 22/03/2026 09:16

Meal in the slow cooker to use up fridge contents before going away.
Beds to be stripped and changed, as above.

Garden waste from yesterday bagged up and ready to go in the green bin.

Parcel to be returned to M&S.

Something to be picked up from local charity group.

Finish sorting out the freezer after defrosting it yesterday.

Go through kitchen cupboards and sort stuff to donate to food bank.

Deliver soft plastics to recycling.

I'm exhausted just thinking about it!

WeepingAngelInTheTardis · 22/03/2026 09:18

You sound so organised! I need to put downstairs back together today, we recarpeted all of upstairs & the stairs in one go this week and had to move everything downstairs, the rooms upstairs are done finally (minus our clothes need to buy a new wardrobe as ours broke! 🙈) but now to declutter downstairs and get it back in order. Want to cut the grass today and take advantage while it’s dry outside and have a mountain of laundry to do all rather unexciting I’m afraid but needs must.

Cocotok · 22/03/2026 09:23

Good morning @lucysmam. I’m glad you have found a new home, you sound on top of the unpacking, hope you all settle in soon.

Gorgeous weather here today. Yesterday we spent the day in the countryside and had a nice pub lunch.

I was up with the birds today, my Sunday jobs are all done including the ironing for the week, various sports bag’s packed for the dc and a deep clean of the bathroom.

no real plans but need to pop to a supermarket for the packed lunch shop and hopefully a trip to the park or a walk somewhere ☀️.

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 22/03/2026 09:23

Good morning lucysmam and others. It'll take a while to get used to your new space.
Yesterday was my housework and washing day. So today will be quiet. I picked up my new car on Thursday, so I'm still getting used to it. I'm trying to motivate myself to go to the garden centre for a new brush and shears to start tidying the garden. I suspect that's why I am prevaricating. Dinner will be chicken curry and apple sponge or crumble. Enjoy your day all

PenelopeAsks · 22/03/2026 09:24

Packing. We are off for a few days of sun tomorrow morning. Yay!

ByLemonFish · 22/03/2026 09:26

I really wanted to spend the day tidying the garden but in bed with kidney infection, started antibiotics yesterday

gingercat02 · 22/03/2026 09:27

Sounds like the settling in is going well @lucysmam
My day in the garden was very satisfying. It looks so much better, even if the grass was cut on the highest settling. I haven't tackled the bed under the apple tree, it's full of spring bulbs and wild flowers so it's always a difficult one.
I discovered I had no potting compost so no seeds done. I might do that this afternoon.
I'm off to my class, DH and DS are off to the Tyne Wear Derby at lunchtime so I have leftover chinese for lunch.
Roast beef for dinner, we don't often do a roast but I just fancied one when I did the shopping order 😋
Have a lovely Sunday all.

Girlintheframe · 22/03/2026 09:34

Morning all

DH and I just back from a run. Sitting in bed having coffee with pup now. I’ve got an essay to start today and DH will walk said pup. Dinner to sort for tonight and a load of washing to do. Maybe get some chill time and a movie this afternoon.

Tiddlywinks63 · 22/03/2026 09:41

Good morning @lucysmam and Co, I totally forgot to look for you yesterday 🫣.
It’s a glorIously sunny morning here, we were out very early with the dogs, no one else around and wonderful birdsong everywhere.
I have changed the bed, second load of washing on, cleaned through upstairs and now I need another coffee ☕️.
The dogs are snoozing, tiddler will join me in my Shed later while I do some more embroidery. It’s my favourite pastime at the moment, I’m too breathless to do much but at least I can slow stitch while listening to podcasts or an audiobook.
I have absolutely no idea what we’re eating today, I will have to look in the freezer or it’s jacket potatoes and……..
Enjoy the sunshine 🌻

lucysmam · 22/03/2026 09:43

@JingsMahBucket thanks! My aim is to decorate the conservatory, and buy some things to make it pretty, over the Easter hols. I've seen an Ikea hack I'd like to try for a booze cabinet for in here. Hence the plan being to clear and clean it as much as possible. If I didn't have a clear aim, it'd all go to pot & overwhelm me!

3rd baby arriving soon so just doing some cleaning, tidying and decluttering. Never seems to end!! Incrediblely uncomfortable now. Very much wanting it to be over. Looking forward today to some quiet time if l can

lucysmam · 22/03/2026 09:46

@LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand did your grandson have a go in your new car? I used to love sitting on my dad's knee to "drive" a new car down the street 🤣.

Speaking of my dad, he's popping by too - he offered to collect cat litter to save me a trip & an uber.

Morning morning

We remain without either oven, had appliance engineer round Friday after I had emailed in detail the issue, but he still needed to see it and has ordered parts, Tuesday apparently so no roast, no nothing fun to eat.

I might make a fruit salad for fibre

They want Chinese takeaway
I want spinach filo pie I make

there is only one compromise here

at least no nagging about revision today

I have started grinding coffee beans for morning coffee and they are so much nicer plus you get that lovely coffee smell before it starts brewing so there’s that I guess

H has been off this week we have done many jobs today is a day to do little and sulk about the oven

He did have a go! He sat in the driver's seat at my behest, then turned the steering wheel. That made him happy. Dgs1 hasn't seen it yet, but it's his favourite colour - red- so that'll make him happy.

Jingsmabucket, enjoy your catch up in Glasgow. I'm now dressed and heading to the garden centre.

lucysmam · 22/03/2026 09:49

Aw @BritishDesiGirl I hope baby arrives safely and you're more comfortable soon 💐.

Good morning @lucysmam and everyone.

Re: unpacking DD1s stuff - if you are happy to do it, I would ask her first if she would like you to do it. She might prefer to do it herself. If you don't really want to do it then leave it for her. It sounds as if you are settling in, which is good.

Our Morrison's delivery yesterday was even worse than I thought it was going to be. I had ordered 2 bags of beansprouts. These are on the website as having 2+ days life. One arrived completely split open, with the contents strewn all over the rest of the shopping. The other was use by yesterday (the day of delivery). So - instead of my having a delicious and healthy stir fry 2 days running, we ended up BOTH having stir fry last night. I will make Mr Dilemma his cauliflower cheese for this evening, and I will probably have leeks in cheese sauce. Not quite as healthy as stir fry, but I use skimmed milk (Arla BOB, which actually tastes like semi-skimmed, I'm not a masochist) and reduced fat cheese, so it could be worse. We will have that with left over boiled gammon and either mashed potatoes or crusty bake-at-home bread (my preference.

I was going to have a shower first thing, but Mr Dilemma has put a wash on already so I will have to wait for that to finish. I'm a little concerned about which wash he has put on... as I had already earmarked a delicate wash to go on - with our swimsuits - and I have a couple of other things to go in which hadn't yet reached the wash basket. A discussion has been had.....

So - my plan for today is to have a shower, prepare the vegetables and the cheese sauce for tonight's meal, do some Tai Chi walking ( which is neither Tai Chi nor walking) and wrap up my lovely step-daughter's birthday present. We're actually going to see her on her birthday this year, which is really nice. I have some beautiful gold/bronze patterned paper and some gorgeous bronze satin wide ribbon, so it should look special. Mr Dilemma has also reminded me of the imminence of Easter, so I need to order Easter Eggs for far-away daughter and grandson, to be delivered direct. I have actually already bought them Easter eggs, but I forgot I wasn't going to see them until after Easter. Mr Dilemma and I have already agreed not to buy each other Easter eggs this year. I'm desperately trying (and failing) to lose weight and his HbA1c blood levels had risen considerably at his last blood test (for diabetes) which actually frightened him enough to do something about it. I have been nagging him for years about his liking for full-sugar fizzy drinks and mint imperials, and he has finally switched to coke zero and sugar-free sweets. He might well end up eating the Easter eggs though.

On another note - did anyone see BGT last night? My sister and my niece are both in the Farmer's Choir, which got a golden buzzer from Amanda Holden. I'm so SO proud of them!

It's another essay from me this morning... have a lovely day everyone - or at least as good a day as possible.

lucysmam · 22/03/2026 09:59

@DilemmaDelilah see, I don't mind unpacking dd1's stuff for her...but with her being away at uni, there's a lot of stuff she hasn't touched when here, or missed when there. And, I was hoping for a fairly substantial declutter, as we unpack. Which I've been doing. And dd2 is going to do hers when she's unpacked. So, I don't know whether to do it, or leave it and tell her that she's not to unpack/put away unwanted items 🤔.

Actually, I'll speak to her later on, and see what she says. Rather than guessing!

Morning!
Cleaning, tidying and decluttering today.
May do some gardening.
And the sausage dog needs walking when he wakes up from his second nap of the day.
@lucysmam there's a couple of decent ikea hack pages on Facebook if you didn't already know.

FeelingSadToday1 · 22/03/2026 10:44

I had a long and emotionally draining day at work yesterday and I’ve woken up exhausted. I had planned to potter in the garden today (and may still do) but right now I am watching the TV and trying to hydrate.

Could do with running the vacuum round and cleaning the bathroom too. I have some laundry to put away and Tesco shop is coming this afternoon.

Maybe I’ll just go to the garden centre 😬

Rainbow1235 · 22/03/2026 11:13

Thislittlekitten · 22/03/2026 11:36

Good Morning Sunday Crew

I’ve been awake for a few hours. Been very lazy though. DH brought up breakfast in bed and we are still here cuddling cats and playing with the dog and generally being lazy.

About to get up soon. Showers then DS should be home. I’ll walk DDog and DH will drop DD off at club then shopping.

Today I need to start an essay and I feel worried about it. Just need to get started I think.

Something light on my stomach for tea tonight. Curry last night was good but spicy.

Usual uniforms and lunches to make later and work out some logistics of dropping children to events this week needed.

Peridot1 · 22/03/2026 11:50

Good morning @lucysmam and everyone.

Been up since about 8.30. Had tea and did my puzzles and then had a chat with my friend in Sydney. Will never not appreciate free internet calls!

DS had put his washing outside his bedroom last night as asked so I’ve done one lot and second lot is on.

Went to empty dishwasher and realised I hadn’t put it on last night. Managed to get lots more in and it’s now on.

DH has made the Ragu this morning for lasagna for dinner.

I went to the garden centre yesterday and but some plants so hoping to plant them today. I bought too many large grasses for one bed so need to decide where to put the others. Will consult ChatGpt who has done most of the design so far!

Also want to finish weeding the last few pots on the patio and cut the grass by the washing line. Which I was supposed to do yesterday.

Then hopefully an hour reading. Aforementioned lasagna for dinner with garlic bread and salad. A few glasses of wine. Tv and bed.

DisconnectedDrainpipe · 22/03/2026 11:53

On a drive out to the coast. Love our Sunday drives out. Its only a 2 hour drive and blows the cobwebs away. Let the dog have a run and then it's fish and chips.😋.

MoreIcedLattePlease · 22/03/2026 11:55

Glad you’ve found your spot, @lucysmam!

DH and I are currently driving home from a cheeky weekend away. Had a lovely day mooching and then at the pub last night, then a very nice breakfast and swim this morning.

When we get home we need to put fresh bedding on our bed, sort out ironing for DCs uniforms, make lunches for tomorrow etc. I will also do the food shop and some prep for work next week.

We are having pie for dinner, trying a new one and I’m oddly looking forward to it! Hope everybody else is enjoying this beautiful weather.
