I read up to silver fox and then had to bail

I read up to him being “the adult in the room” when I see that phrase I know that’s me out.

TheNuthatch · 03/03/2026 20:57

Silver fox? 🤢🤮

What do they think Starmer has actually achieved with his dithering, and delaying the use of airbases?

So Starmer didn't allow the US to use Chagos in the first wave.

Trump still bombed Iran.
Iran still bombed UK assets in the region. 🤷‍♂️

@TheNuthatch one hopes someone like amanado annucixi (sp) the death of Stalin is using all this material ! But it's all happening so fast he's probably struggling with the volume !!

That was me talking about him

I don't know if he's working on anything at the moment, as he said, we are beyond satire

Reminds me of that book title, the one by Zizek "first as tragedy, then as farce". Was that a book title or am I imagining it?

Although the farce is a tragedy!

@NoWordForFluffy I was thinking specifically of the Boriswave - I think KB needs to say that that was a mistake, but that would take her firmly into Reform
Territory and I suppose she doesn't want to go there.

I didn't know they had cats on the other thread, I love cats but I suppose I better not look there, because it will drive me nuts.

justasking111 · 03/03/2026 21:24

The democrats here and across the pond have the luxury of slagging off politicians because of leadership during the second world war.

Most are poorly informed unfortunately.

@EmeraldRoulette Cat lover here too.

Albertroad · 03/03/2026 21:34

It seems to me that the Left are so blinkered by the hate they have for Trump and and Reform , they can see nothing else.

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 03/03/2026 21:49

We should always recognise that MN, like any forum, talks to itself. And that any one poster can present - almost certainly wrongly - as representative of general opinion. That applies to these anti-Labour threads as much as it does any other thread.

BUT, the pro-Labour threads are currently way out there, even if you discount the echo chamber effect. The crap they are writing about Starmer’s ‘good’ judgement in the present conflict is truly laughable. So is the idea that it’s terrible for any leader to be furious about Starmer’s pathetic response to an attack on one of the world’s worst regimes.

The most risible thing is how ‘clever’ some of the Labour supporters suppose they are.

JaneV1984Madness · 03/03/2026 22:00

@Albertroad agree.
It shows how easily people can become brain washed and easily programmed.

Interesting analysis I just saw on BBC a commentator said this is about more then Iran in terms of upsetting Putin's supplies of drones but also Putin's money flows between him and Iran and oil flows and china also.

Eyes are definatly on this china and Russia which is why I think it's important to show a strong unified powerful front.

justasking111 · 03/03/2026 22:09

A friend's daughter worked for the BBC for three years. Her views on politics shifted radically. Her parents intelligent and questioning politically said she'd caught Londonitis badly. Her father's family had fled Eastern Europe when wealthy catholics became persona non grata.

JaneV1984Madness · 03/03/2026 22:16

"the silver fox adult in the room " who has enraged our closest unstable partner!!

redange · 03/03/2026 22:20

The Labour Party of Clem Atlee and Nye Bevan post 1945 were very pro American believed in putting UK interests first by military action if needed. There were also 1 million miles away from this incarnation of this Labour Party in terms of domestic policies and the interests of the indigenous population of these isles.

Historically, it could be argued that it was the Conservative Party who first showed weakness and indecisive policy planning in the shape of Anthony Eden and the Suez- Crisis in 1956 !

Suez was a mess

Qatar jets are bombing Iran tonight. They've arrested two sleeper cells who were spying.

I am going to open up a debate by suggesting that if Militancy , Union Power and Communist Sympathies had not taken over the Labour Party and the Labour Party had stayed true to its roots. You would have a party resembling the 'Reform Party'! This is despite being called an 'Extreme Right Wing Party' Bevan& Atlee would have labeled the Green Party as Communists...

OP posts:
redange · 03/03/2026 22:38

You would today have a Labour Party called 'Reform'....

Blair was the last pro business labour leader.

justasking111 · 04/03/2026 08:41

Blair was the last pro business labour leader.

He enjoyed that higher risk exposure boom which became a crash and stuck stuff on off book credit with PFI but yes I agree he was far better with business.

He had a much greater understanding of what motivates growth than this lot. What surprises me is businesses couldn’t see the signs that Starmer and co were far removed from that.

I guess they sold in some lies, the media stirred the rest and now they regret backing them.

DancingFerret · 04/03/2026 09:23

I suspect Reeves will use this current war as an excuse to raise taxes "just a little bit more".

redange · 04/03/2026 10:16

There is no greater indictment to the 'shit' this country is in than the results of the pop up on the Sky News You Tube Channel which asks: do you agree or disagree with Starmer's Approach to actions in the Gulf. 52% of people agree with his 'Cowardly' approach and only 48% can see the lunacy and cowardice in his actions.

Dr Philip Kiszely from the New Culture Foundation speaking on Talk Radio last night suggested that Starmer's actions are more about the fear of huge scale disturbances from the Islamic Population. He, has no appetite to deal with the ongoing issues among these groups and instead takes a out of sight out of mind approach to the obvious problems. This, seen even last night when he chose to speak at a Ramadan event at Westminster Hall when given the events should have cancelled his appearance at such a Political and religious event.

The, man has just been a catastrophic disaster from the moment he became Prime Minister and unquestionably is the worst Prime Minister I have any knowledge of . I believe his intention is to cause damage to the United Kingdom, whereas other 'poor' PM's have not intentionally caused damage, but bad decisions and international events have !

How is it possible to have such an unpopular government running the country. It is absolutely no surprise they only have 16% of the vote, in fact if anything I would have thought it would be closer to 0%. The country is in the worst state of my lifetime, it is beyond belief the extra damage that labour have done since they came into power and everything continues to get worse for those of us who are working and paying taxes. Not to mention Council Tax. Ours went up 9.9% this year and 9.7% this year with zero services provided to us. We pay £450 a month in Council Tax. My husband is retired and I work part time for minimum wage. We have no money for socialising, eating out, we haven't been on a holiday for years. We live frugally. It is all very very depressing and I don't think that the UK will ever recover from this, it has been completely destroyed.

YouGov (@YouGov) on X

Our latest voting intention (1-2 March 2026) has the Greens on their highest figure ever recorded by YouGov, significantly ahead of Labour, who are on their lowest figure to date Reform UK: 23% (-1 from 22-23 Feb) Greens: 21% (+4) Conservatives: 16% (...

@redange agree re reform and labour ..
Corbyn famously helped Brexit to happen.his politics wouldn't agree with undercutting wages

Pacificsunshine · 04/03/2026 11:20

Am I the only one getting increasingly worried about a grand coalition of the Left?

It really looks like half the country thinks that the problem is that Labour isn’t going far enough.
