further investigation required. poke it, sniff it or lick it

Maybe it is Donald Trumps brain matter infiltrating the UK sewage system?

It actually looks like some Chinese vegetables that we have grown in the garden before and I can't for my life remember what they are called. I will have to go and ask dp.

suki1964 · 21/03/2026 21:37

Looks to me to be hot meat fat deposits chucked into cold water

Igneococcus · 21/03/2026 21:40

Chinese artichockes, Stachys affinis, that is what they remind me of.

Stick it in a sandwich with a good squirt of mayo. It’s the only sensible option

Aww, so cute! ☺️
Cute not Weird.

lol sorry, I posted, then went out and was much longer than expected, and had presumed photo had attached!! Will try again.

There was a v similar thread and photo a few years ago. It’s a weird water/detergent/bacteria reaction. Perfectly harmless but does look bizarre.

begonefoulclutter · 21/03/2026 23:13

Ugh.

And now you've gone and released them into the wild... 😂

They look like bits of deep-fried batter. Has anyone being eating/making tempura, or fish and chips or something?

Handrearedmagpie · 22/03/2026 01:08

Mystery may have been solved! After telling my mum about it. We remembered she made ds dinner yesterday as I was home late, she made mince but drained the fat off it and poured it into the sink - am thinking some of it may have landed in Basin and made weird stringy gloopy lumps?
There's far too much of it to be Donald trump's brain matter!

Humunculi

Best answer!! 😂

Enrichetta · 22/03/2026 03:30

Goodness, tell your MIL not to pour fat down the sink!

This is why we get those horrible fatbergs that block drains…

I want it to be this but think it looks like disintegrated polystyrene. I've had it coming out of the soles of cheap shoes before, and there are complaints on social media about takeaway cups shedding it into the drinks (yeuch). Might you have left a fruit tray - the protective base of the pack - or something similar in the water?

ETA: Cross-posted! Tell your mum not to pour fat down the drain!!! It forms huge clods of this stuff that block up the pipes. Pour it into some paper in the bin (landfill, not recycling).

Absolutely this! I pour into a bowl and refrigerate. Then it’s a solid block to go in the bin (and I always ponder what that would look like had we eaten it 🤢)

MyThreeWords · 22/03/2026 07:33

Fat that has coagulated in the cooling water.

Or a team of crack reconnaissance troops from Venus, preparing for the planetary takeover.

Seriously, though, coagulated fat.

EDIT: Sorry, I'd missed that a million people had already solved this.

There are good reasons why you should not pour fat down the drain. Fatbergs and blocked drains.

If you block your drains you'll probably be calling out a plumber. £££.

Pour the oil/fat/grease into a small container and when it's set bin the contents.

What a ridiculous comment.

There's clearly far too much for it to be that.
