If you’ve got the MenB jab booked…

Do you know if the second dose also gets reserved?
I’ve booked the vaccine online at boots for DS but they’re now out of stock. No point in having the first jab if we can’t get the second dose. Can’t get through to call them. Anyone else in the same situation who may have an answer please?

I took my dd on Tuesday to Boots and the woman there said it was the last vaccine she had in stock but that the system was still letting people book. She said that the booking system doesnt know if they have vaccines in or not. She also said she'd ordered more in but had no idea if they would arrive.

This was my experience with the flu jab as well. I think it's a bit of a shamble how Boots operates their booking system.

Is it true that the immunity only lasts 5 years ? Both my girls have had the vaccine but ds missed out by a year. I’m not planning on getting him vaccinated anytime soon either not with all this going on as others need it more, but interested to know if it’s true about how long it lasts ?

Long term data is lacking but it’s likely protection lasts 3-5 years. So not always terribly beneficial to vaccinate children aged between 5 and 15.

They’ll be offered Meningitis ACWY vaccine in school year 9, as those are the strains usually most prevalent and risky in teenagers.

Our local (SE) Travel clinic has advised that they have sent all of their stock to Canterbury.

The message on how long it lasts seems to vary, the superdrug website says adults and older children don't need boosters after the second dose. My DD has had hers but over 5 years ago and is now at uni but nowhere near Kent and none of her home friends are there so not going to worry for now but might try and find out more and possibly get a booster over the summer.

What is the shelf life for the teen booster vaccination? Because if they get it between 13 and 14 and they start uni at 18 or 19 is there still a cover?

Or would it be necessary to be vaccinated again?

There doesn't seem to be much substantive data about longevity. I believe it's at least 5 years.

The Green Book (immunisation 'bible') says:

Booster doses of MenACWY conjugate vaccine in at-risk individuals are currently not recommended because the need for, and the timing of, boosters has not yet been determined. There are currently very few infections due to these 4 serogroups because of the population protection provided by the teenage MenACWY immunisation programme.

So nothing definitive
