A few months back according to the media it was Reform's for the taking - now it's a three-way bet between Labour, Greens and Reform

Yes, the majority in this country are on the left. We're going to need to vote tactically in the future to keep Reform out. They're the minority and Farage is so toxic his support does have a ceiling. As long as we vote tactically we can keep Reform out.

Which is brilliant. Nigel has demonstrably done enough harm in this country with the disastrous Brexit. How much more proof do we need? It hasn’t done anything to curb immigration and has been ruinous economically.

So pleased enough people are finally saying up yours Farage. It’s a vote for people looking forwards rather than backwards to some mythical past. It’s also a vote for more collectivism as a country and less me, me, me by people who are quite happy to use the NHS and claim any benefit going but don’t want a welfare state for the future as they try to dodge paying tax.

Questionable like Reform appealing to white right-wing voters on the sole issue of kicking out illegal immigrants?

No, because that’s not at odds with their worldview is it?

Why shouldn’t illegal immigrants be kicked out in your opinion?

Who is dodging paying tax? Can you elaborate?

Sorry, yet again, you're wrong, as you were on growth figures recently.

Reporting to the volunteers in the polling station is NOT the same as reporting to the authorities.
He can report without making public comment.

I quote:
The officer responsible for running the by-election rejected the claims, saying no reports of family voting had been made by polling station staff

A spokesperson for the acting returning officer said: "Polling station staff are trained to look out for any evidence of undue influence on voters.
"No such issues have been reported today.

"If Democracy Volunteers were so concerned about alleged issues they could and should have raised them with us during polling hours so that immediate action could be taken.
"We have operated a central by-election hub which has been rapidly responding to reported issues during the day, in liaison with the police - who had a presence at every polling station - where necessary.

"It is extremely disappointing that Democracy Volunteers have waited until after polls have closed to make such claims."

A spokesperson for the Electoral Commission, which oversees elections in the UK, said: "We are aware of the report. Electoral offences are a matter for the police. We encourage anyone who believes an offence has occurred to report it to the police.

"The statutory electoral observer Code of Practice says that electoral observers may bring potential irregularities, fraud or significant problems to the attention of elected officials on the spot"

Looks very much like they have an axe to grind or don't know the very rules they (unofficially) seek to uphole.

Edited

So let's establish some points:
the Democracy Volunteers did report cases of "family voting " offences to polling station staff whilst polling was open
Polling station staff did not report any cases of family voting to the Polling Officer, either that they witnessed or that was reported to them by Democracy Volunteers.
The Code of Practice says that volunteers should bring instances of irregularities to the attention of polling station staff on the spot, which they did.

Regarding your comment that Democracy Volunteers falsely made"have an axe to grind", ie they are not a neutral observer- do have any links or evidence to back this up. And why after observing elections from the US to Kazakhstan they have only been accused of political bias in the Gorton and Denton by election.

Where did I say the issue of illegal immigrants shouldn't be tackled?

You can be sure that if the results were 50% of them thought homosexuality should be illegal, there would be very few people crowing "But 50% of them don't".

The Left needs its head examining when it comes to the Muslim vote.

Oh, i thought Reform have a practicing Muslim in their leading team.... Home Affairs and head of policy no less....

& its Reform that wishes to revoke the Equality Act... the first step to removing rights.

TopPocketFind · 27/02/2026 09:36

Sore loser and very bad at maths Matty is

Speaking to journalists, Matt Goodwin says Reform were beaten by “a coalition of Islamists and woke progressives that came together to dominate the constituency.”

He says “I don’t think the progressives beat us, I think the progressives were told how to vote.”

Homophobia is very worrying. The threat is coming from the global far right, not a by-election won by a party led by a gay man. HTH.

I know. It’s laughable for Reform voters to bleat about any kind of phobia or - ism…Or that Greens couldn’t run the country. Reform couldn’t run a school tuck shop. A leader with one of the worst voting records as an MEP in history who is hardly ever working for his own constituents as an MP.

Nige is only working for Nige and his uber-rich buddies.

Tories on Sky in a moment... if anyone wants a morning chuckle....

The official opposition party lost its deposit. That's shocking! (Stifles giggle 🤭)

So you don’t find it troubling that half of Muslims think homosexuality should be illegal ‘cos something else’?

Just catching up on the Radio 4 Today programme where Nick Robinson is roasting Zac Polanski. Didn’t know about photos of Narendra Modi in the Green’s election leaflets. Plus I didn’t know that the Green’s intend to legalise cocaine.

Interesting!

When was that broadcast? Would be interested to listen to it.

Btw I’m not a Reform voter, and have been very vocal on here for a long time against Reform if you don’t believe me.

Their ‘plan’ is to tax billionaires.

Do you know how long their money could prop up our economy if we confiscated all their wealth (not just taxed them more)?

7 months. Thats all.

Don’t ridiculous. That’s not their only plan. Calm down and try reading some facts.

Nope, the Guardian also. Endless Farage. I happen to think the Greens are at least as dangerous as Reform.

I don’t mind them tbf

Labour losing in third is worth it. If it doesn’t cause ructions the May elections probably will.

Who is dodging paying tax? Can you elaborate?

Yes. People who get paid cash in hand. And people who do things like putting their house in their children’s name while still living in it. Or putting their pension in their children’s name to avoid inheritance tax. Yet still get every benefit or NHS treatment going. And then complain about immigrants leaching off our country. Many of whom have voted Tory for decades so they can pay less tax while still looking forward to their triple lock pension at 65.

It was this morning’s Today programme on Radio 4. About an hour and 35 minutes in. I was catching up on the app (BBC Sounds).

I’m still flabbergasted about the cocaine thing!

While I haven’t been following the by-election in detail, I think the other political parties would do well to analyse what Hannah Spencer said in her victory speech about working hard, aspiration and the White working class. On this issue she reminded me of Margaret Thatcher. Too often working class is used in political circles interchangeably with people claiming means tested benefits, but as the new MP understands, you can be working class, ambitious and self sufficient, without denigrating those that genuinely need some support.

IMO we need a new category - I would suggest the non-working class. IMO to equate ‘working class’ with those wholly dependent on benefits is an insult to a great many people.

And while I’m at it, I do wish Starmer et al would stop referring to ‘working people’. As long as they don’t use the supremely condescending term ‘ordinary people’ instead!

I've got some facts.

Zack thinks we don't need to worry about the bond markets because he doesn't understand that we've borrowed money from overseas investors. He thinks we only owe money to the Bank of England and that if we run out, we can just print some more.

He thinks because Japan has a debt twice the size of ours, we can do the same. He doesn't understand why that would be a problem for the UK but it's not for Japan.

What do you think of those facts?

MikeRafone · 27/02/2026 09:48

TeenagersAngst · 27/02/2026 07:14

‘It’s not about policy’

Ive heard it all now.

We’re electing a member of Parliament, for Christ’s sake. That used to mean something.

This is tactical voting - like it or not its happening, people that voted labour will vote green as it sends a message (as they see it) to those in power that previously had their vote - we are dissatisfied with you running the country. They also know that if they vote labour it may lead to reform gaining an MP so they vote Green, to keep reform out

I’m sure Starmer bristling and feeling the threat over all this will be enjoyable.

So you don’t find it troubling that half of Muslims think homosexuality should be illegal ‘cos something else’?

Reminder: it was 500 Muslims saying that out of a poll of 1,000 Muslims out of a population of 3.9 million Muslims out of the overall UK population of 68.8 million. Stop trying to pretend Muslims have the voter clout to overturn LGBTQ+ protections in the UK.

Be careful what you wish for. The Greens have some worrying policies which would really destabilise our economy if they ever got near power or in coalition.
