These threads fascinate me because no one ever says why they want to live in these places.
For me personally my priorities are an accessible decent supermarket and a good public transport service.
My "nice to haves" would include a cinema, swimming pool, library and pretty park - but if they don't exist in the town but there's a good public transport system that can get me easily to them elsewhere then that's fine.
So really I could live in any city, large or medium size town.

Brecon Beacons.

Oh I'm going there for the first time this summer, what's the portobello beach like ?

It’s nice. It’s either very quiet or rammed. Hopefully you get a day in-between 🙂

Spain.

Where in the UK is this Spain you speak of…

Spain.

Ok.🤔
Have Googled this one and there is nowhere in the UK called Spain so you obviously mean Spanish City, Whitley Bay.
Appears to be a venue so you can't actually live there.

Of course, it is completely possible that the poster didn't read the original question.🙄

My why is because I am happier here than I have been anywhere. Everything I could want to have accessible is here, and I'm close enough to an international airport to make visiting other places accessible and affordable - unlike where I lived before I moved here.

That sounds good.
I am curious when people just say "Brighton" or "Barnsley" with no explanation.....I want to know why 😁

He decided he didn't like where he lived so moved.

apparently there was a break in in a jeweller very close to him and it gave him the willies so he just upped and left. Didn’t feel safe apparently.

its really good to hear this about Barnsley - proves with a bit of imagination and investment turnarounds can be made -

Barnsley really is bucking the trend. The Glassworks in the centre puts on loads of events through the year - food festivals, music, stuff for kids etc. Also, 80% of Barnsley MBC is rural.

No, I don't work for the tourist office 😁

Alpacajigsaw · 09/02/2026 22:47

London, but only if I was rich!

Fun fact. The Spanish City was originally a funfair. I used to go there as a child/teenager. It was mentioned in the Dire Straits song 'Tunnel of Love'.
It was redeveloped a number of years ago. The funfair & arcades are now gone. What's left is a venue which has a cafe/restaurant

I’ve got a friend who lives there and he says it’s vastly improved too - I’m originally from Mansfield and went back 16 months ago for first time in 20 years- now that is a place that needs some imagination!! Blooming horrendous and sad to see

Hardly the first crime in that area.
Oh well....bye Tom 👋

Wedmore in Somerset. It’s so beautiful, bears the lovely wells and the beach too. Just gorgeous x

Whitley Bay became quite run down, but has been quite gentrified in recent years. DD lived there for a year and I loved going to visit her.

Park View has lots of nice shops to mooch around.

HangryBrickShark · 10/02/2026 07:26

Either Freshwater or the New Forest.

I love London for a day or two, but I couldn't live there

Are you thinking of the centre though?

My bit of West London has parks, rivers, an excellent independent coffee shop, a gym & a supermarket within walking distance, public transport that means I can get in & out of Central London easily at any time of the day or night, friendly neighbours & I often bump into friends when I’m out.

If I want to go on a day-long walk over hills & through fields, seeing flowers & animals, birds & butterflies, it’s perfectly doable.

I’m not sure I’d want to live anywhere else.

Norfolk, where my family come from and where my parents are buried. It's my happy place I escape to when life gets too much!

NotableI · 10/02/2026 08:22

Hampstead, London

DancingLions · 10/02/2026 08:38

London, where I live and will never leave!
I grew up in the West Country (very remote). Hated it, left as soon as I could and lived in a few different parts of the country.
Came to London 20 years ago. Everything I need is here. Plenty of nice green spaces when I want that but so much convenience too. Convenient for travelling abroad. Loads of entertainment. People are friendly but your business is your own! I hated living in places where everyone knew everything about you. In terms of my work, the best opportunities are here. I live in a decent area, close to the tube. I have no complaints.

Clawdy · 10/02/2026 08:38

Cockermouth in the Lakes. Beautiful town.

Playingvideogames · 10/02/2026 08:53

Bakewell. I just love it, love the Peak District and get the best vibes there.

Chelsea. I’d love to live in a three bed terrace with small garden on a garden square just off the Kings Rd. Even better if it had an amazing friendly café on the corner. My dream.

I can understand the appeal @mondaytosunday
They are so gorgeous.

I live in Christchurch and it really is lovely. Close enough to all the beaches, a bus rude to Studland or Swanage. Bournemouth beach is lovely but Christchurch is just far enough away from the main town. Id not live anywhere else.

You lucky thing. One day I hope to put our caravan on a seasonal pitch down there so we can go visit all the time.

Rabbithill · 10/02/2026 09:32

Realistically for now, I'd probably stay put in the city I live in as it's so convenient and we have various ties here. But when we retire, possibly Bath, as I grew up there. But it'd be in a nicer area in a bigger house with a view across the valley.
Or somewhere closer to stunning scenery but still with lots of amenities, like Totnes, Dartmouth or Dorchester.
