Yes I’ve got a couple of these. They’re quite nice.
One is in one of my spare rooms but the one I sleep under is pretty good tbh.

BestBefore2000 · 27/02/2026 23:28

@Lonelycrab I've also got two. One for myself and one for my cat. She absolutely loves it.

TenaAngst · 27/02/2026 23:29

It’s legitimate ethically sourced down - hence the price.

@BruceAndNosh I'm off to put it in my basket. Just for fun 😆 Let's all do the same and see what happens!!!

This would be so funny

ForeverDelayedEpiphany · 27/02/2026 23:31

Can you hire one from somewhere instead?. I mean, for that price, I would definitely need to try before I buy.

You'd need to know you were getting your money's worth.

OTOH, you just pay £25 for a cheapo one from The Range and the other few grand on an actual duck that would be much cuter.

As my youngest daughter says, "What the duck..!"

INeedAnotherName · 27/02/2026 23:35

It is filled with the unique down from the Eider duck, which is hand collected

So it's a real eiderdown and not a duvet then.

Circlesquaretriangle · 27/02/2026 23:36

What the fuck is Emperor size? !! Or is that one made from the nests of Emperor penguins?! Yeah, before anyone says it, I know they carry their eggs around between their feet!😅

Cyclistmumgrandma · 28/02/2026 00:00

Saw these being made when I was in Iceland. Yes, they genuinely are this expensive. The down is amazingly soft but I still couldn’t justify that price. I’m currently snuggled under a wool
and cashmere mix duvet which was quite pricey enough!

Gatekeeper · 28/02/2026 00:05

And for those that don't know...you NEED to Google Eider duck calls. They are the sounds that Mumsnetters are making when looking at the price Grin
.

onelumporthree · 27/02/2026 21:09

I saw a programme once about the eiderdown industry in Iceland (yes my telly viewing is that random) and it is pretty much a cottage industry and all done by hand. They have to collect the down from the eider duck nests after the ducklings have fledged and then process it, and there are regulations about how much they can take and the quality of it, sustainable harvesting etc. It is a very scarce and high quality product, and that accounts for the price.

However it doesn't account for why anyone would be insane enough to pay the price. I could be the wealthiest person in the world and would still be happy with a normal feather/down duvet.

Wtfdoidoplease · 28/02/2026 00:10

Does this mean I should take my nan’s old eiderdown quilt out of the bin bag it’s currently living in?

Cryingatthegym · 28/02/2026 00:10

And here I was chuffed with my new £16 one from The Range.

ReleaseTheDucksOfWar · 28/02/2026 00:14

Oh my!

Last week we were in Iceland and being a bit eccentric, slept with the window open. It was -12 in the daytime before wind chill, so it must have been really cold at night.

We wondered how come our feather duvets kept us toasty warm even in such icy temperatures - they must have been these! (The airbnb was owned by very hard working and practical but very well off people).

MakeMineAMilkyTea · 28/02/2026 00:16

I’ve been known to spend ££££ on bedding but even if I won big on the lottery there would be no way on earth I could justify that without having tried it beforehand! For that price I’d have to have the best nights sleep of my life under it!

ReleaseTheDucksOfWar · 28/02/2026 00:22

I'm awed now. My god. We slept under these eiderdown duvets .... had no idea :o

... we should have left everything we owned there and just packed the duvets in our cases shouldnt we?

PyongyangKipperbang · 28/02/2026 00:45

plantsandwich · 27/02/2026 21:12

Being a vegan I'd never buy a feather duvet anyway but even if it wasn't morals, an ex of mine once had terrible earache for months, and then one day felt something and proceeded to pull a very slimy, greasy strand of a feather from her ear.
Since then feathers make me shudder. Wouldn't take that if you gave it me for nothing!

But really, realistically, my current duvet was bought for about £20 from eBay when I was skint having had to 'start again' on my own about 6 years ago. I could afford a new one now and could within a couple of years of that period but it does the job so I haven't. Duvets are a much of a muchness for me as I have had much more expensive ones in the past.

Whats being vegan got to do with it?

I get the ick about feathers, but this is made with the discarded down from birds that have flown, no bird is suffering. The down is left behind by the birds and then collected. So what is the issue?

Happyjoe · 28/02/2026 00:48

£10k, it really is a different world for some isn't it? I wouldn't spend £100 on a duvet!

gototogo · 28/02/2026 00:55

I hesitated over spending £30 as they had a £20
one! I’m also allergic to feathers, my then dp now dh had to get rid of his favourite pillow, that’s love!

Needspaceforlego · 28/02/2026 00:57

Look up Brinkhaus £30k for a duvet. JL is a high street bargain

Defender90 · 28/02/2026 01:01

I though Ach at least the king is only £9700 ish as I pulled over my forgarty duvet and Dunelm extra throw for the cold nights total cost circa £60.

omg if I had that money it wouldn’t be going on a duvet!

xogossipgirlxo · 28/02/2026 01:01

ActoBelle · 27/02/2026 20:56

One of the reviews says they’re going to buy a second one!

Maybe they still have some cash left in piggy bank

AndrewFormallyKnownAsPrince · 28/02/2026 01:02

MooFroo · 27/02/2026 21:12

😳😳

you could buy 2 singles and sew them together to save yourself £245 off a superking size 🤣🤣 bargain at £9870!

JL is in Primark territory compared to that!

CatsAreBetterThanMen · 28/02/2026 01:27

In my opinion people that spend ten grand on a duvet are utterly void of morality and have no comprehension of how ordinary people live.

Makes me think of the coffee beans shat out by by wee weasels, rich people would literally eat and drink poo if it's marketed as rare and expensive.

Ethical my arse! it's never ethical to spend in excess of £10,000 on a duvet when children in this country lack recourse to decent food, education and healthcare.

I dont disagree with you. But the sort of person who can afford to drop £10k on a duvet isnt seeing £10k as a lot of money.

To them its the equivalent of you or I spending £10. Its a world we will never live in or understand. And lets be honest, they are not going to think "hmm......hugely expensive luxury item or funding food for underfed kids for year...which shall I choose?" are they? If they dont buy the duvet then they just dont buy the duvet, nothing else in the world will change, except possibly job losses on the part of the poor (underpaid) buggers who make them.

ETA my favourite quote ever was George Mole in one of the Adrian Mole books..."some people would stick tenners up their bums if you told them it was fashionable". Sadly true.
