Tell me what you did for your 50th!

Trips, parties, get togethers, adventures

What went really well?
What didn’t go well and why?
Anything you wish you’d done but didn’t?

Thank you!

I just left it low key TBH . Spent the day with husband and children who were early teens. We went for a boat trip on the Thames at Windsor and my friend who works for RF invited us for lunch at her beautiful cottage on the Royal Estate at Windsor.
Met up with friends at our local pub for a few glasses of Fizz in the evening.
Perfect day for me…less is more in my book.

I cycled to the top of the Stelvio pass in the Italian alps on a brompton folding bicycle

BrickBiscuit · 22/02/2026 19:37

Bought myself an expensive cordless drill. Went to work and didn't mention it to anyone. Got home and had the usual family time, nothing special. Normal birthday for me (by choice).

I went on a business class five star hotel trip to Granada with a load of mates. We had an absolute blast, sightseeing, eating and drinking.

Topsy44 · 22/02/2026 19:42

I went out to lunch with 2 friends to a local restaurant and that was it!

I don’t like fuss of any kind so this was perfect for me.

Went to Palma for a few nights with DH and it was bliss. I had a few low key dinners and nights out with separate groups of friends to celebrate. I would have hated a big party.

EmpressaurusKitty · 22/02/2026 19:43

I had a couple of days in Paris followed by the rest of the week by Lake Como. I splashed out for a hotel room with a balcony & lake view & had a fabulous time exploring & relaxing, then went out for a birthday meal with friends when I got home.

My husband is 50 next year and I’m 40

we booked a holiday to Mexico without the kids ! I cant bloody wait!! :)

AfternoonTeaAddict · 22/02/2026 19:47

Mine was a bit rubbish. I just wanted a quiet weekend with my family but an extrovert friend convinced me that i could not possibly turn 50 without meeting up at the pub. She surprised me with 15 other friends (mostly hers) and after a few drinks I felt compelled to foot the bill- all £300 of it that i could not afford.

What didn’t go well? - national lockdown
what did go well - delayed family trip away.daughter ordered a cake and spent a lot of time and effort arranging this which I appreciated.

40th otoh was tremendous - 2 nights in London with dh and 2 close friends. Absolutely loved it. Saw Billy Elliot - mesmerised by it.

YYURYYUCICYYUR4ME · 22/02/2026 19:52

Went to Paris.

Rather a long time has passed since my 50th....however, I decided I'd get all my female friends and family together to have a ladies event. Booked a whole suite at Claridge's, it was a massive apartment with rooms. There was a fabulous dining room, we had our own butler and waitress, food started at 2pm and we were still sitting there chatting, laughing, drinking well into the evening. The hotel had dressed everything up with tablecloths, silver, flowers, it was beautiful. Friends came from all parts of the country and because we were all 'girls together' everyone was friendly and got on. I remember it with real fondness.

DH and I had a joint party - we hired out a room in a local bar, organised a DJ and put some money behind the bar. Our birthdays are a few months apart so it was in between. I enjoyed it a lot (except the hangover the next day!).

Hatty65 · 22/02/2026 19:57

I did a Parkrun. Don't think I did it on my actual birthday, and can't remember what I did to celebrate, but I know I decided about 5 months before I hit 50 that I was going to do C25K because I didnt think I'd ever run 5k in my life. I was the one rolling my eyes, and slouching along the lanes smoking a fag when they made us do cross country at school.

I did manage the C25K quite well, although I never got to enjoying it. Kept it up for about another 6 months running 2 or 3 times a week and then gave up.

We went to Rome for a few days for joint 50th with my husband. Also had a family dinner with my parents and siblings.
We are turning 60 this year. Just organised a surprise party for my husband’s this weekend. Really lovely night.Family and close friends, about 50 people in a private room in a pub with some finger food. Very casual but went really well. We’re going on a two week holiday to Jordan and Mount Sinai in a few weeks. We’ll probably just go out for dinner with the family for mine in a few months

BebbanburgIsMine · 22/02/2026 20:01

Absolutely nothing at all, went to work in the evening as usual.

I had no money to do anything, so just an ordinary day for me. DD bought me a book I wanted.

Deadringer · 22/02/2026 20:02

Went to Paris for the weekend with dh. Decided that if I have to turn 50, I might as well do it in style. Twas fabulous

No way.....! 😟why on earth did you pay the whole bill??

LilyBunch25 · 22/02/2026 20:03

Had a party at home with 12 friends- was a great night!

PersephoneSmith · 22/02/2026 20:04

I went to Iceland on a cruise, it was amazing. Much better than parties (in my opinion!)

Lisanne55 · 22/02/2026 20:05

Takeaway pizza. It was the 2nd lockdown.

winnieanddaisy · 22/02/2026 20:12

I hate being the centre of attention so opted to go on holiday with my DH , DM and her husband, and DFriend and her husband . Two weeks in Benidorm , it was such a laugh . DCs were all adults so had no interest in joining us .
I’m so glad that I did it because my lovely DM died 6 months later .

AlwaysRightISwear · 22/02/2026 20:13

Nothing at all because it was at the height of lockdown.

Had planned a holiday :(

menopausalmare · 22/02/2026 20:15

I had a few catch- ups with friends but I wanted to see a lovely view with my family on the actual day so we went to Box Hill in Surrey.

HeddaGarbled · 22/02/2026 20:16

Med cruise. It was fab.
