Just caught up on the thread @FurForksSake your bright yellow car will be well appreciated by all the kids who play "rainbow car" on road trips. Basically have to spot a car of every colour of the rainbow and yellow is always a tricky one so you're doing God's own work there! My DC love to play

That is so funny! And it would cheer the gloomiest of weather.

FurForksSake · 27/03/2026 20:22

We play the yellow car game and award a trophy each Christmas for spotting the most yellow cars. We’ve not told the kids yet about the colour.

I discovered today that my employers re-enrolled me in their pension scheme in July. So I’ve had to fill in forms to leave and have my money back. I’m cross about the extra admin and that I never agreed to it.

TeaAndStrumpets · 27/03/2026 20:28

I've received the date for my first cataract op. I was all cool and unstressed about it but have now had a massive attack of the collywobbles. I will just have to not think about it. Stupidly enough I am not worried about the procedure itself but about will I be in PEM on the day due to me stressing beforehand.

If anyone can make sense of my reasoning I would love to know! I mean, worrying about worrying is ridiculous but I just know if I get anxious I will crash.

@DinoLil we are having a narrow staircase in our new house and are going to specify pigs ear profile hand rail on both sides. It is very flat to the wall. DH has a bad hip so it will really help.

JewelleryCat · 27/03/2026 20:43

@bedfrog I’m not sure how long plays are but I hope you are enjoying/have enjoyed the theatre and I’ve always been an introvert and still struggle with it but yes, nice to meet you 🙂

@Adhdmum2 would it help your mum if she had someone temporarily do the housework for her, the stuff she can’t do?

@DinoLil oh if it’s only a bannister then adult social care had absolutely no right to do what they did

Have a lovely Friday evening everyone 🙂

Oioiqueen · 27/03/2026 21:06

@Torchout sorry to hear about the renal failure, how long have you been on dialysis? Do you have the option of a transplant?

DH had a kidney transplant 20 years ago in his early 20's. Honestly you wouldn't know, actually he's in better health than me.

Oioiqueen · 27/03/2026 21:11

Heart scan today, results will be sent to my consultant. However I guess as they didn't immediately send me to A&E I'm not in heart failure or something drastic. I wasn't keen on her pressing the probe on my aorta around my stomach, that was quite uncomfortable. We want to go away with the kids the second week of the holidays but haven't booked anywhere yet. DH has said we give it until mid week this coming week incase the hospital ring to get any other urgent tests booked in. I'm determined to get away, as my chemo has been moved to after the bank holiday I don't usually get a gap and the kids being off school to fall at the same time.

Off work for two weeks now, mood has lifted slightly. Going to make the most of it whilst I can. Happy Friday everyone.

TeaAndStrumpets · 27/03/2026 21:49

@Oioiqueen fingers crossed you can get away and have a lovely holiday!

bedfrog · 27/03/2026 22:56

Adhdmum2 · 27/03/2026 19:29

This is exciting! Dh and I are going to see a comedian tomorrow night to celebrate our anniversary which I'm so looking forward to.
I'm similar, I get a huge slump early afternoon where I feel like I could sleep for days then I get a second wind into the evening and I end up listening to podcasts for hours in bed because I enjoy it (and I deserve to!) but then I'm tired in the morning, it's a vicious circle! Hope you enjoy the theatre, what are you seeing if it's not too outing?

Thanks! We just went to see a play about the women's land army in the second worl war. It was pretty good! Home late though so tomorrow will be a rest day. I love a good podcast too! I usually listen to them while resting so I don't fall asleep because then I'll be out cold for 3 hours 😅

martha79 · 28/03/2026 07:47

Morning all.

Play sounds good @bedfrog

Fingers crossed for the the test results and your holiday @Oioiqueen

Tried to rest after my friend's visit yesterday but had a message from my dad saying he'd been taken into hospital - he had heart problems a few years ago and was very breathless so they wanted to run tests. So messaging to keep him calm/ entertained while stuck waiting in the back of an ambulance for several hours, then updates on tests through the night. Things seem ok, he's just waiting to see the consultant then hopefully home soon. Of course my brain did major catastrophising last night - he's in Scotland while I'm in England so thinking about how to get there in a hurry etc.

FurForksSake · 28/03/2026 08:31

Morning all. Hope everyone is having a restful Saturday.

i got ninety minutes sleep, one day of work and my brain just wouldn’t shut up about things. Nothing I did could calm or stop it.

Swanhilde · 28/03/2026 09:30

Beautiful cold sunny morning here ☀️

Nothing to do today so I will rest and maybe sow a few seeds. I have a canna corn to plant too but I need DH to empty a pot first 🌱

This evening we're going over to DS and GF's for a curry. They will play board games and I will doze on the sofa. I have warned them I'll be in my pyjamas! 🥱

@martha79 hope your Dad is okay this morning and back home as soon as possible.

Have a peaceful day all 💕

bedfrog · 28/03/2026 09:33

Morning everyone! The theatre was fab and not too tiring. Today will consist of knitting in bed and watching tv dramas. Bit nervous about the clocks changing tonight- I'm already on a really late sleep routine- whoops

ViciousCurrentBun · 28/03/2026 09:47

I had brilliant news yesterday, my health issues include high risk of cardiac issues. Structural and high cholesterol, inherited, thanks Mum. My diet was healthy except maybe a bit too much cheese and red meat. Well cheese 4 times and red meat twice a week kind of levels.

I have in the last 2 months eaten cheese 3 times and red meat 4 times, very small amounts but have also stopped eating all deli meats. Lots more pulses and looked at detail on labels. Who knew that almost all pesto is not made with olive oil? I didn’t and only Tesco finest was 100% olive oil. Hummus was the same so have been making my own which I had done before. I rarely drank alcohol but zero had touched my Lips due to meds I’m on. I’m also having porridge every day as it’s the best for high cholesterol. My reading has gone down to 3.9 instead of 4.9, the bad cholesterol at 5 they push for statins.

After 3 weeks of physio I can also now raise my arm without too much pain after my medical emergency 2 months ago where I ended up in hospital.

We are travelling down to Birmingham friends and off to a show and dinner tonight. No lamb for me though it will be veg curry.

Swanhilde · 28/03/2026 10:08

What are you knitting @bedfrog ? I have a jumper to start next week 🧶

martha79 · 28/03/2026 10:11

Great news @ViciousCurrentBun - well done!

My dad's being kept in over the weekend as a precaution - two days of boredom with the occasional treadmill test, he reckons.

I've just popped out to post something and it was so nice I had to stop myself going further. I have plans the next couple of days so I really must make myself rest today.

bedfrog · 28/03/2026 10:33

@FurForksSake 90 minutes sleep sounds dreadful. I have the overactive brain thing too - if I've been to active or watched a film too close to bedtime it's like my brain can't switch off. It's truly awful, I hope you manage a better sleep tonight and can relax today.

@ViciousCurrentBun my cholesterol was 5.5 - I am a lifelong vegetarian and also gluten-free so I don't eat cakes or pastries at all. I've never smoked or drank either. The only cholesterol I eat is cheese probably twice a week and a bit of butter and milk in cereal and tea. I was truly furious but I'm sure it's genetic as my mum has the same thing. She eats the exact same diet as my dad and his is 0! Well done on reducing it with diet, I'm not sure I'll be able to and expecting the GP will put me on statins. I'm only 34 - I always thought statins were for elderly people! That'll teach me I suppose.

@Swanhilde I'm doing the 'Emotional support chicken'. It's on ravelry and is a lovely quick and easy pattern. I've already made one, it's good for using up scraps. I'll post a photo when it's finished. I've just finished a big crochet blanket so needed a smaller project. I don't tend to do jumpers as I get a bit lost on sleeve island. I stick to socks and baby jumpers for my little niece instead. What jumper pattern have you chosen, and what colour?

Swanhilde · 28/03/2026 11:40

Loving the 'emotional support chicken' @bedfrog 😆

As a lifelong knitter, I am always in awe of people who crochet. I just cannot get my head or fingers around it! I did buy myself a little starter kit so I must dig that out. All depends on having the head space 🥴

My jumper is a free Rowan pattern from Orry Mill, and I'm using a green cotton yarn as it's for the summer 🧶

Looking forward to seeing the finished chicken 🐔

TodayIsatrickyone · 28/03/2026 14:31

Afternoon all. Managed to go in a dog walk using my scooter today. Not been all week so that feels like progress. I parked up and walked for a few minutes too.

Hope your dad is okay @martha79 and home soon.

Great news about the cholesterol @ViciousCurrentBun I’m trying to reduce mine so that gives me hope. Though mines higher so I may still end up on statins but hoping to avoid it.

@TeaAndStrumpets I totally understand the worrying element of your op and worrying about worrying! It’s hard not to when you know that stress causes PEM. I think all you can do is be as physically rested as you can and accept what will be will be. I don’t know if you find meditation helpful, it’s something I dip in and out of but I do find it helps calm me a little in times of high stress. You could maybe try a few sessions the week before.

DinoLil · 28/03/2026 14:31

@Swanhilde I'd buy some!

Afternoon everyone, I'm not long up. Not quite true but 4am was a loooooong time ago 😆

You're all amazing with what you're up to. I have so much admiration. And envy!

I hope you're all having a wonderful Saturday! Many hugs to you all. I know that's not an MN thing but I don't care!

TeaAndStrumpets · 28/03/2026 15:01

Thanks @TodayIsatrickyone yes keeping calm is my aim for the next few weeks! I overthink everything unfortunately! It will be lovely when it's all over and done with, and I certainly can't delay it much longer. I struggle to see subtitles and faces on the TV so it has shrunk my world quite a bit. I can see to do splinters or mending, its just a bit misty everywhere.

It's such a lovely day outside! I'm glad you got a little walk!

@DinoLil i haven't got a creative bone in my body so I just marvel at all the clever folk on here!

CoffeeBeansGalore · 28/03/2026 15:42

Afternoon all.
Windy here with sun & sleet showers. A bit nippy. Ds took the dogs out between showers. I miss walking them everyday. I'd see and feel the seasons change whilst I was out. They are big & strong so taking them out with my scooter is a no no. Just too dangerous unfortunately.
But I'm stronger than last year so dd2 suggested a visit to the village cafe for a coffee & a cake when it's warmer. She's brought round cakes from there before & they were delicious. Something to look forward to 😊.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 28/03/2026 15:44

@martha79 hope your dad is home & happy soon.

TodayIsatrickyone · 28/03/2026 16:26

@TeaAndStrumpets I think focussing on it will be good to get it over with is a good strategy. My MIL had the same op a few years ago and was very relieved she’d had it done. I don’t think she realised quite how bad her eyes had got. She obviously doesn’t have the PEM aspect that you do but I was surprised just how quickly she recovered so hopefully all will go smoothly for you too and you’ll be delighted to actually see people’s expressions again on TV!

@CoffeeBeansGalore Hope you can get out soon for cofee and cake. It's good to have something to look forward to.
I totally hear you on the dog walking. I had a long spell housebound years ago and that was the thing I most missed until I got a mobility scooter but even then you have to be a certain level of wellness to cope with manoeuvring it. And as you say, big dogs or more than one dog is too much of a challenge.

I do manage the odd short walk/ scoot lately but generally my DH is with me and usually has the current dog as she isn’t used to the scooter yet and is a bit skittish near it as shes only 17 months or so ( rescue so not entirely sure!) So I wouldn't feel confident to take her without DH or DD. But it means I can get out of the house a bit and out into nature if I feel able to go with them.

MewithME · 29/03/2026 10:22

Morning all

It does not feel like 10.15 am! My body refuses to believe it!

I've semi caught up with your posts. Enjoying reading about the knitting @Swanhilde and @bedfrog ... I do love your username. I can imagine a crocheted bed-frog!

My good friend does crochet as a way of relaxing. My house now has random little characters dotted around. I have a pea and a smiley plant pot 😁 my favourite was her stranger things creature which was hilarious!

We had hail here yesterday and it's still grey and flipping cold. DS is home early because he needs mum taxi duty later after picking up some stuff. Happy to do it though. I always encourage him to be sociable.

We have a big trip to see my mum at last this week so I am slowly getting my head around that. Going to book a hotel and break the journey.

OP posts:
FurForksSake · 29/03/2026 10:29

@MewithME definitely booking a hotel sounds the right idea. I know it will wipe you out regardless, but i hope that makes it a little easier.

we had dh’s family over for a takeaway. Six extra adults was noisy and exhausting and I had to excuse myself as soon as I had eaten to shut myself away in the lounge. I’m so tired from it and the not sleeping that I don’t imagine I’ll be able to do much today.

ive got to do a pots self test but think I’ll wait till tomorrow after work.
