Good Morning Mumsnet! What's everyone up to today?

I'm just drinking my first cuppa, in my kitchen spot, as usual. The cats have had their breakfast & gone back upstairs, probably to bed since it's very quiet!

I'm off to meet dd1 on the train to Newcastle in a couple of hours. I booked it from Sheffield because it was cheaper from there than here, so have to travel there first!

Before that, I need to shower and pack though! Dd1's already on the way for her first train of the day - Euston to Birmingham. We're off to a gig to see two smaller indie artists we both follow 🎶.

Dd2's not up yet - I'll see if she is when I go up in ten. If not, she wanted me to wake her up before I leave.

She'll spend the day revising again, no doubt. It's pretty much all she's done this week despite many attempts to convince her to do something else.

What about all of you? 🙂

Resting on the lounge settee watching the olympics, which is unusual for me but I’ve got a bit of a cold and so am treating myself to a restful day. Would usually tidy up and hoover and dust. DD is home for the weekend from uni and is having a lie in. We may go for a gentle walk later, or if it pours with rain, go into town and wander about. I’ve got a beef brisket slow cooking for this evening on the hob and there is a lovely ginger / garlic smell that has even penetrated my blocked nose. DD will turn it into a ramen later, which is great comfort food. Expecting a quiet day, may make scones for a teatime treat.

Good morning everyone. I was up early and brought everyone breakfast in bed, tidied downstairs and caught up on some washing and ironing. DH took DS12 to his rugby match and they’re now home and all the boys are playing in DS3s bedroom. I’m lying on the bed with a cuppa having a scroll. Food shop is due to be delivered any minute. This afternoon I am taking DC out to the leisure centre to let DH prepare for an interview he has on Monday. Home later for an Indian, gin and Saturday night tv. Have a great day everyone!

Tangerinesattack · 21/02/2026 11:28

Morning all.

Bit great here but it hasn't started raining (yet!). Just finishing off my second coffee. Made a kind of Mexican breakfast thing with stale tortillas which was much more delicious than it sounds. DS is upstairs, probably cuddling a cat. DH is on call this week and he's out at one just now but fingers crossed, he won't be too busy.

I've got a few bits and pieces to do in the house but nothing too strenuous. Might see if DS fancies a dreich woodland walk but I think that's unlikely. There's some sort of fun day at the local pool which DS might prefer but I definitely wouldn't! We'll see.

Trying to take it easy today as I've felt very unsettled and anxious all week. Just trying to catch up with myself, if I can. Mapo tofu for dinner.

Have a great day,everyone.

Afternoon all I’m very late today as been a busy bee cleaning . No plans today I’m feeling fed up but don’t know why 😆so staying in and having a quiet day . Have a great and safe day all 🫶

I've had a rough week with illness... and working 7:30 to 5:30/6pm every day... Unfortunately, it would have been more hassle to call in ill, so I just went in.
Long story short, cystitis to start the week, closely followed by laryngitis which now has the addition of a viral cough and cold. Yesterday I also had a really tight chest as well.
So it's been rough!
Fortunately, I've got these next 4 days off. So I'm focusing on recovering. No housework, it can all wait. I don't plan to leave the house again until at least Tuesday evening.
Did a big stock-up food shop early this morning, after a very poor night of sleep, due to the coughing. Next plan is some decongestant nasal spray, a warm drink, and then a sofa nap. This evening I'll have a long, hot steamy bath, and probably take a sleeping tablet.

Afternoon @lucysmam and all.

I haven’t been on these threads for a while! Nice to catch up with you all.

DP brought me a coffee in bed before leaving to take DSS to Thai boxing.

I got up and took DS1 and his friend to golf and then popped to Sainsbury’s for supplies as we are all going to Mum and Dad’s later for a bit of a gathering. Bought a lot of beige buffet and snacky food so no one has to do much work.

My sister, bil and little nephew will be over too which is lovely as we haven’t seen them for a month as we went away and then they went away.

Currently snuggled on the sofa with DP waiting for the rugby to start. We’ll watch the first game and then head to the old’s for the second/the football/the gathering.

DSD and DS2 are upstairs playing on the keyboard. DSS is probably gaming!

Afternoon all.
I am sitting in Chambray airport waiting for my 19:40 flight. That seems terrible but as our transfer from our ski resort was stuck in traffic for 3 hours before it got to us, we are just pleased to get here at all!
We have had an epic week skiing but will be glad to get home (about 1am) It's going to be a very long day.

DilemmaDelilah · 21/02/2026 14:26

Update on my day.... after my saying I wasn't going to do much today, I decided to go with Mr Dilemma to pick up painkillers etc and then to do some other things as my back is OKish today - so far!

So we went to the thrift superstore where I picked up some nice bits of fabric to do - as yet unidentified - stuff with, some random bits of trim, buttons etc. a jelly mould and some books for my grandsons.

Then we went to B&Q (other DIY stores are available) for some hooks to string up the solar lights I got him at Christmas to hang at the side of the house. We have a chap who comes to do things in the garden who is going to put them up on Thursday.

Finally, we were going to pick up some washing from my daughter on the way home, but it wasn't ready, so we stopped off at Greggs for some cheap greasy carbs. I should be eating salad for lunch but I was HUNGRY!

@MarmaladeSandwich7 it's difficult being in the middle of the intergenerational sandwich isn't it. However when the generation above you has gone and you're at the top of the family tree it's not that much better. I'm at the stage now where we have adult children and youngish grandchildren but the adult children haven't quite got out of the habit of expecting help from us, rather than providing help to us! We can manage without it at the moment but it would be quite nice to be able to concentrate on what we need - rather than on what they need.

Late to the party today. Happy Saturday to everyone.

Had the usual Saturday swimming palaver. DC1 and DC3 swim at the same (reasonable) time but DC2 swims at competition level so they have a middle of the day swim meet. I spend half of every Saturday at the blooming swimming pool. DC2 is too young to take herself / be left (she's a lot younger than the rest of the team). It's even harder in the nice weather though but hopefully come summer DP won't be working Saturday's so at least one of us can do something with the other kids. Although the thought of any kind summer is just laughable at the moment!!

We got home for a late lunch (I got us all sausage rolls / savoury bakes from the local posh bakery as we were extra late today). We ate there and then swung by the library on the way home to grab some new books. We used to go to the library every week but that's waned so I want to make an effort. Will probably do a packed lunch next time though as a posh bakery isn't cheap.

When the weather improves we can go back to having picnics after swimming!

Home now, beds all stripped and DC1 is remaking them with fresh bed linen. I've just stuck wash #1 on.

No idea re: dinner but I've defrosted a pack of chicken (thought it was breast but it's thigh). Will probably bake them and do some kind of kebabs later with dips and salad.

Film this evening and early night as we are all shattered.

Good day lucysmam and all.

I'm currently enjoying the snooker semi final after a morning of laundry and housework.
I had an unexpected FaceTime with the abroad family as well (I'd thought it was tomorrow)
In between, I'm zizzing up another glass lampshade with some glass paint. It's going well and I think I'm going to do a few other things. I love coloured glass.
DH is cooking something Chinese for himself tonight, as I am out with the coven. I'm taking a cheese tomato and pesto pasta bake to share, and some cava.

Squirrelsandhedgehogs · 21/02/2026 21:02

Been booking things for holiday in Sri Lanka this morning. Then gardening with DH for 3 hours, we finished the second path so two paths are built and I dug up some paving slabs for path 3 which is the old path we are moving slabs closer together. Lots of irises now in flower, silkies came with us, digging their holes to sit in and solar dandelions came on. Did some weeding and cleaning then also cleaned downstairs floor. Then a lovely bath. Had homemade leek and potato soup with bread and butter for lunch and just had spaghetti carbonara with garlic bread for dinner. Now going to have cheesecake with strawberries. Cat is on the bed with me.
