Does anyone else find tv sex and/or porn repulsive?

Wildviolet · 02/03/2026 08:48

Is it just me which fast forwards or mutes and looks away for tv sex scenes?

This being so, obviously porn is not my thing either.

I long for the days when sex, if an essential part of the plot, was just implied without all the heaving and pumping.

I don’t find it in the least sexy, more cringe worthy.

Basquervill · 02/03/2026 12:58

the implicit assumption is that I, the audience, want to intrude on the sexual intimacy of others. I truly resent being imposed on by this compulsory voyeurism. I don’t want to be forced to be complicit with exhibitionism, either. It offends me hugely.

Laiste · 02/03/2026 13:00

Prosthetic arseholes and bath sex ?!

I don't watch much telly what am i missing ?!🤣

Laiste · 02/03/2026 13:03

I do agree that as the production team of most films and programs are largely men we probably get a male fantasy driven agenda.

There is a lot of sex against walls and carrying about and the wee women wandering about in The Big Man's shirt/t shirt afterwards.

🙄

Wildviolet · 02/03/2026 13:08

The other thing I notice more and more in tv drama is scenes of people (usually women) sat on the toilet.
Why???

OP posts:
BlueSlate · 02/03/2026 13:09

I've told my partner I'm not watching any sex/nudity in films unless the naked exposure of the sexes is equal.

Female nudity and female exposed sex scenes where the male nudity is obscured? I'm obviously not the intended audience 🤷🏻‍♀️

But I avoid it in general necause it's just dull and awkward. I dont watch anything with sex in the opening scenes because it's usually a declaration that it's a shit film with a shit plot, poor acting and a dubious script but, don't worry, you'll get to see plenty of TnA 🥱

Some men fetishise it 🤷🏻‍♀️

NotMyRealAccount · 02/03/2026 13:11

I can't be bothered with explicit on-screen sex. Absolutely no problem with descriptions of sexual acts in books, no matter how improbable or unpleasant they are.

MyOpalCat · 02/03/2026 13:17

yep - tends to be very boring especially of overly long so will fast forward or go make a cup of tea. Can be vey awkward when have multiple family members - teens to DGP watching something on TV.

I mind it much less in books - though even there can skip through to actual plot when it seems superfluous or badly written which can be another issue.

SodOffbacktoaibu · 02/03/2026 13:20

I've found it has got a lot more gratuitous. Bridgerton is totally cringey. I also find that I don't want to watch young people having sex in a gratuitous way especially. It feels way too voyeuristic and I don't like it. I'm a fifty year old woman. I don't want to see a twenty year old shagging.

Industry S1 was way too much as well. I felt like a perv!

Not a prude and not a porn user, but I really don't need the level of obvious stuff that's around these days.

WatchingWong · 02/03/2026 13:23

Porn, yes. TV not really. Well, I say that, but I think it's largely unnecessary and, yes, pretty cringe, but it doesn't repulse me or anything. I just find it rather dull and think they could move on pretty swiftly from it to something more interesting.

Same. I'm 50 and there seems to he a lot of 'teen sex' or teenage girl wandering around in her knickers for no reason type stuff.

I really don't feel comfortable looking at naked teenagers or young adults. And I don't want to see them having sex.

We watched something recently and when it got to a lengthy shot of a teenage boy wanking, I just went to bed. Grim.

I dont know. The long protracted bath scene in this most recent series of Bridgerton was terrible. I fast forwarded it. As I did with with the raunchy scenes with the other siblings. I am with you OP. I just don't have any interest in the TnA a la Brigerton/Game of Thrones/Outlander.

But there's a big difference between simply not being interested and finding it 'repulsive' and having to look away.

Industry made me feel queasy in parts which was a shame as in general a good drama.
I don’t watch Bridgerton because it seems to be nothing but sex in costumes.

I am glad you started this thread OP. I thought my feelings of not liking film sex would be thought ridiculous. It is nice to find out I’m not in the least alone.

paulhollywoodshairgel · 02/03/2026 13:38

I find porn abhorrent. It’s something that my dh and I often argue about. It’s degrading for women and I feel like as a husband and father or teenage girl he should have more respect. TV sex doesn’t bother me as much as it’s not ‘real’

BauhausOfEliott · 02/03/2026 13:39

ScrollingLeaves · 02/03/2026 12:32

And against the wall sex is extremely popular on screen.

It's quite popular in my house too, to be fair

Jane143 · 02/03/2026 13:41

Lennonjingles · 02/03/2026 11:25

I don’t mind them, I know it’s staged, but DH winds it on if he can. I just hope that people watching these scenes don’t think it’s the norm in a relationship ie endless long sex sessions with partners and think they have to live up to the same expectations.

I agree. It’s just so staged and noisy and they orgasm in about 30 seconds. It’s not like real sex at all and it’s worrying to think the younger generation are growing up thinking it’s what sex is like

Jane143 · 02/03/2026 13:43

TheMorgenmuffel · 02/03/2026 11:58

Yes.
Porn is revolting and exploitative and is causing actual harm to women. women are being choked and needing rectal surgery because extreme porn is so mainstream these days! That is horrifying.

Tv sex is ridiculous. A bit of thrusting, lots of moaning and they both climax at the same time.

Both completely unrealistic in two very different ways. Both intended for men's pleasure.

On screen kissing irritates the crap out of me. Slurping and smacking. Disgusting noises.

And dont get me started on the lean in complete with the whispering.

Absolutely!

I’m with you, I don’t mind a subtle sex scene, kissing etc with rest implied. I think films like atonement are good examples of this, you know they had super hot sex in the library without gratuitous nudity. I do not need to see anyone’s breasts, arse or genitals. There was an actress over the weekend talking about how she’d had to use a prosthetic arsehole for her new movie. Not porn. Mainstream. Why is that necessary?

That was for a childbirth scene I believe. Not a sexual one.

Obviously you can still argue it was unnecessary, but it’s just not the same kind of scene.

ScrollingLeaves · 02/03/2026 13:51

BauhausOfEliott · 02/03/2026 13:39

How thrilling for you.

DojaPussy · 02/03/2026 13:52

I hate it in books and find it mostly unnecessary to the plot. I know some people read books mainly for the sex scenes (books for that purpose) but I usually find it’s just an interruption from the story and I want to get back to it.

I listen to a lot of audiobooks and that’s worse then reading and very awkward to listen to in public but at least easy to fast forward!

Sex scenes in films and tv programmes is just unrealistic and the kissing noises trigger my misophonia.
Abby and Karl kissing on coronation street used to make me feel so angry with whoever thought people wanted to watch that 😂

Fair enough. I heard about it via a comedy show, they were joking the new movie was Stuart little and the mystery cave!

If I’m honest I don’t want to see an actress’ prosthetic anus during the throes of childbirth or of passion. If that makes me a prude so be it,

BauhausOfEliott · 02/03/2026 14:23

ScrollingLeaves · 02/03/2026 13:51

Oh, do relax. I was simply making the point that it's not unrealistic.

On screen, it's just visual shorthand to indicate a sudden intense passion. It's to tell you something about what the couple feel for one another at that point in the plot, as opposed to, say, a scene where they cuddle on a sofa and then sweetly go upstairs together hand in hand.

SundayBells · 02/03/2026 15:10

"If I’m honest I don’t want to see an actress’ prosthetic anus during the throes of childbirth or of passion. If that makes me a prude so be it"

It's for that reason alone that I only watch Homes Under the Hammer and Antiques Road Trip.

LindorDoubleChoc · 02/03/2026 15:31

That sex scene they shoe horned in to The Night Manager recently was gratuitous, embarrassing and unintentionally funny all at the same time.

I've noticed separately that no American TV series or drama is complete without quite a lot of sex.
