First set of documents relating to Peter Mandelson published

The government has just published the first set of documents relating to Peter Mandelson’s appointment as ambassador to the US.

Epstein links, Russia links and a demand for a massive severance payout

Millions watching an AI video of Jeremy Clarkson beating up Keir Starmer.

It might seem like a 'joke' but normalising violence in politics damages our democracy.

I'm calling for an urgent Digital Human Rights Bill to protect people’s identity and likeness online.

We know where the normalisation of political violence can lead.

We lost Jo Cox and David Amess to political violence.

Depicting politicians being attacked for entertainment feeds a culture that dehumanises people in public life.

Gillray might disagree

In other news, Kneecap prosecution still fails.

The police have apparently also been raiding meetings at that renowned hotbed of violent sedition that is the Quakers.

itsgettingweird · 11/03/2026 17:59

It’s ok people - we’ve located Farage.

He’s been down the road from me at the pub meeting Braverman 👀😝

Rummly · 11/03/2026 18:04

I only flick around here now and again. And mostly I’m not gripped with a desire to post on a thread containing opinions I’m almost entirely at odds with, and on which the regular posters resent impish contributions, reasonably enough

But SJane’s last two posts are so splendid that they deserve a round of applause. Particularly the mischievous Swiss newspaper. Bravo!

PandoraSocks · 11/03/2026 18:15

You didn't really need that first paragraph Rummly dear. Impish contributions? I think you have a rather inflated view of your own humour! Irritating is the word I'd choose 🍓😁 🍓

It's the strange need to let people know you are watching a thread, a hello would be fine.

Her comment about people in rural areas relying on cars - my parents had a regular bus to their nearest city until their Tory Council stopped subsidising it.

But people in rural areas do rely on cars.

So do many disabled people, but Badenoch doesn't seem to care about them. In fact she'd like to see many of them lose access to a car.

Because they bloody have to!

As I know only too well seeing as I grew up in the country. I would have had to walk a couple of miles to get to a bus route. It wasn’t good then and it isn’t good now. Nothing to do with Tories.

It squares with posters who feel the need to post "Reported" rather than just reporting ....

I had to walk a mile and a half to get to the nearest bus stop in my town to get to school. All downhill.

My children all walked a mile to their school, unless it was lashing it down with rain, possibly local floods, then I'd give them a lift. Weirdly a few centermetres of snow and the school was closed, so they'd come back home - despite me ringing to check.

Many people live in villages which had regular buses before they were deregulated and thrown open to market forces. That was the tories. Some villages kept a bus service, even if it became less frequent, thanks to council subsidies. "Austerity" ended a fair few of those.
