Apart from Dadda, Mumma, etc, my ds first word was "door." Well, " doooor" elongated, repeated many times as two or three syllables and intonation, like "dorwerwer."

Same as my son! Didn’t shut up from being about 8 months old but couldn’t walk til after he was 2! No issues he was just a lazy motormouth!

Hahaha!! That’s hilarious, I can’t believe it I’ve never met anyone who had the same first word as her! She didn’t walk till 1.5! but rest assured she was letting us know exactly what she wanted at all times with ‘that, that, that’ 😂

My ds first word wasn’t even mum 🤔🤣

His was light. It remained his only word for months!

He was speech delayed and was later diagnosed with autism - and he’s never lost his love of lights.

He's 21 now!

My DGS was "BOE"
Apparently that was his version of light because that was what he always pointed at!

Ineedanewsofa · 20/03/2026 20:17

Ter-ter, meaning water (she wanted a drink!)

DreamingOfGeneHunt · 20/03/2026 20:18

Mama, and Mud.

PeachOctopus · 20/03/2026 20:19

Banananananana

Squidwardthesnail · 20/03/2026 20:20

Both my kids, first word banana, quickly followed by peas. Was amazed they were both the same.

saycheeese · 20/03/2026 20:33

DD1 was dada, DD2 was duck and hiya, she was obsessed with ducks for about two years

bonbonours · 20/03/2026 20:41

DD1 : owl, said pointing at one at a wildlife park (before saying mummy/daddy)

DD2 : daddy but not sure what else.

DS: brmm -pointing at cars. My girls say that's not really a word but I say it was a meaningful noise at least.

DS talked absolute gibberish most of the time until about 4 years old, nobody could understand him his speech was so unclear. He never shut up tho. He also went through a phase of saying 'yeah?' and pointing at things he wanted (usually biscuits/cake etc)

Pebbles16 · 20/03/2026 20:48

According to my baby book it was pussy (next door neighbour's cat), followed by Dada and "no"!

EverythingGolden · 20/03/2026 20:52

cocog · 20/03/2026 18:18

Duck

This was my dd’s first word too

jetlag92 · 20/03/2026 20:53

Ds1 = No
Ds2 = cock cock = chocolate
DD = No

VikingLady · 20/03/2026 20:58

Boob. In hindsight I probably should have used a different word when latching her on.

WoollyandSarah · 20/03/2026 21:22

DD1 - upabovethe, through probably not as clearly as that.
DD2 - rowrow.

I'm not sure we sung to them more than the average family, but DD1 won't stop now.

EnglishRain · 20/03/2026 21:23

Dog. Which was lovely, as we had three dogs.

Poddingtonpeace · 20/03/2026 21:24

I don't know about first word, but her first sentence was "I'm happy".

blankcanvas3 · 20/03/2026 21:26

DS’s was mama, then Rooney (?!)
DD1’s was daddy, then no (running theme in her life)
DD2’s was her sister’s name

sharkstale · 20/03/2026 21:26

Dog, then, to my surprise, my mums dogs names, now it's mainly just Bye whenever anyone leaves a room 😂

Is it bad I can't remember my eldests?

gohomeroger1 · 20/03/2026 21:31

DS - book
DD - bunny

So was mine. As was my dad’s. (Not as much of an amazing coincidence as you would think. We were on holiday for a week with my dad’s mum when I was learning to talk. She was quite determined!)

Liondoesntsleepatnight · 20/03/2026 21:40

Duck then her name

CaptainCabinets · 20/03/2026 22:05

Cat Smile

CoodleMoodle · 20/03/2026 22:06

DD: Blue, but pronounced "boo-ay" or sometimes "boo-ee". It was always something blue, though! Then we moved on to animal noises. She also used the word "oh" in different ways to express pretty much everything she wanted to say.

DS: Woooooooowwwwwww, used to describe anything with big wheels. Or any wheels, tbh! Also DD's nickname (along the lines of BooBoo), which he may even have said before Mama/Dada. He also couldn't say her actual name until he was about 3, and so he called her Yoshi for quite awhile. Her name isn't Yoshi, funnily enough...

Bufftailed · 20/03/2026 22:07

Bubble - in the bath 💕

SouthLondonMum22 · 20/03/2026 22:08

DS - more
DD1 - wow
DD2 - no

WhoStoleAllTheUserNames · 20/03/2026 22:10

DS1; the cat’s name. Probably same time as shoe-shoe
DS2: DS1’s name
