@martha79 your GP sounds very diligent.

@martha79 your GP sounds very diligent.

She is. She also makes me laugh with her weirdly specific instructions on her fit notes - I'd said I had some plannee work trips to London coming up which I didn't think I'd manage, and she's written "no travelling to London" 🤣

Sadly I can't see the cats ever being trained to ride around on the hoover, although I can see the younger one thinking about pouncing on it.

If the kettle's still on, I'll have an earl grey, thanks. I have lots of Waitrose hot cross buns to pass round (both normal and 'exotic' - I got the chocolate and fudge ones this time).

TeaAndStrumpets · 07/03/2026 11:47

@martha79 DH gets through 2 packs a week of the normal ones, they're always on offer! I am GF but I enjoy the smell.

Swanhilde · 07/03/2026 12:24

One cuppa, one mint and one earl grey tea coming up ☕☕☕

And yes please to a normal hot cross bun @martha79 - I love them ❤️

Tiredandwired2 · 07/03/2026 12:37

@martha79 you have just promoted me to get to M&S for some gluten free hot cross buns. Best gluten free ones around. I have seen lots of unique ones in the shops. I forgot what flavour it was though. Bakewell maybe? My memory is shocking

Im off out for a walk with my sister my mum and my DS. DD not able to face it. Her mental health is really taking over her life.

Its a nice walk with the river running alongside it

Tiredandwired2 · 07/03/2026 12:41

@TeaAndStrumpets Im just curious are you gluten free because of ME or is it coeliac?

A couple of women I went to uni with had ME and were gluten free to manage their fatigue. I went gluten free for fatigue reasons years before I had long Covid but it prompted me to consider ME back then. Now with long Covid I wonder if I have always had ME but it was mild and Covid ramped things up.

TodayIsatrickyone · 07/03/2026 12:47

Ooh I’d love a hot cross bun and I’m currently enjoying green tea so that would be greatly appreciated @Swanhilde

Bad night here as my DD wasn’t well in the night and came in to me worried as to what was going on. We were both sat in bed at 4 am with a peppermint tea after finding pain killers for her. She eventually went back to sleep I’m rather weary as I then lay awake worrying about her til the dog woke me up at her usual time. It’s been quite the week with one thing and another! So a quiet sofa day with dog snuggles and my audio book needed. Hopefully DD will feel better once she wakes up.

I got a phone call this morning about the BP 24 hour monitor and am booked in for this week. I think some of you on here had this at some point? Did you manage to sleep?!

Have a peaceful day everyone

TeaAndStrumpets · 07/03/2026 13:00

@Tiredandwired2 no I went off wheat and yeast products long before I had ME in an attempt to cut out allergens. I'd had blood tests that showed me to be allergic to most things! Milk, eggs, you name it. There was a big reaction to cocoa beans which was very upsetting! I used to eat loads of chocolate but I had to give it up .

Edited to add I was managing my ME moderately well until 2020 and suspect I got Covid early on...no tests at that time. I was at rock bottom for months and a couple more doses flattened me for a long time. The PEM is always lurking, sadly!

TeaAndStrumpets · 07/03/2026 13:07

@TodayIsatrickyone hope your DD feels a bit better now.

Tiredandwired2 · 07/03/2026 13:50

@MewithME thanks for answering that. I got really curious. Cocoa beans is upsetting! I have had to give up chocolate since long covid and coffee. It makes me noticeably worse. It's all such a mystery isn't it.

@TodayIsatrickyone I hope you manage to rest today after a tough night. Yes, I had a 24 hour blood pressure monitor and slept pretty well. It woke me up a few times. That being said my sleep is never great but it wasnt noticeably worse

TodayIsatrickyone · 07/03/2026 14:03

Thanks @TeaAndStrumpets the pain has settled a bit for her but I’ll be keeping an eye on her today. She had a similar incident a while back and we got her checked out but she’s been okay since then so not sure what’s going on really.

That’s a lot of allergies to manage, I hope you can find some nice things to enjoy. I was similar re covid, managing ME pretty well then caught covid and was floored for around 6 months. Then just getting back to baseline when I got it for a second time.

I avoid wheat too and found out that a low carb/ keto diet helps my energy levels massively and helped me improve considerably a few years ago. Only the high fat hasnt helped my cholesterol plus its very restrictive long term so it’s not something I can continue right now. It’s probably the one thing that made the biggest difference to me so it’s a shame but needs must.

Thanks @Tiredandwired2 thats reassuring that it wasn’t too bad sleep wise. My sleep is never great either but I was thinking if I’m still quite so rough by weds I may put it off til the following week.

martha79 · 07/03/2026 15:39

Interesting about the gluten intolerances - I eat mostly gluten and dairy free because I feel better for it, have done for a few years, but I can get away with a bit so do make exceptions (hot cross buns, occasional proper pasta, used to sometimes get a 'normal' pizza but last time I did that I felt awful afterwards).

Had a potter in the garden, lots of things are suddenly flowering so that was really nice. My brain is annoying me with anxiety this afternoon - it feels like work is exhausting but at least it's a distraction, whereas quiet weekends are needed but my head then goes into overdrive.

Swanhilde · 07/03/2026 16:05

Had a lovely hour in the garden and sowed red onion sets, peas and broad beans, sweet peas, ox-eye daisies, calendula and two types of sunflower seeds and settled them into the cold frame 🧅🌱🌻🤞

On the kitchen windowsill I've sown two types of tomatoes, pointy red pepper and coriander seeds 🍅🍅🌶️🌱

I'm excited that spring is almost here, even though it's grey and cold today. You have to have hope ... ☀️

After my exertion this morning, I have had an afternoon nap and am now in bed with a cuppa ☕

Swanhilde · 07/03/2026 16:07

And I do like to follow the 'what have you done in the garden today' thread, but they are all way too active for me! 🤣

TodayIsatrickyone · 07/03/2026 16:19

Sounds like you’ve achieved a lot in the garden @Swanhilde Well done and hope you soon have lots of lovely seedlings. 🌱

Afternoon nap here too, fell asleep listening to the audio book so need to work out where I was up to!

Sorry. Just re read this and realised I meant to tag @TeaAndStrumpets

I am at the point where I am wondering if this is brain fog or if I have some undiagnosed ADHD.

Tiredandwired2 · 07/03/2026 16:26

@martha79 I hope the anxiety settles 💐

CoffeeBeansGalore · 07/03/2026 17:23

@Swanhilde Very productive!

Ah no. It is hard keeping up and remembering who said what sometimes. I was thinking that yesterday. Could do with a spreadsheet...

Columns for chronic illnesses, gluten intolerance, allergies, suspected other conditions, owns cats, owns dogs, owns a roomba, makes ceramics, moving house... 😉

I took ds out for lunch which was nice. He's had a disappointment this weekend as his plans for tomorrow were cancelled so I think it was good for him. He's been v sweet today. I was exhausted when we got back so I've just woken from a big nap and I guess I need to think about food again!

I had vague ambitions to change sheets, ring mum, do laundry and dead head the hydrangeas this weekend but don't think I'll manage all that tomorrow.

@TodayIsatrickyone I do that all the time. Been listening to a podcast on and off today. Definitely heard this bit about three times now 😄

@martha79 I want your GP, they sound brilliant.

I had a scan yesterday that I had to drive 30 miles each way for, in a town I've never been to before. I was really proud of myself for managing it. Then at one point I got confused by the sat nav but I didn't panic and just tried again realising my mistake. A year ago my anxiety was through the roof and I struggled driving anywhere so this is epic for me. I think I wore myself out though as I was falling asleep at 6pm on the sofa. Slept well last night and then made my way to PT this morning for 8am. A really good session, after 6 weeks now I'm feeling so much stronger. We then went out this afternoon with the kids on our bikes and hosted some friends for dinner.

Now out of nowhere I feel anxious and on edge for absolutely no reason. It's frustrating as I just can't put my finger on what's causing it I.e the cancer, hormones or my thyroid. I've been finding this week that my appetite has wandered off and getting short spells of nausea, it really is the gift that keeps on giving.

Dozymoo42 · 07/03/2026 19:48

Hi all Smile hoping everyone is having a good weekend so far.
Had a busy week and felt I was handling it very well but kinda hit a wall yesterday and today. Pottered in kitchen today doing a little cleaning and loaded dish washer then listened my audio book and fell asleep.

Orangesandlemons77 · 07/03/2026 20:19

Had MIL round earlier and she stayed for three hours. DH was there too so I should have left them to it. She had me reading her stuff from the paper, looking her up things on the computer and then being annoying going on about weight loss injections causing fatigue and insinuating this was causing my illness.

Have now hidden in the bedroom having a Huel drink for dinner nice (not) in a bit of a crash.

Next time I will leave them to it.

Tiredandwired2 · 08/03/2026 09:15

@olioqueen I hope your feeling a bit better today 💐

@orangeandlemons77 That sounds tough. It's hard when people don't get it and then try to simplify it

Love the talk about falling sleep to audiobooks or podcasts. I do that all of the time.

Today is a day at home but with lots to do and resting in between. Main things are dog washing and loading the car for a small tip run. Although I think I am being optimistic and may pay someone to do the rubbish removal.

I have been decluttering slowly for 3 years and tried to be conscientious of how I get rid of items. Recycle, give away on OLIO app or Facebook group but I've had enough now and feel like just throwing it all in the bin

martha79 · 08/03/2026 09:42

Morning all. Well done on the driving @Oioiqueen. Hope you can have a rest today @Orangesandlemons77

@Tiredandwired2 decluttering is so exhausting - and I feel guilty about putting things in the bin too, but sometimes it's even more exhausting to sort out donating and recycling etc.

Weirdly, social media memories have reminded me that a year ago today, I was feeling rough after a busy week at work and a couple of long runs at the weekend (was marathon training, it never happened) - I then came down with a horrible lurgy. Tested negative for COVID, but several of my colleagues had the same symptoms and positive tests. I don't think I've been quite right since, even if the more severe stuff is more recent.

It's also COVID memorial day, and I yet again find myself wondering how we're all meant to be OK after several years of so much uncertainty and worry and grief, and then being flung back into 'normal' life.
