Why were the hockey team given McDonalds at the White House?

Leaving aside all the other talk about the visit, why were they given McDonald's?

Presumably that's a deliberate choice for some sort of PR reason, but what?

If you were "honoured" with a lunch at Downing Street, wouldn't you at least expect a proer meal?

It's probably more because that's what the Oraneg Sexpest likes to eat so therefore everyone else MUST eat it and like because he can't be wrong! He has THE BEST taste ever. Just look at the wonderful job he's done in redecorating the Oval Office and demolishing that dumb tacky rose garden planted by Jackie Kennedy.

I once saw a video where people tried the food from his restaurant (the menu and recipes were hand chosen by The Tangerine One) and they said it was awful. There was so much dressing on the salad they could squeeze it out of the lettuce. Ick.

I am guessing McDonald's made a lot of donations to his campaign. Trump is not a man who represents all Americans from what I can tell, it's either you are for me or against me. He wouldn't give publicity to anyone who was against him. So I'm guessing McDonald's and Trump are in each other's pockets

WeirdyBeardyMarrowBabyLady · 26/02/2026 15:32

I’m sure I’ve read that he eats loads of it himself. Something about hygiene standards but also being able to sue them if he’s poisoned. I may have imagined it

GasPanic · 26/02/2026 15:32

It's a common thing for US presidents to like a burger.

If you google Obama and burger you'll see he was pretty up for a burger.

He even recommended Five Guys to Cameron, who went for one in Solihull.

A good burger is really good. Problem is, for me at least, most of the popular fast food chains don't really serve good burgers.

RoastBanana · 26/02/2026 15:32

To give Americans the impression that eating processed filthy slop is healthy & normal.

Just another marketing initiative aimed at selling health destroying products to an exploited people.

Surprised they didn’t spray them with Round Up while they were about it. Missed opportunity there.

From Time magazine:

As to why Trump loves McDonald’s—and fast food in general—so much, there are multiple, seemingly related explanations. In his 2018 book Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House, author Michael Wolff said Trump “had a longtime fear of being poisoned.” When he ate at McDonald’s, Wolff relayed Trump’s thinking, “nobody knew he was coming and the food was safely premade.”
Trump, for his part, has justified his tastes by citing the standards of food preparation. “I’m a very clean person. I like cleanliness, and I think you’re better off going there than maybe someplace that you have no idea where the food’s coming from. It’s a certain standard,”

Nah he will probably have hired some McDs staff in to make it fresh on the premises

He set up a pop up McDonald's for them. That's nice of him. I bet he didn't.

momtoboys · 26/02/2026 16:01

The imbecile president feels that is a posh meal. Just thinking about him makes me homicidal. 😂

GoldenCupsatHarvestTime · 26/02/2026 16:03

Because DT eats McDonalds every lunch apparently

mindutopia · 26/02/2026 17:03

I wouldn’t eat McDonald’s if it was free and not even a reward for something exciting. If I performed such an incredible feat like winning an Olympic medal, someone better do better than the meal from the M5 services that I’d do just about anything to avoid. I’d appreciate a nice filet though. Maybe a lobster?

Autonomouse · 26/02/2026 18:39

Because DJT is known to prefer fast foods like M'D, KFC, Wendy's and Burger King over refined and gourmet cuisine, that's why, and who better from the guest list to enjoy the same, as a sport team of young men?
Don't worry about it being 'cold' he would have it made on the premise, eww can you imagine, cold greasy burgers and soggy shriveled buns?

plutosache · 26/02/2026 18:47

I’d be happy with McD and a fun visit. However, I would have thought athletes are very careful with food.

Yes, a Bigly Mac 🍔

CharlotteStreetW1 · 26/02/2026 19:26

Tim Horton was of course a hockey player himself.

Because every single person in the room has the maturity of a toddler. It’s really that simple.

They have a kitchen staffed with chefs, they could’ve served a quality burger made with steak mince, in good bread rolls, with hand cut twice cooked fries. But no. Donny brings in plastic garbage food. Because he’s a fuckwit.

Sennelier1 · 27/02/2026 18:58

Because T. isn't capable of eating of a plate using knife and fork. So to keep the meal on his level everybody had to eat hamburgers and fries.

There might be something in that. Given the incessant reports of him not paying sub-contractors for their work over the decades, he's probably run out of proper catering companies that are willing to supply him food without either a) being paid up-front, or b) risking having his food tasting of various forms of bodily fluid.

Overtheatlantic · 27/02/2026 19:13

Brain by Barbie, Body by McDonald’s

Bellavita1519 · 27/02/2026 20:05

And served in the paper wrappers too. Tacky and cheap. Just like FOTUS and his Mrs

pinkypoo8 · 27/02/2026 20:49

Because when they were asked that's what they wanted, haven't you got something more important to ponder?

Trixibell1234 · 27/02/2026 21:07

The President has to pay for all food served at the White House from his own pocket. I did wonder if McDs donated it because he promotes them so much. I’d be surprised if it was requested, I would assume athletes would have asked for something healthier.

You are claiming that the US men's hockey team asked for McDonald's food. How do you know that? Or is that just something you've pulled out of your arse?

binnibonnieboo · 27/02/2026 21:12

I can't imagine being offered anything worse. Maybe Kentucky Fried Chicken?

JarvisIsland · 27/02/2026 21:19

Not that deep anecdote… I’m a hockey player and a McDonald’s is a popular post game treat for the road. A Nando’s would be preferable but Maccies is quick and you can eat it on the coach or in the car easily. I’d take it if I was offered it! Especially if the milkshake machine was working which seems to be a late evening problem in the UK!
