Bastarding NEFF slide and hide oven door

SlightlyJaded · 10/02/2026 14:55

My old oven door was easy to clean. Lift the plastic casing, separate the glass panels, wipe and click shut

NEFF slide and hide is a fucking pig of a job involving removing the entire door, and before even managing to get that far, I have jammed the door so it won't close and won't come off.

I've watched forty-million YouTube tutorials and the problem is that I cannot see a hinge lock that I can just 'flick up' with a screwdriver, so I have been scrabbling about blind and think I have managed to unlock one but not the other. No idea which side and no idea how i've done it or how to click back or open the other side. The turny bolts that you then turn with a penny I can see, and I could do, but I can't get to that stage because the door is now jammed half open.

Does anyone have this door that can offer any suggestions? I've tried shining a torch through the side gap but I can't see anything that looks like the shiny, perfect cog on all the lying bastard YouTube videos.

Oven functionality is great. Lots of options for cooking styles, the usual timers and a self clean function. There are apparently two levels of self-clear (didn't know at the time) and mine is the less powerful one so it's ok but not a complete solution.

But in terms of cooking, straightforward, even cooking. The slide and hide bit is genuinely great when you want to baste/check/take in/take out but heaven help you if you get a drip between the glass panels of the door.

Well done SlightlyJaded!

Buying that bastard oven was the biggest mistake EVER. It works really well when it works, but it's utterly impossible to clean. We have managed to break the mechanism twice now in attempting to take it off the hinge, and each time it's cost hundreds of euros to fix by a Neff engineer. We live in a country that doesn't have a tradition of professionals coming round to clean ovens (if you want your oven cleaned you just get a normal cleaning company to do it, but they won't take the door off), so I have resolved to never clean the damn thing again. One thing I did find out while reearching the whole sorry mess: there seem to be two versions of the hinge - the old one is literally impossible to get off properly, the more recent one is possible but difficult. Ours is, of course, the old one.

DancingFerret · 12/02/2026 12:12

Out of interest, which Neff slide and hide oven model do others have? Ours is an N70.

SlightlyJaded · 12/02/2026 14:15

Ours is one of the most basic ones. N50 I think

I have had this oven for 7+ years and it has never occurred to me to clean the glass. I just use the self cleaning feature from time to time.

I love the door.

I can’t get the lightbulb cover off to change the bulb though, which is a pain.

rainbowstardrops · 12/02/2026 14:28

We’ve had our new kitchen for about 11 months with a Neff slide and glide and I really want to clean the glass but after looking at the Neff video, we’ve just put it off! Why have they made it so bloody difficult?!
Well done though @SlightlyJaded, you’ve achieved more than I have!

Popcorn76 · 12/02/2026 14:32

I hate ours. Why did the design it so that there is a gap for crumbs to get stuck between the panes of glass. Even the oven cleaning company refused to take it apart, they said they have had too many issues putting them back together again and were not willing to risk it.

MerelyPlaying · 12/02/2026 14:33

In four years, I have never attempted to clean the door – I use the self-clean for the inside. After reading the above, I’m never going to attempt it! As an oven, I love it - it was the one thing I specified for my kitchen, didn’t care about anything else much.

But there’s no way I’m going to risk taking the door off now. I love the tip about hanging a tea towel over it!

alphabill · 12/02/2026 14:42

I have this oven and couldn't get the door shut after attempting to clean it. It was 2 months old, 4 days before Christmas! I sat and cried on the floor, fortunately Neff came out and helped. I was wondering about trying to steam clean through the vents in the door to remove the drips. Has anyone tried this?

Breadcat24 · 12/02/2026 14:45

Would never have one as while they look cute on bake off how do you clean the hole they slide into. Our local oven clean service refuses to clean them . Sorry. I would rip it out and put something cleanable in

minipie · 12/02/2026 14:48

I’ve done the door dismantling and cleaning thing twice <smug>

It is an absolute bastard of a job.

I've only dared once. It's top of my list of jobs you wish you'd never started.

wonkylegs · 12/02/2026 15:44

I’ve had mine for 12years and just never cleaned between the glass, I do the rest of the oven but never bothered with that bit because who needs that amount of stress - seems like that was the right attitude to take

Yes I have but error codes and much beeping ensued so I turned it off at the mains & it was eventually ok. It does help but the tools won't reach very far into the vents underneath. I used a long microfiber cloth (gap cleaners)& rubber bands on a yardstick, baking soda, vinegar and hot water to shift the gunk. It wasnt perfect but much improved. The bar/rod at the bottom fell out but luckily my partner managed to fiddle it back somehow.

Bubble678910 · 12/02/2026 15:48

A similar thing happened with our old oven - complete nightmare! We have a NEFF now too, but we have a man who comes once a year to clean it as you've got to be quite careful that the glass doesn't shatter depending on what you're using to clean.

Instead of Youtube have you tried ChatGPT etc? We've found it much easier to find the exact manual on there and then say "talk me how to do this easily" and it will answer.

I managed this! Took many goes but wearing rubber gloves helped in the end, to get a better grip. I’d forgotten what a bastard that was.

GellerYeller · 12/02/2026 20:10

I’m a towel hanger too. So scared to dismantle it. I’m also scared of the pyrolitic function melting the surround… But I love the slide and hide door. If only they did them on dishwashers…

minipie · 12/02/2026 20:17

@GellerYeller the pyrolitic clean did nothing to the surround but when I spilled a hot casserole it did melt the fabric seal thingy. As well as making a massive mess of the door 😩

likelysuspect · 12/02/2026 20:25

I dont even have this oven but have watched the videos!!!

Dont clean ovens. Why do people never learn!!!

Oh no, that isn’t good. Was it replaced? 😢💐

minipie · 12/02/2026 21:25

Erm nope I’m still using it just with a melted hole in the fabric! I suppose I could get it replaced..:

This just made me actually lol. Watching a painful 'how to dismantle the oven door' video for an oven you don't even own is amazing commitment to the thread. 👏👏👏

You can get a tool to help with this off Amazon
It’s still difficult but now manageable with less swearing
Google Neff lightbulb cover removal tool
