Is anyone free to chat? I need distracting from an anxiety meltdown.

I some distraction.

I’ve taken my beta blocker but my thoughts are spiralling. I find it really hard to get on top of it 😭

What’s the problem

DuchessDandelion · 04/03/2026 21:14

Chat about it or distraction?

I'm watching Ted Lasso for the feel-goods this evening

LondonLady1980 · 04/03/2026 21:19

I don’t know whether it’s best to chat about it or be distracted. I genuinely don’t know which one will help the most.

What do beta blockers actually do?

halftermhalfawake · 04/03/2026 21:19

I'm just having a scroll now 1 DC is down, procrastinating doing the dishes. do you want to talk about it? I take propranolol for anxiety, its helped me, has yours helped you?

Maybe a bit of both?

Realscottishhaggis · 04/03/2026 21:20

Well beta blockers effect the heart so that might be the sensation you’re experiencing

MissCooCooMcgoo · 04/03/2026 21:21

ShakyBake · 04/03/2026 21:19

What do beta blockers actually do?

Keep the heart beating steadily which helps the panic not escalate into a full blown panic attack.

What do beta blockers actually do?

Slows my heart rate, stops the sweating and stops the adrenaline rush that comes with anxiety attacks (which is what perpetuates the problem).

Empty it out op. Talking helps massively.

I’ve been on it for years and yes it usually helps…. But today has been a particularly bad day. I only take a small dose too.

Thanks, I thought that's what they were for, can I get them over the counter do you know?

halftermhalfawake · 04/03/2026 21:24

You can just vent if you like, or we can talk about the mundane stuff - I've kept a small human alive all day, and that's about it

It’s all related to my epilepsy. I had a very scary event earlier which although did subside after taking my emergency drugs, I’m terrified it’s going to start up again. The last two times it happened I ended up in hospital as my seizures just wouldn’t stop.

No, they are prescription only.

Do you get anxious too?

I had such a long panic attack only valium could break the cycle. I know this feeling too well!

Try and talk about it if you can 💐

How small is your human?

I remember those days! It was hard!

Do you need to get a check up this eve or anything op? Or is that under control for now? That does sound tough 💐

I have epilepsy too! Which kind do you have? I worry a lot when I have a seizure as well. It's a horrible feeling

I just have so much going on in my life at the moment. I feel burnt out and overwhelmed and my epilepsy event today has pushed me over the edge I think.

And it’s so hard trying to act brave in front of the children.

How can one small person run me so ragged that's what I want to know. Those little legs can really move! DC is a toddler but is actually an under cover olympian sprinter

No, I don’t need to be seen tonight. I have a very good plan set out by my neurologist team though about how often I can have my emergency drugs and when to call 999 etc. I just get so worried about it escalating to that point ☹️

I'm a single parent, are you op? Or is there anyone who could pop round irl if you wanted

MamaBobo · 04/03/2026 21:30

Hello, I’m here for you too. I don’t really have any particular experience, just a shoulder to lean on and a space to vent if you like. I’m watching tv after a day with my elderly Dad, my dog is snoozing on the sofa. Happy to chat away and sending hugs and support.

Bluejaysbaby · 04/03/2026 21:31

Is stress one of your triggers?@LondonLady1980

Lack of sleep is one of mine. You on propranolol for anxiety?
