Anyone starting to wonder if they should be making a little ‘emergency inventory’

Don’t laugh! 😆

I mean I’m not overly worried about there suddenly being ww3 and bombs dropping above our heads next week. But hey, natural disasters, some variant of a Covid drama put upon us again, one day one of the mad countries with some nuclear weapon may surprise us. God knows, nothing surprises me lately with the stuff going on. The trust in our politicians and well our own royal family member of two shows these people just say what they think we want to hear or need to hear. Who knows what’s going on behind the scenes.
The world seems to be pretty balmy lately.

But one thing since becoming a mum is you do think more about ‘what if’.

I didn’t have kids when Covid happened. And I didn’t really buy into it as much as others (I know we all have our own viewpoints on it).
But you’ve got to admit the world is feeling a bit weird lately.

So I’d love to hear what others would in a worst case scenario think they’d want or put in an emergency suitcase or keep stocked at home or whatever.

It can be light hearted or serious.. enlighten me 🙃

We have "bug out bags" and a list of things we'll need to grab.

Our bags have a change of clothes, basic toiletries, some cash, a list of contacts, torches, wind up radio and yes, some toilet rolls! Etc.

The grab list includes passports, phone chargers, glasses, bottled water and so on.

It's just in case we are evacuated due to a gas leak or need to leave quickly due a flood etc. It's quick and saves the panic.

If WW3 starts and we are all nuked, I'll just be annoyed in the few seconds before the bomb hits that I wasted a lot of money saving into a pension!

Yep, just this 😊 and thinking why didn’t I just book that trip and worry about the cost later……

I admit that I do have 10 x two litre bottles of water and a pack of 12 “normal” sized bottles…..but this is because last year my area lost water for 4 days and this year the neighbouring town were out (or at least on and off) for nearly a fortnight. Didn’t realise how much it took just to flush the toilet. So I’ve got water stashed at the ready just in case. Nothing to do with prepping for war (apart from maybe war with the water company perhaps)

We have got a wind up radio which doubles as a torch and can also charge phones. We also have a wind up torch and a head torch. Last year our water was cut off which wasn’t fun so we stocked up on 2l bottles of water which came in handy last week when we had a leak coming in through our kitchen ceiling. We had to turn off the water and the downstairs electrics.

Bug out bag is useful. I had one during covid and packed it for any possible hospital trip mainly. There's no clothes in it, but a list of clothes for each of us. So when I had a suspected stroke, I only needed to add my clothes. I have power bank, phone charger and leads, books, snacks, chrochet, wash kit etc.

@IncessantNameChanger my cousin has a bag like this for fires (she lives in California) but she said the best tip she had for clothes was, if you have to evacuate in a rush, grab your dirty laundry basket as it's likely to have clothes for a couple of days for your whole family, and things you wear regularly and are from the right season.

Oh that's a good idea. We have only been "evacuated" once. We was on holiday in the UK and told we might like to go to a local shelter. Something got lost in the message and we thought it was optional so didn't go. A night to remember.

Threat of flooding in a serious storm. We was asked if we wanted to go to a shelter due to a incoming storm. It seemed optional, mild, we was on holiday so had both had a drink, three young kids in bed and no idea where the shelter was. This seemed OK in the response to the people who told us.

Woke up to see our holiday destination on the morning BBC 1 news as a total evacuation as the sea wall was under threat of collapse! We was the only people who stayed it seemed and wasn't told the sea defences was about to go and sweep everything out to sea.

The next morning in the daylight we saw everyone coming back. If they had told us 'the sea defence is under threat' we would have walked to the shelter. All was good but one of the most scary nights of my life. I'd say we laugh now, but it's a bit of a nervous "what the hell was we thinking?" Laugh

Apologies for my late reply! OMG - that sounds horrendous and terrifying! I can't believe that you were not forced to evacuate - it sounds utterly irresponsible that nobody told you just how serious this situation was - you could have all died FGS!! Good job you stayed safe (more by luck than management)...
