And that you can no longer just listen to without thinking of something else!
They may have a slight lyric change as in my first example below.

I’m probably not explaining too well so I’ll give you examples…

Rush Hour by Jane Weidlin instantly takes me to Capital Radio in the 1980s and Chris Tarrant’s breakfast show jingle

Here Comes the Sun by The Beatles and I’m taken to Sunday teatime as a child watching Holiday

There are more but that’s a start!
Anyone else?!

It’s not a pop song, but The Israelites always makes me start singing OooOoo Vitalite!

billandtedsexcellentadventure · 28/02/2026 13:59

Take that, shine and Morrisons

Bruisername · 28/02/2026 14:21

When I was a kid there was a famous opera song used to advertise yoghurt and whenever I hear it I can’t help singing along in my head

Dairy Farm yoghurt is very good for you! Try some and see. Buy 2 or 3

Wake Up Boo! by the Boo Radleys was used as the Big Breakfast theme song. I don't know if this helped the band's career but should have temporarily benefitted their bank balance. Crap song anyway.

The New Order song, True Faith. I loved it ever since it came out in the 80s. But it was used in the Netflix programme Don’t F$ck With Cats, and now whenever I hear the song I can only think of cats being tortured.

Me too and I always think of the dancing sunflower in the advert.

It's what Desmond Dekka would have wanted.

NeedToKnow101 · 28/02/2026 14:36

Things can only get better D:Ream forever linked to Blair’s Labour winning the general election.

a-Ha - Sun Always Shines on Sorreen (malt loaf)

onelumporthree · 28/02/2026 14:49

Town Called Malice by The Jam will now and forever remind me of the miners' strike in the 80's. Anyone who has ever watched the film Billy Elliot will know why.

Haha! I remember the Chris Tarrant jingle. At the end the woman would say, “ he’s so hunky!” 😂😂😂

Another radio advert on Capital was London Car Telephone. To the tune of Hanging on the Telephone by Blondie

keiratwiceknightly · 28/02/2026 14:56

The Vitalite as to the tune of Ooh Israelites. Old but Gold.

keiratwiceknightly · 28/02/2026 15:00

And now I’ve realised about 3 people already had that thought, I can’t hear Kate Bush’s Wuthering Heights without thinking of Mary from Horrible Histories.

gillybombilly · 28/02/2026 15:01

I was just thinking about this yesterday!

It was Perry Como singing ‘Magic Moments’ that was used for a Quality Street advert that came to mind.

Take That’s ‘Shine’ always reminds me of Morrisons now, and also various Queen songs that are used for other adverts too.

WhatFlavourIsIt · 28/02/2026 15:11

D-Ream Things can only get better
Blair the snake oil salesman ruined that song forever.

He originally sold his song to the advert company that sold tape casettes. They had someone holding up the lyrics on paper completely wrong. 'me ears are alight'. In the 80s. Maxell tape or something? And that was also a rip off of a Bob Dylan video I think?

"Jessica" by the Allman Brothers Band ?

losttheplot25 · 28/02/2026 16:49

Can't remember what the band were called but the song was called "put your hands on".
It will always be "its your letters" to me off Chris Evans TFI Friday or whatever it was called.

CurlyKoalie · 28/02/2026 16:54

Air on a G string- Hamlet cigar advert.
Largo from New World Symphony - Hovis advert.
Other ear worm advert tunes
R Whites Lemonade. " I'm a secret Lemonade drinker....."
" A finger of fudge is just enough to give your kids a treat..."
"I'd like to buy the world a Coke"

Theyreeatingthedogs · 28/02/2026 19:38

Tina Turner's, Simply the Best.
Arrogant Huns.

ExcellentDaydream · 28/02/2026 19:53

Oh those London Car Telephone ads did my head in.

Hazelnuticecream · 28/02/2026 19:57

Yes to Vitalite and D:Ream
Tubthumping by Chumbawamba came up on my playlist today and I realised it now always makes me think of the Children in Need medley with all the kids TV characters some years ago
The Chain - F1

thesnailandthewhale · 28/02/2026 19:59

The one in the Jet2 ad
