Are you doing anything for Mothers day?

(Sorry-possibly been done to death).

I never do anything. I don't really care much about it. But DH is home after a month away for work and I am thinking it might be a good excuse to do something as a family.

I think I'm limited to a meal out but very open to much nicer suggestions. If I had my way it would be a walk and a picnic but everyone else in my family hates both of those and I'd like for us all to enjoy it!

MIL has died and my mum lives at the other end of the country so it's just our immediate family of four for mother's day. I do send my mum flowers but otherwise it's low key in that respect.

We are going out for a meal that DH has booked, which is what we usually do!

To be fair with the cost of living we very rarely go out for a pub lunch now as we've limited it to special occasions only so I'm quite happy to be waited on and not have to cook or wash up!

I'm aware it's a bittersweet day for DH though, thinking of his own mum so it's a bit of a weird one I find.

Go for a fun family session at one of those neon indoor golf places.

A parcel has arrived from DS and DD and DGD are taking me out for afternoon tea on Sunday. Lovely.

My mum passed ten years ago. We are scattering FIL ashes (ironically his birthday) and then visiting MIL in the care home. She has the beginnings of dementia and in two years has never even asked about what was done with them. Not a fun day.

A mixed bag. Last day of our holiday, so I'm going for a massage in the morning.

But then a 4h flight with a 2yo after to unrelax me.

No, the dcs do a regular activity on Sundays so we rarely do anything special. This year I'll be recovering from surgery so I'll be stuck in bed mostly.

I am hoping my husband has planned a little outting on behalf of my DD whose 3.
This is the first mother's day without my own mum so I'll have a lot of emotions that day I'm sure.

Good luck @YorkshireGoldDrinker

Fingers crossed the weather will allow a little walk and coffee at a NT property. Other than that, just having older DC home for the weekend will be present enough!

Nothing won't see either son or granddaughter for the second year in a row. It doesn't bother me at all but everyone at my work thinks it's terrible that nobody is bothering to visit me. They are all seeing their children and going out for lunch etc. They seem to think it means my childhood don't like me very much and it's tragic for me. To me it's just another Sunday.

abracadabra1980 · 12/03/2026 21:18

I'm never bothered about gifts but we usually have a Sunday roast together. This year I've been invited to my daughter's new home and she's going to cook for the whole family. It's her first attempt so I'm very excited and happy. Son will probably contribute nothing - parental fail - but he's a very willing DIY'er when needed.

Starlight7080 · 12/03/2026 21:19

We have a busy Saturday so thankfully dh is cooking sunday roast and i get a nice relaxing day to just do what i want. Which will probably be in the shed doing some pottery(making a mess) . Kids will help with roast and all sit together which is always nice after a busy week.

Thanks all for your posts. Some lovely plans here and some sadder ones. Sorry for those who have been bereaved. Thanks
