My only overseas holiday is in France and so no plans to change. I am not one to sit out in sun for long. I would not be going to countries where you can be arrested for whom you love, even though I am heterosexual and would never be targeted.

Did you cancel or put the sri lanka on hold, or was that descion made for you? By the goverment or travel agent?

I was planning a safari next year but I'm unsure now

Our decision not to book because of the airspace, so Africa seems like a good idea.

Realitycheck1 · 19/03/2026 18:21

@NotesAndLists well yes I have a short haul booked but I think we are all in cloud cooked land at the moment !
Even if the straight opens tomorrow it will take six months to get things flowing like they were.

Forty85 · 19/03/2026 18:27

We have two areas of turkey booked and paid for, for easter and summer and unless anything changes wel be going. Likely go to the canaries or Cyprus in October.

I think a lot of us just hope our holidays will be able to go ahead, presume they will until told otherwise and just have a what will be will be attitude. Some people just like to shit on others plans though.

OnlyReplyToIdiots · 19/03/2026 18:32

Was meant to be going to Sri Lanka at Easter which is now pushed back until next year. State of emergency due to the lack of petrol and oil on the island apparently - so have booked Turkey instead.

France in October half term on Eurostar so if that’s impacted I think we’ll have bigger things to worry about than holidays!

dastardlydani · 19/03/2026 18:32

the thing i’m worried about most is fuel prices & the impact of that on the economy so am waiting & seeing but definitely no further than Europe

pimpelipom · 19/03/2026 18:32

Dh and ds were planning to go to Taiwan via Dubai. Ds finishes his gscs and this was going to be father-son trip to celebrate. Cancelled now.

as a family we don’t go anywhere. We are moving to Germany this summer so very busy.

It’s quite scary how quickly it has hit Asia

Lucky you OP, bit done deaf though isn't it, flaunting your multiple holidays

Yawn🙄

Mumstheword1983 · 19/03/2026 18:40

Italy for 16 days in July. Booked it last year. If I hadn't I probably wouldn't have gone away this year as I'm an anxious Annie but we will be going as it's paid for 😀

Nourishinghandcream · 19/03/2026 18:45

No, we are not changing our arrangements in the slightest and will be going away as normal.😎

Only next week we are down in the West Country and then we have multiple breaks lined up in the Cotswolds, New Forest, Somerset, Herefordshire, Norfolk, Yorkshire, Shropshire and the Lake District.

Hope our destinations don't get extra busy from all those people cancelling flights.☹️

Moellen54 · 19/03/2026 18:45

We have a Norway Cruise booked. We were thinking Rhodes or similar but we are no longer thinking the med at all. Maybe Madeira

thesugarbumfairy · 19/03/2026 18:46

Thailand. Just me and DS2. And no I'm not changing my plans as we aren't going via the middle east. If something unfortunate happens before we go away that means its no longer feasible, then so be it.

HalfasleepChrisintheMorning · 19/03/2026 18:47

Athens at Easter
Singapore and Thailand in July, flights direct Singapore to Manchester
Fingers crossed!
Not booking next year just yet except Mainland Spain for the eclipse

dastardlydani · 19/03/2026 18:48

@thesugarbumfairy I think Thailand is having fuel problems

Octavia64 · 19/03/2026 18:49

Lake District and Zurich.

doing the great north swim in the lakes and planning to swim the lake at Zurich as well. Neither likely to get cancelled,

I was considering going to see my brother in New Zealand at some point this year as my SIL is recovering from breast cancer but the flights are now too expensive via Singapore which is the only currently safe route left.

Since when has it been ‘tone deaf’ to discuss holiday plans on the internet with strangers? Jeepers!

Especially on the Holidays board! Are we not allowed to discuss multiple holidays even here now?!

To be fair it’s not on the holidays board, it’s in chat and in trending.

Passportparanoia · 19/03/2026 19:03

We are supposed to be going to Turkey soon. I’m happy to travel but others have pulled out reducing numbers so it may not happen.

It’s still not ‘tone deaf’ though, especially as the title was really clear so if anyone wants to avoid it, they could. Or they could just come on to moan and be offended on the behalf of others. 🤪

AgualusasL0ver · 19/03/2026 19:15

Athens is about 1,500 miles from Tehran, Athens to London is also about 1,500 miles from the war perspective.

Shortages etc I get though, and if you aren't comfortable then you aren't comfortable.

goodtoesnaughtytoes · 19/03/2026 19:15

Croatia in Aug, Malta in Oct. Not worried.

Devongirl1983 · 19/03/2026 19:23

Greece and not in the slightest bit worried. If they wanted to target Western tourists, you could choose a hotel anywhere in the World. If someone is determined to do something, they will go ahead and try.

Think of all the people going about daily life as normal in the UK and most countries. Every attraction (everywhere!) will be packed in the next couple of weeks and it would be ridiculous to ‘cancel life’ as this could go on for years (and the threat has been there for decades and decades).

I’ve found watching a short burst of news (just to keep up) then turning off the deliberate fearmongering (where every story is ‘breaking news’), really helps not to become paranoid over these things.

honeylulu · 19/03/2026 19:30

Was about to book Jordan for May half term, had just asked the travel agent to run the itinerary with cheaper hotels as was pricey. By the time the new itinerary came though the war had started. Have booked Montenegro instead.

Sri Lanka and Maldives for 2 weeks in August though after reading this thread it could be affected. Direct flights though, not stopping over in ME.
