Are you doing anything for Mothers day?

(Sorry-possibly been done to death).

I never do anything. I don't really care much about it. But DH is home after a month away for work and I am thinking it might be a good excuse to do something as a family.

I think I'm limited to a meal out but very open to much nicer suggestions. If I had my way it would be a walk and a picnic but everyone else in my family hates both of those and I'd like for us all to enjoy it!

I have no idea what as Dh and dc plan something. Usually I have coffee in bed and cards/flowers. Then usually we go do something, walk and often a wild swim, because that’s what enjoy (everyone else has to come along, we have family time every weekend but this is my day to do something I choose), sometimes might go for a beach walk, and then we usually lunch at home, sometimes a BBQ or a picnic. We don’t see our mums (I’m NC with mine, MIL wouldn’t have us over and Dh not keen). Mostly it’s just a relaxing day that usually involves me swimming and everyone having to patiently watch. 😂

Working so no. Third year in a row- would like to go out for a huge hike with the kids but work seem to find it funny having mostly mums work that day. Yes I’m bitter 😅

Fortheloveofpizza · 10/03/2026 16:28

I don’t have my own mum anymore and my own children fairly young so probably not. I could organise something myself but feel that defeats the point.
I would like to go out for dinner but COL is worrying me so will save my pennies

DS1 is away at Uni and DH is hiking in Morroco so it will just be me, DD 17 and DS2 15. I have asked for a chill day - DD is going to attempt her first roast dinner, then we are going to play some board games and watch Zootropolis 2 as it has just come out on Disney+

DreamingOfGeneHunt · 10/03/2026 16:31

Child has asked me to bake a cake so she can decorate it (she's 7) and we're going to the city farm to feed the lambs.

Oh that's a nice idea! We have a donkey sanctuary with a good cafe so that might be an idea.

No plans yet. I'm not sure anyone realises it's Mother's Day on Sunday other than me, even though I told my youngest I was posting a Mother's Day card to my mum today. My eldest will cook dinner if I ask him to, I might even let him choose what to cook within his skill set.

Pricesandvices · 10/03/2026 16:40

Just the gym. My teen is getting me the chocolate I like.

Toastersandkettles · 10/03/2026 16:42

I'm working, looking after lots of other people's mothers/grandmothers.

FettleOfKish · 10/03/2026 16:43

Working, but I don’t mind as I work every Sunday and with a toddler at home frankly 8 hours in a silent office on my own is like Mother’s Day every week 😉

westcott · 10/03/2026 16:44

We are going for a meal and taking my mum too. Booked early as this restaurant is popular. Looking forward to it as we don’t usually do much.

JustAnotherWhinger · 10/03/2026 16:48

We are going to the zoo on Sunday morning and then will visit DH’s Granny, but MIL, Other-MIL, SIL and I are going for a spa day (which tbh will be more about the cakes served for afternoon tea than anything else) on Saturday.

FIL’s father made a big thing of Mother’s Day which rubbed off on FIL then DH and BIL.

WhatwillitTake · 10/03/2026 16:48

It hasn't been mentioned. Dcs are too young to do it themselves, but usually dh takes them to choose cards, youngest may make one. I'm honestly over the moon with that, a coffee, and a cuddle up with them in bed!

dontforgetme · 10/03/2026 16:49

Will visit my mom and step mom then home for a beef roast cooked by dp followed by cheesecake whilst watching Zootopia 2.

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 10/03/2026 16:51

Lunch out, including my mum. Home to spend the afternoon trying to find a film that my adult children, husband, I and my mum will ask want to watch (she won't watch anything with nudity or swearing, but isn't averse to violence 🙃) - we will fail and everyone will wander off while my mum has a nanna nap.

With any luck, I'll be giving birth to my first baby after years of struggling. My due date is 16/03, so we'll see 😊

landlordhell · 10/03/2026 17:05

DD22 has just told me she’s taking me out for brunch! Normally it’s just a bunch of daffs or a card which is nice.

Tootles1 · 10/03/2026 17:08

Nothing here, but it’s not something we’ve ever done anyway.

You win! How exciting. I raise my cup of Yorkshire Gold to you Smile

ponyinmypocket · 12/03/2026 17:48

I really couldn't give a monkeys about mother's day! It seems so silly. My mum gets in a wee strop if we don't do anything, but within my own family - I'm happy with a slightly extended coffee in bed!

Randomchat · 12/03/2026 17:53

We're going out for a meal with my mum. She's had a shit year so she'll appreciate the fuss. I'm not bothered about doing anything for me though. I'm not big on birthdays or Mother's Day.

caringcarer · 12/03/2026 18:10

It's probably my MiL's last Mother's Day so DH is travelling up to see her Sunday morning but won't get back until very late as long journey. 2 of my DC live over 150 miles away in opposite directions but 1 usually sends a card and flowers and the other a card, already arrived by Moonpig, and a gift h sends money and my DS who lives close to me gets it for him and brings over. DS who lives close to me often cooks me a delicious meal but often one evening, and gives me a card. Teen foster sons often take me out for a meal and they give me a somebody special on Mother's Day card.

WheresMyOtherSock · 12/03/2026 18:32

DD will be at her dad’s as it’s Sunday, so I’ll be home alone with the dog. ExDH and I split when DD was 1, so I only managed 1 Mother’s Day and nothing had been planned then so it would’ve been silly to expect anything after the divorce!

She’s made me a lovely card at school this week though which made me smile, she’s cut and stick some tulips on it and written a lovely message. She’s 6, so without someone helping her plan, a handmade card is my limit but I’m more than happy with that!

My DM is in India, so I’ve sent her some money to buy herself something nice whilst she’s out there (gone November - April so lots of time for shopping!).

NovemberMorn · 12/03/2026 18:38

I have lost my own mum, so Mothers day always feels a bit sad to me.
But I am going out for a family meal, which also includes grandkids, so it'll be very nice.

Wishing all other mums a happy Mothers day. x

LastNightMyPJsSavedMyLife · 12/03/2026 18:40

Yes I’m going walking with 2 of my 3 adult sons (one lives abroad) followed by sausage baps. Perfect
