Bastarding NEFF slide and hide oven door

SlightlyJaded · 10/02/2026 14:55

My old oven door was easy to clean. Lift the plastic casing, separate the glass panels, wipe and click shut

NEFF slide and hide is a fucking pig of a job involving removing the entire door, and before even managing to get that far, I have jammed the door so it won't close and won't come off.

I've watched forty-million YouTube tutorials and the problem is that I cannot see a hinge lock that I can just 'flick up' with a screwdriver, so I have been scrabbling about blind and think I have managed to unlock one but not the other. No idea which side and no idea how i've done it or how to click back or open the other side. The turny bolts that you then turn with a penny I can see, and I could do, but I can't get to that stage because the door is now jammed half open.

Does anyone have this door that can offer any suggestions? I've tried shining a torch through the side gap but I can't see anything that looks like the shiny, perfect cog on all the lying bastard YouTube videos.

I’ve that oven (well 2) but I just use an oven cleaning man who comes and does it, way too scary for me to do! Sorry!! But you could see if someone will do that for you?

DancingFerret · 10/02/2026 15:06

Hell... Our kitchen is being revamped and a shiny new Neff oven with a slide and hide door was fitted just last week.

Watching in the hope of suggestions from other users.

balzamico · 10/02/2026 15:08

I feel your pain I spent two hours trying to get my door back on last week and then yesterday something dripped down the stupid fucking vent at the top and ran down between the panes of glass, also I wrecked the seal around the door trying to put it back on wrong and had to replace it at £28. I also watched a million youtubes - there’s a lot as they’re so shit. I also rang Neff who told me there are engineers videos on youtube which I couldn’t find. The hinge lock you can’t find - is that step one? its a little plastic thing that you push upwards with a screwdriver- you need to shine a torch on it. My issue was that - wait for it - my spigot had come off the roller which meant that the roller wheels were not aligned in a way that I could get the door back on. I honestly think I’ll probably pay for a clean next time in the hope that they can get the fucking thing on and off - the cleaning itself took just a few minutes but I have no desire to repeat the experience. I got the door off easily enough but then couldn’t get the last pane out to clean between it and the door where the dribbles were and as I said my biggest problem was getting the door back on. Im sorry to be negative and put you off, I really did wish I’d never started on it!! This is the video that helped me in the end though I appreciate my problem may be different to yours

I've got one and the diagram doesn't really look like what I can see thru the door edge gap. I'm sorry I'm away from home at present so can't talk you thru it.
Certainly I can't just "flick up" that cog as instructions describe. I use the narrow edge of a small screwdriver to push it up
This video gives you a good view of the hidden cog wheel that you can barely see

Never taken ours off to clean. Definitely not going to now I’ve read this thread.

Barrellturn · 10/02/2026 15:14

I think the key is not to clean the oven.

I wish I'd never got the Neff because of the slide and hide. I just can't master the destructions. I'll have to get a competent oven cleaner in. I've been cleaning it with a long thin microfiber cloth thing on a stick in between the glass.

Have never taken ours off either. The self-cleaning oven function works well, but the glass still needs removing to clean.

We've had it six years and I haven't been brave enough. Looks like I need to find an oven cleaning company that will do it for me.

SlightlyJaded · 10/02/2026 17:16

I haven't been back because i have been fighting with the oven. I now want to stab myself in the eye because having finally got the door off and realised I have to dismantle all the panes of glass, I have just noticed this.... The fucking whole bar that holds the hinges (the ones you just 'flick open'Hmm) come off whatever it is supposed to be on.. a track? Who knows? It's now a two inch gap of pitch black with the whole bar missing. Shittest SHITTEST design ever.

Never again.

But thank you for all the help and tutorials. Sorry - that was rude of me.

Yes the bar rod thingy fell out when I was trying to clean between the glass without taking it apart. Luckily my partner managed to get it back in somehow without dismantling. I hate these blooming ovens grrrr, wish it was screws on the glass. Neff charge a lot to come out and clean these damn things.

SlightlyJaded · 10/02/2026 17:46

Do you know how your partner got the guide rod back in @CherryRipe1 ? I don't even understand where it goes...

My old AEG just had a plastic cover that you lifted off and the glass panels separated like a concertina - so easy.

Handy tip - hang a clean tea towel over the handle when people are coming round, thus eliminating the need for faffy cleaning!

You’re welcome!

No, sorry. He just fiddled around with it and managed to get it in. I was about to self combust 🔥 and didn't watch what he did. I think looking at that Oven Cleaning academy video, (which is very good) it slots into a circular recess hole thing at each end. Hope you manage to get it back!

SlightlyJaded · 10/02/2026 19:03

WOOOOHOOOOO Never thought I could give this many fucks about an oven. That was a ridiculous task that took all day and I will never do it again. But for today, I will enjoy my clean(ish) oven and marvel at the collective wisdom and solidarity of Mumsnet - I literally used a combo of every single video to get me through.

I broke our Neff hide and slide door trying to get it back in after cleaning it once. Like you, I’d watched all the tutorials and after hours of fiddling about, managed to get it off take it apart etc but then trying to fit it back in was the final straw.

Shattered into hundreds of tiny cubes of glass and I sat on floor and cried! Then I had to ring neff who came and replaced the door a few days later - even the guy had a job getting it back in said it had been fitted very tightly. I haven’t taken the doors off ever since! Definitely get a professional in. I wouldn’t get these ovens again as it’s a real flaw.

CherryRipe1 · 11/02/2026 19:33

@SlightlyJaded Yippeeeee!👍

I’m impressed. Dh won’t let me try to clean between the glass in case it breaks!

minnowonthesay · 11/02/2026 19:49

I have to tell you this to highlight how ridiculous those doors are. On Boxing Day, I put a ham in my daughters Neff hide & slide oven, when I went to baste it, I pulled the door down, not remembering how it goes under itself (I have a Rangemaster at home) the whole door actually came off in my hand, luckily I kept hold of it, otherwise they’d have had a smashed door, smashed ceramic floor tiles and I’d have had a smashed foot! When you want it to come off it won’t, then when you don’t want it to fly off, it does, crazy!

SlightlyJaded · 11/02/2026 22:14

They really are one of the most badly designed 'clever designs' I've encountered.

The 'hide' function is a great idea in principal, and I like that I can get so close to the oven, but the payoff is just not worth it. There was absolutely no reason why they couldn't make the glass easy to access and opening tonight I was conscious that having seen the roller come off, it all felt very precarious.

But... BUT... I did it!

Strewth! I'm dreading the first time I need to clean that door.

Aside from that, I've yet to use the oven (work still going on in the house) and I'd be interested to know if you're otherwise happy with its performance.
