It ain't nothing but a heart-breaker
(War) Friend only to The Undertaker
(Edwin Starr 1970, written by Norman Whitfield and Barrett Strong)

Unless, of course, your name ends in Trump, when it ain't nothing but an opportunity to grift, deflect and destroy.

I largely lurk here but popping in to say The News Agents latest episode entitled "Has Trump Lost It" is well worth a listen.

I just don't think anyone believes he ever had it.

I just don't recognise this as Christian, somehow.

It's really something that they still have the ability to shock me. I was also creeped out by his weird empty eyes. Honestly, it scary how these people seem programmed.

PerkingFaintly · 18/03/2026 09:03

They clearly feel really, really threatened by Talarico reminding everyone that Christianity is about love, not a banner around which to rally hatred.

And by saying that god is bigger than politics, not a tool to be fitted into politics.

A stark realisation when they said that a year ago countries were trying to appeal to his rational side and now they just shrug.

As an aside, the way he was gripping the desk and those lidded glasses were weird.

Lalgarh · 18/03/2026 09:53

Yes the lids on the glasses. It's that a poison prevention measure

Does Jesus/God love a fundamental Christian?

Quiet u-turn to hire more immigrants. Not to be seen by more than 3 MAGAnauts at once, as they may be able to complete a sentence and understand it

https://mezha.net/eng/bukvy/us_administration_eases_h2a/

They should issue MAGA hats with the visas as a sort of ICE shield.

I was quite impressed by our irish Taoiseach’s comments to Trump.

he made his points - defending Starmer and Marcon, saying Europe is a lovely place to live.

Yup. He stumbled a bit I thought when Trump went on about immigration like a reform voter. But I think that was more of a wtf thing than lack of articulation.

But overall, what I saw on RTE player was very good.

I have to be honest, the only clue that is not not-satire is the fact it's written as Australian.

If you imagine you are reading it on the Texas tryboone website, it looks kosher.

CNN again, this time about the senate intel committee (yeah,, what intelligence).

My thoughts here, the CNN txt bold below.

So Iranian Government intact. That's a surprise not given how big governments are, esp authoritarian ones.

Nuke ICBM by 2035, not the two weeks that was said... 2 weeks ago. And I notice there is a "space" thing creeping in. Isreal said the other day it had destroyed a space lab that was developing an anti sat satellite, reminiscent of Reagans star wars. So it looks like they are piling on every reason they can think of ? Bio labs tomorrow ?

"US intel assesses Iranian regime "appears to be intact," director of national intelligence says

The US intelligence community assesses that the Iranian regime “appears to be intact, but largely degraded due to attacks on its leadership and military capabilities,” Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard said today.
“The IC assesses that if a hostile regime survives, it will likely seek to begin a years-long effort to rebuild its military, missiles and UAV forces,” Gabbard told the Senate Intelligence Committee at its hearing on global threats. Her comments come after a number of Iran’s top leaders, including Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, were killed.
Gabbard said, that prior to the start of US and Israeli military operations at the end of February, the IC assessed that “Iran was trying to recover from the severe damage to its nuclear infrastructure sustained during the 12-Day War and continued to refuse to comply with its nuclear obligations.” She did not give details on those recovery efforts or whether Iran was seeking to rebuild its enrichment capabilities.
Iran’s “conventional military power projection capabilities have largely been destroyed, leaving limited options,” Gabbard said. The US “maximum pressure” campaign of economic sanctions and the snapback of European sanctions had “significantly degraded” Tehran’s “strategic position.”
“The IC assesses that internal tensions are likely to increase as Iran’s economy worsens,” she said.
Gabbard reiterated the assessment that Iran “could use” existing technology “to begin to develop a militarily viable ICBM before 2035 should Tehran attempt to pursue that capability,” but said the assessment would be updated to take into account the impact of “Operation Epic Fury.” She did not say there had been a change to the assessment of whether Tehran has decided to pursue that capability.
CIA Director John Ratcliffe noted that “Iran is gaining experience in these larger, more powerful booster technologies through its so-called Space Launch Vehicle program” and “if left unimpeded … they would have the ability to range missiles to the continental US.”"

That would have made me laugh if it hadn't made me cry since what it says as satire is actually true.

Isreal have bombed the worlds largest gas field, sending oil prices up again.

India are already short of cooking gas.

logicisall · 18/03/2026 16:38

The war is expanding.

British defence sources say they are still talking to the US military and other allies about options to open up the Strait of Hormuz.
A number of UK military specialists have been sent to US Central Command in Florida to help with planning - in addition to the small team of UK military personnel already stationed there.
Defence Minister Al Carns said the UK was also talking to allies about what they might do together. BBC.

logicisall · 18/03/2026 16:39

I caught the last 30 min of Tulsi Gabbard's testimony. Eye opening how she refuses to answer questions, both directly and indirectly.

logicisall · 18/03/2026 16:44

Further to previous talk on Iran's terrain, it's perfect for a war of attrition. Long coastline (handheld launchers) plus a hilly/mountainous interior from which to launch drone attacks and hide people and weapons.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 18/03/2026 16:45

[Monte Cassino is] the one where the Germans held a hilltop Monastery and promised not to fight from it. But instead of going around, the allies flattened it with Bombers, and the Germans moved into the rubble and did start fighting, the rubble atop a hill making a perfect defensive position. Combined deaths of about 180 k resulted.

And the destruction of unnumbered quantities of irreplaceable Mediaeval manuscripts which had been sent there from all over Europe for storage because it was believed to be a safe site for them, since everyone had agreed it was a peace zone. Until someone decided it wasn't. (Also a sixth-century monastery which had been in continuous occupation since its foundation in 529 and continued to be even after the Italian monasteries were officially dissolved in 1866, but that has been rebuilt, not for the first time in its long history. The manuscripts are gone forever.)

One of the worse bits of wartime vandalism. It made my university tutor (from the Netherlands) really quite cross when he thought about what had been lost forever.

I was watching her, Kash Patel, and Ratcliff's testimony and was reminded of this from "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas".
