If you’ve got the MenB jab booked…

Do you know if the second dose also gets reserved?
I’ve booked the vaccine online at boots for DS but they’re now out of stock. No point in having the first jab if we can’t get the second dose. Can’t get through to call them. Anyone else in the same situation who may have an answer please?

When Is your appointment booked for? They cancelled mine at the last minute.

mindutopia · 18/03/2026 17:01

Does he need it? Like in uni or living in halls? If not, I’d cancel anyway and leave it for those at high risk who actually need it.

At the moment, I’ve heard there is no stock anyway, so I assume it will be cancelled for you, as first booked on the assumption of no stock out.

IndieRocknRoll · 18/03/2026 22:19

I booked it at boots last weekend for this Sat. Haven’t heard anything about it being cancelled. I’d assumed their system would know how many they’ve got in stock but maybe not!

Govt has bought up stock for the Canterbury response, I’d try again in a couple of months

user2848502016 · 19/03/2026 07:41

I’d wait a few months , stock of the vaccine is being sent to Kent to manage the outbreak there.
The immunity from the vaccine only lasts about 5 years too so depending on his age you might be better waiting anyway. I am going to wait until my DD is in 6th form so she is covered when she goes off to uni

DontKillSteve · 19/03/2026 08:00

DD (at Uni) had one yesterday. The first one gives pretty good coverage. Hopefully 4-8 weeks later the demand will have settled and they will have supplies.

LysistrataSusanCarter · 19/03/2026 08:16

We booked on Monday through the private GP, and yes both vaccines are reserved. There was only one left in stock and we had to pay upfront for the full course and the GP’s consultation fee.

I think it is very unlikely there will be stocks available now, but it’s worth putting on the to-do list for anyone with older teens. We had our eldest vaccinated before she left for uni last year.

TeenLifeMum · 19/03/2026 08:18

Unless you live in Kent, I’d hold off at the moment. I’m planning to get dd1 vaccinated before uni in September so I’m watching closely but I can’t justify taking vaccines from those who are actually at risk right now (we’re not near Kent).

nicky2512 · 19/03/2026 08:18

Second dose isn’t reserved as far as I know in Boots. Maybe some private clinics would offer this though any I phoned had no stock. I have an appointment booked for ds in Boots next week but fully expect it to be cancelled. I’d hope even just having the first one would help.
It is an awful expense but ds is in halls at uni in England and is one of those unfortunate people who catch everything going and always seems to be not well so I’d really like to get it if I can.

Gabbycat245 · 19/03/2026 08:37

Boots offered to reserve a second dose yesterday. Whether it actually happens or not, let's see.

Righttherights · 19/03/2026 10:52

My concern is that while my DS is a student, he isn’t at uni in Kent , but everyone will be home for Eastern and mixing. - clubs/pubs/raves. Yes to making sure the people of Kent get first dibs but I feel a nationwide catch up is required. Now!
Can’t get one anyway ! I can’t help but feel I’ve missed a trick here- I don’t recall there being an advisory for my DS to get the vaccination before uni. I am the sort of person who would have sorted that.

FunnyCradock · 19/03/2026 15:08

Oh this is interesting. We are in Kent (DS is in 6th form at one of the affected schools, they’ve all been given ABs now). I booked a vaccine apt for Sat as soon as the information broke. But we’ve also been told today by the Headteacher that a vaccination programme is going to be rolled out for 6th formers in the area. However, details on when/where this aren’t known yet so I'm not sure whether to cancel…or now whether it will be cancelled anyway.

Orangesandlemons77 · 19/03/2026 15:20

We've got one booked for DS tomorrow and it's not cancelled yet. I rang them to ask about the second dose and they said that it would be ok up to a month after. Bit annoyed that other DS went for the first dose a year ago but didn't get his follow up one. Not in the SE but in the south of England

Get him to book his second one now. It’s still a booster. You never restart a course of vaccine.

I already asked and they said they would do with him when he attends tomorrow.

RainbowBagels · 19/03/2026 16:15

I'm going to wait until after DS has done his exams then book it. I hope they will have enough by then and the initial demand has died down. His year 13 class have a cold going round and are all panicking each other about it. We are nowhere near Kent.

Skybluepinky · 19/03/2026 16:20

If you aren’t in Kent expect it to get cancelled, and no it doesn’t it can be more than 4 weeks after but not before.

reluctantbrit · 19/03/2026 16:25

DD is at university in Lincoln and we decided not to book a jab, or try to attempt to book a jab, at the moment.

We do live in London and she will be here next week for the Easter break but she is not a party girl, she doesn't have a boyfriend at the moment or girlfriend and I normally would say it is very unlikely that she is going out more then maybe a museum visit.

I think we will try to get her a jab before she returns in September.

In my opinion there should be the possibility to get older teens and university students jabbed on the NHS. I don't mind paying for the jab that's not the issue, I think this outbreak shows that there should be cover for everyone who hasn't been jabbed as a child.

IndieRocknRoll · 19/03/2026 21:25

Well it predictably got cancelled this morning.
Will try again once things have died down a bit.

I took my dd on Tuesday to Boots and the woman there said it was the last vaccine she had in stock but that the system was still letting people book. She said that the booking system doesnt know if they have vaccines in or not. She also said she'd ordered more in but had no idea if they would arrive.

Do they refund you straight away or just say try rebooking?

No refund but I’ve asked to be put on the waiting list so I’ll give it a couple of weeks and then see where we are.

We booked with a local independent pharmacy (SE London) and it was cancelled day before as they have no stock

It’s for DC aged 12 who’s never had Men B as born year before it was added to the schedule (younger sibling had course as part of routine immunisations)…it’s something I’ve been meaning to get booked for a long time, now kicking myself we didn’t just get it done a few years ago

Everything that’s happening has certainly made people stop & take notice & take action as a consequence

We’re going to wait until after the Easter holidays to try and book it again
