Good Morning Mumsnet! What's everyone up to today?

I'm just drinking my first cuppa, in my kitchen spot, as usual. The cats have had their breakfast & gone back upstairs, probably to bed since it's very quiet!

I'm off to meet dd1 on the train to Newcastle in a couple of hours. I booked it from Sheffield because it was cheaper from there than here, so have to travel there first!

Before that, I need to shower and pack though! Dd1's already on the way for her first train of the day - Euston to Birmingham. We're off to a gig to see two smaller indie artists we both follow 🎶.

Dd2's not up yet - I'll see if she is when I go up in ten. If not, she wanted me to wake her up before I leave.

She'll spend the day revising again, no doubt. It's pretty much all she's done this week despite many attempts to convince her to do something else.

What about all of you? 🙂

Good morning! Getting ready to take our new rescued greyhound to the vet for his eye check up. He has pannus so will need eyebrows for life. Then dropping to dc to their dad and I'm off to work. It should be my day off but I realised on Thursday I've been driving around with no mot for 3 days so it was a mad scramble to find a garage and get the car booked in.

Playingvideogames · 21/02/2026 08:39

Hello! Enjoy your trip. We had a pub meal with extended family last night and stayed out ‘late’ (considering we have a 2 year old) so having a lazy morning now. I’m in bed with a coffee and I can hear the kids playing downstairs.

It’s grey and chilly but we will probably wrap up and take the dog to the beach. Have a chicken in the fridge so I will probably do that this afternoon. Otherwise quite a lazy day I think.

QueenStevie · 21/02/2026 08:39

I am still in bed listening to the radio, although I'm a bit newsed out this week. It's been half term and I spent the first few days having a MASSIVE clear out in school. I now need to look at my emails and plan for next week but I'm procrastinating. At the moment I'm enjoying snuggling with a cat. I have been up to feed them and myself but then I snuggled back again!

In bed sick

OchreSwan · 21/02/2026 09:05

Good morning all and enjoy your trip @lucysmam ! I’m in bed having just finished sipping my coffee whilst reading. DP still snoozing next to me.

We’re hosting my parents this evening as they have an event nearby, and my brother is coming along for the ride too. House is mostly tidy but I do need to sort out the mound of recycling before they get here! We’re heading out into central with my brother while my parents are at their event - will grab some food and go to a couple of museums. Hoping that it’s not too busy as it’s half term and the big Lunar New Year celebrations in London today.

We’ll stop by the shop on the way home to pick up stuff for dinner and then probably open some wine and maybe play a board game or watch a film this evening.

Have a good day all, whatever you’re up to!

Good morning @lucysmam & everyone. My day is looking very different as I’ve moved in with my elderly folks for a while to help out. Lots of different emotions & I’m missing DH & DD17, although I’ve popped in twice during the week. I don’t feel brilliant either but hopefully it will pass. Just drinking a cuppa in my little single bed. DF has made a shopping list so I’ll pop out to get the bits he needs later & I have to go to the chemist too. Will pick up a free newspaper from the village shop. DF has a seemingly endless supply of vouchers. My folks can’t be left for long so the rest of the day will be helping where I can. I’m getting used to washing up again - definitely spoilt with a dishwasher at home! Not sure what’s for tea. Think part of feeling a bit ropey is living mostly on ready meals. Will try to have some fresh fruit & veg. BGT starts tonight & I think my folks like to watch it so that’s good. I’m also going to use this time to delete a load of E Mails off my phone & make sure my items on FB Marketplace are priced the same as they are on Vinted before I renew some of them. To be honest, Marketplace is a bit of a waste of time. And actually I’ll probably end up removing a lot of stuff from Vinted or reduce it right down as it’s not shifting - some items haven’t even had any views. The same things tend to keep getting favourited ( pretty sure that word doesn’t exist outside Vinted!) I’ve sent a few offers when this happens so I’ll trawl through the messages later & send some more. Really need the money this month! Hardly need to mention the weather - soggy yet again here in Cornwall 😥 Have a good Saturday all 🙂🙂

Good morning Lucysmam and others. I've been up for an hour and a half and I've had two coffees, a cuppa and a slice of toast. I meant to get moving earlier but here i am. I need to go to aldi for food then it'll be my usual washings and housework. I'm choked with the cold so I'll take it slowly. Enjoy your weekend

Kim82 · 21/02/2026 09:14

Good morning everyone. Just me up so far so the house is lovely and quiet, all I can hear is the washing machine going in the kitchen. Cats have been fed, dh is at work and dd11 is still asleep.

Todays plan is to scrub the house top to bottom, it’s not been done properly for 2 weeks as i just don’t have the energy last weekend. (It’s tidy but not clean). But for now it can wait, I’m just about to make another cup of tea and sit on the couch enjoying the silence for a bit longer. My Tesco delivery is due after 10am so once that’s here I’ll get up and make a start.

Other than the cleaning I have no real plans today, I need to pop to Aldi and dd18 is coming back from uni at some point today to stay for a couple of days so I’m looking forward to seeing her.

Tea tonight is a choice of burgers/chicken burgers or hotdogs with sweet potato fries and coleslaw then it’ll be an evening in front of the tv and I might share some wine with dd18.

pinkpony88 · 21/02/2026 09:20

Laying in bed with sinusitis 🙁

MessyNDepressy · 21/02/2026 09:21

Good morning! I was up early and went to hot yoga with my friend. I never want to go but am always glad I went afterwards. Sorted DDog and had some boiled eggs and toast. First wash of the day is on. DS14 is still in bed and cats are fast asleep. Will get in the shower in a minute and get sorted for the day. I need to get ex MIL a birthday present and pick up a few bits from our local shopping centre. DS has football training at 12 so DDog and I will go for a walk whilst he’s training. Need to do a food shop too then hopefully chill out with my book for a bit. Have a good day everyone!

willowtree66 · 21/02/2026 09:23

Morning all. I’m still lounging in bed, having been up to feed the dogs and make a cuppa. DH is downstairs making scrambled eggs. Was going to walk up a hill today but it’s raining so will postpone till tomorrow. Will finish off new bedroom shelves, walk dogs, then watch some Winter Olympics.

Flowertopz · 21/02/2026 09:26

I'm on my second coffee and watching some tv . Have got work 2pm - 10pm . Looking forward to my day off tomorrow

Theseventhmagpie · 21/02/2026 09:29

Good morning! Sounds like you’re have a lovely day- enjoy!
I’m getting over the flu and DH has gone to watch the rugby. I plan to do absolutely nothing other than read my book and cuddle the dog.

Babsandherwabs · 21/02/2026 09:35

Day 7 of 8 solo parenting the 3 kids for me and reserves are low! I know lots of people do that full time but I don’t so it’s a lot. Have run out of ideas - we’ve done every activity under the sun yet somehow the kids have also had way way too much screentime. So today we are going to Sainsbury’s so DC1 can get stuff for his food tech homework (he’s only year 6 so not as independent as ‘food tech’ student sounds!). Hopefully park. Maybe pets at home to look at the fish and guinea pigs!

DilemmaDelilah · 21/02/2026 09:35

Good morning @lucysmam and everyone. You were early today! I don't normally look for you until after 9.00, but having read your post I realise why. Have a lovely day/evening/weekend.

I've had problems with my back all week so I'm not planning on doing much today. We planted some seeds yesterday (sitting down in the conservatory, so not contributing to the back pain) and I am now unreasonably excited about seeing them come up. Tomatoes, peppers and Welsh onions to go in the raised planter outside the kitchen door, where I can tend to and pick them. Rhodochiton, blue geraniums, foxgloves and sweet peas for elsewhere in the garden, where I can see them but won't do much with them. (Terraced garden, lots of steps).

We went to a family funeral on Monday. It sounds silly, but it was so nice to see so many of our extended family there, even on such a sad occasion. I have some very elderly relatives and it would be lovely to see them on a happy day, so I have suggested to my sisters that we try and arrange something for the summer. There are a couple of slight problems, in that none of us have a big enough house or garden to host it, and none of us are particularly well off, so we will have to be VERY inventive about where and how. And, of course, the summer is wedding season and everything will be more expensive.... If any of you have a nice flat field, marquee or barn going spare in the area between London, Oxford, Bristol and Exeter some time in the summer, preferably with loos, please let me know! There would probably be about 50 people if everyone comes.

Mr Dilemma will go out to get me some more painkillers and voltarol later, and I'm sure there was something else to add to the list but I can't remember what, at the moment. He will cook our evening meal today, which will be sausage, mash and cabbage, and he will probably make my salad for lunch as standing makes my back worse. I may do some sewing, I still haven't finished putting the sequin trim onto my velvet trousers, as it's not something that is fun to do. Or I might continue with next Christmas's individual decorations for my family, now that I have everything I need to do that. That is much more fun!

Aww, you enjoy your day, you lovely daughter. Wish I was in Cornwall, yes, even in the rain 😂it's gotta be better than dreich central Scotland.
Think i'll drive to the beach today after thinking of Cornwall xx

Zippedydodah · 21/02/2026 09:39

Good morning @lucysmam and followers, a murky, mizzly morning here, dogs are walked and I’m having a coffee and a jam doughnut for breakfast.
I need to spend the rest of the day writing begging letters to local companies, trying to raise funds for the derelict pay area on the estate. It’s shocked me how apathetic the residents are in that an event set up to show the different options led to one person turning up 🤬
I leaflet dropped all 80 houses beforehand, at least 60% have primary school aged children.
As a 73 year old grandmother whose grandchildren live 100+ miles away, I have zero actual interest in the play area, I’m just doing it because I don’t like seeing children having nowhere safe to play 🤷🏼‍♀️

Oh and we need/should paint the pottery we made on Sunday so that will be fun!

Good Morning Mumsnet! What's everyone up to today?
Chatterlyssecret · 21/02/2026 10:10

Sat at the table drinking coffee & reading MN coments.

Cheersminesalargeone · 21/02/2026 10:16

Still in bed, bailed on parkrun as a he from new gym class. Might pop into town otherwise lazy day here.

MoiraRoseVibes · 21/02/2026 10:18

Morning!
I’m on the train into London to meet my oldest friend, we’re having afternoon tea together. It’s a tradition we started in February last year, halfway between our birthdays, and we plan to continue it well into our old-ladydom. Got a quiet train, coffee and a book. DH has dropped DD2 at a party and is hanging with DD1. I’ll be home in time for pizzas and the curling on TV later.

lucysmam · 21/02/2026 10:22

Well, considering I was up later than I planned to be, I have been ready to leave for half an hour! I'll leave in ten and get whichever Sheffield train pulls in first. It doesn't really matter which I get - I'll get a coffee & read my book until the Newcastle train pulls in.

Dd1's not having a good day, so far. She's forgotten her false lashes, and mirror, and her first train was cancelled making her change for the connection we're meeting on rather tight. It's in the same zone at Birmingham New St. though so should be fine. If not...I hope they'll let her on the next one & I'll meet her at Newcastle station! More quiet time for reading and music, for me, if she doesn't make it I guess 🤷‍♀️.
