Net curtains are not a legal requirement!!??

Have had a visit from the person whose house backs onto ours. We have small gardens so it’s very close (new build estate).

She asked me to get net curtains! Apparently it’s a legal requirement for privacy and modesty reasons when houses are so close together ?
That they can see me eating in my kitchen and can see directly into my bedroom.

If I’m getting dressed / changed I shut the actual curtains??

In the morning I do like to open them and have tea / breakfast in bed. I’m not doing naked pilates or anything!
My kitchen table faces out towards the garden but I fail to see how them being able to see me eating is a modesty issue ?

I explained I don’t like nets. Also I can see that they have nets????!!!!!

She told me she will take it further as it could be seen as a nuisance issue ?

I'm 100% convinced the issue is her huband has noticed you and she is jealous / emotionally unstable about it. You get it all the time with Mums of teenage boys complaining to parents of teenage girls about what they wear. The issue is of course the boys who decide they have to look, but the parents always blame the other parents. All you can do is ignore it or counter-complain saying that the neighbour is a stalky peeping tom and the wife watches you constantly. They of course are the ones in the wrong.

I also think this, there is a husband or son looking. I also find sometimes women find it easier to blame the woman rather than deal with the behaviour of the male. I’ve yet to meet a woman yet who would give a shit about seeing her neighbour in her house. But I’ve met plenty would would take issue if their husband was having a look

The Morris voiles are beautiful but they are just posh net curtains

I think you might want to raise a complaint yourself. Sounds like you have a peeping Tom!!

But seriously, what a weirdo. She can’t make you put nets up. If she doesn’t want to see inside your house, she should simply not look. She has no legal basis.

It’s made me feel really self conscious to think someone has noticed me eating / having tea in bed !

So get up those half net curtains then, that just cover the lower half.

Despite all the mocking of the woman here, the problem is clearly the money making densely packed design of the houses. It doesn’t sound like she would have to peer to see you. It sounds like she would have to avert from looking out of her window altogether.

I would feel weird seeing my neighbour lounging in their bed. I would feel weird if my neighbour could see me lounging in my bed.

just put up a half net and do both of you a favour.

Get back into bed with you breakfast and raise your cup of tea and point at your bacon sarnie and offer her a bite.

Or a huge print out of eyes looking back at her.

Why would you want a neighbour to see you in your bed?
That's odd.
Most people would have blackout curtains let alone net curtains in their bedroom for privacy/keep out the light.

You didnt read the post properly did you??

Here's some - I believe that they are Home Office approved.

😂 OP you NEED to get these net curtains. Your neighbour will be delighted. 😂
